Hewlett Packard 8440P Review

We are suckers for a nice-looking business notebook, which is the kind of sad confession you would expect from people who spend their lives playing tech (We do it just for the check payment, honest). But who can resist the 14IN HP EliteBook 8440p (WL653PA)? It is a beautifully built, feature-packed business notebook, and we were very happy to spend some quality one-on-one time with her.

Hewlett Packard 8440P Review

It’s easy to get into the details of the technical specifications of a notebook, but a large part of buying a great laptop for you is one with the right design gets. And the HP EliteBook 8440p is a ripper. It compares favorably with top-end business laptop from Dell and Lenovo. The magnesium alloy body feels incredibly sturdy and looks beautiful. The LED-backlit display is held in place by metal hinges and locks the notebook has a locking system. Embedded in the ring are a webcam and a keyboard light.

The display has a nice matte finish (great if you work under fluorescent lighting). It has no exceptional viewing angles, but images look crisp and clear.

The EliteBook 8440p weighs just over 2kg, so it’s not an ultraportable notebook. But given HP Data Sheet is designed to authenticate “the tough military standards (MIL-STD-810G) for vibration, dust, humidity, altitude to meet, and high temperatures, we are not surprised, and the weight feels reassuring (we the love of her balance). The keyboard is exceptional, with full-sized keys that are comfortable to type. We wish the keys had one more travel, but this is a quibble.

Above the keyboard are touch-sensitive buttons for the touchpad and wireless, the volume off and start a web browser. There is also a button that displays a menu of HP software (such as HP 3D Drive Guard to protect your data if you knock the laptop) to install. We could not find any way to this key to something useful, which, frankly, is bizarre to do remap. We loved the location of the fingerprint reader – on the palm of the extreme right – because out of the way and you’re unlikely to hit it with your thumb when using the touchpad.

Hewlett Packard 8440P Review

The touchpad is a little tight, but has a nice smooth texture. If you’re like us you prefer the joystick-like pointing device located in the middle of the keyboard. It’s great when you’re writing, but public transport, and it has two special buttons. (Some people might prefer the rounded end of a trackpoint device on a Lenovo ThinkPad rather than the spherical end to the EliteBook, but we did not mind.)

The notebook is not only the beauty chassis deep: inside there are parts that need to take any road warrior happy as long as they are not involved in specialized tasks (such as 3D design) or playing high end games (stick to Solitaire) . The notebook features an Intel Core i5 540m CPU which runs at 2.53 GHz and 2 GB of DDR3 RAM. The CPU has two physical cores, so you will have four virtual cores to play with in total with Hyper-Threading. Turbo Boost can jack the clock speed automatically to 3.066GHz. Frankly, most office productivity tasks that require this – the multiple cores are much more important because they make multitasking a breeze.

If we ran WorldBench 6 test suite, the notebook scored an excellent 107. The MP3 encoding and the Blender 3D rendering test lasted 58 seconds and 54 seconds respectively to complete, which is not particularly impressive – these results are slightly slower than the Medion Akoya MD98330 budget, a i3 Core notebook for home users. 3DMark06 returned a low score of 1770, this is a surprising result of the integrated Intel graphics card (although still lower than many non-business notebooks have integrated graphics). Modern games are virtually excluded – hardly a surprise for a notebook that SRS BSN means – but you’ll be able to high-definition video viewing.

We tested the battery by turning off energy-saving, turning the screen brightness and Wi-Fi option, then looping a SD video. The notebook lasted 2 hours 26min. It’s not a bad result for a laptop of this size packaging decent components under the hood. 15in Probook HP 6540b only took 2 hours 13min, while Dell’s smaller, 13in Vostro V13 lasted 2 hours 1min.

Hewlett Packard 8440P Review

Around the edges you almost everything you want from a business notebook: four USB 2.0 ports (one double and one eSATA port), an ExpressCard/54 slot, FireWire, a dial-up modem, microphone and headphone jacks, a SD card slot, Gigabit Ethernet (there is also 802.11n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth), a smart card reader – deep breath – a Kensington lock, a DVD burner and a VGA (D-sub) terminal and display port for connecting of an external monitor.

Fri admit that we fall in love with this notebook, we heard strains of Barry White play every time we came near. But we think you’ll probably love: the beautiful appearance while maintaining a functional design, and offers almost everything you could want from a business notebook. Check it out in store and prepare to be beaten. You cap of nearly $ 2,700, but for a business notebook of this caliber we think is a fairly reasonable proposition.

HP EliteBook 8440w Laptop Review

Large companies have the budgets to the bleeding-edge, no-compromise business notebooks, which is why companies like HP to build the best buy. The HP EliteBook 8440w is a force to be reckoned with in business, with components that include Intel Core i7 processor (dual core), NVIDIA workstation graphics processor and fast hard drives. There is not an external peripherals or accessories that can not connect to this laptop, it comes loaded with current and legacy features. On the other side of the coin, I think the Lenovo ThinkPad T410 to make keyboards more and navigation instruments, although their user experience is a matter of personal taste.

HP EliteBook 8440w Laptop Review

Design

Compaq designs are indicative of the modern era, such as metals are synonymous with trendsetters such as Apple and Asus. The 8440w uses the brushed metal cover, which not only sleek and stylish, but it’s also tough as nails. That’s because HP EliteBooks undergo a series of modified military tests, including heat, cold, dust and moisture. The 8440w is definitely a solid machine than the Lenovo T410 and Toshiba Tecra R10-S4401, and looks better, too. At 5.6 pounds, it is marginally heavier than the 5.5-pound Lenovo T410-both of which came with huge 9-cell batteries. Although portable, they are not the kind of business laptops that you want to travel a lot with, lighter 14-inch systems like the Lenovo ThinkPad T400 (3.9 lbs) and the Toshiba R10-S4401 (4.2 lbs) not considering almost as much.

The houses a 8440w 14-inch widescreen display is large enough for the system to make your primary PC. It is the same size as the one found on the Lenovo T410, with the exception of 1600-by-900 resolution is slightly higher. The T410 uses a 1440 by 900 resolution, which still falls into the WSXGA + spectrum. Visually, there are very few differences between the two screens.

The user experience is satisfactory. The 8440w has a full-size keyboard, but the keys are a bit mushy when pressed. The typing experience is not as responsive as the one on the Lenovo T410, which, in my opinion, has few peers, but PCs like the Dell Latitude E4300 come close. The 8440w comes with two pointing devices, a pointing stick and a touchpad, although the stylus (eraser mouse) was stiff at times and the touchpad seemed small after using the one on the Lenovo T410. The rubbery buttons are soft and non-resistant.

HP EliteBook 8440w Laptop Review

Features

The words “fully loaded” summarizes the 8440w’s feature set, directly comparable to the T410. It has four USB ports, FireWire, a ExressCard slot, a media card reader, display port, modem jacks and VGA out. Both business laptops have an internal DVD burner drives with an option to Blu-ray, and they both use 7200rpm drives with 320GB capacity. But the model we reviews has a 500GB HDD. The 8440w is loaded into the wireless section and, using the latest Intel 802.11n Wi-Fi cards, Bluetooth and 3G modems (Gobi 2000). A 3-year warranty is another important function that should not be forgotten, as the T410 starts with a 1-year warranty.

HP sells this “pre-configured” systems, which leaves very little room for change. For example, if you downgrade to a slower processor or upgrade to a SSD drive, the starting price will change dramatically to more than $ 2,500 instead of $ 2,000. The Lenovo T410, on the other hand, is highly configurable.

Performance

Performance seekers will find this laptop configuration impeccable. It runs on a 2.67GHz Intel Core i7 640M processor and 4GB DDR3 memory, which is faster than 2.53 GHz Intel Core Lenovo T410 i5 CPU 540m. Lenovo, on the other hand, lets you use the same Core i7 upgrade option for $ 120 more. Because of the faster processor, 8440w took top honors in the Cinebench R10 (9254). In PCMark Vantage, but it scored 6690, which surpassed Lenovo T410 with a score of 7315 in overall performance. In video encoding tests, the 8440w hit the Lenovo T410 with 4 seconds. The Dell E4300 Core i7 will receive treatment in a few weeks, so I will hold off to compare with the other two.

HP EliteBook 8440w Laptop Review

Since the Lenovo T410 and 8440w workstation use similar video chipsets Nvidia Quadro their 3DMark06 scores are almost identical (4182 vs. 4178, respectively). The application in a graphical workstation, is not in 3D gaming, but rather in ISV (Independent Software Vendor) certification that the stability of commercial CAD applications protection. This configuration comes with a 93WH (9-cell) battery and slightly smaller would fall at the mercy of the power-draining Core i7 processor. The 8440w scored 7:34 minutes in MobileMark 2007 tests, which beat the Lenovo T410 by at least two hours (5:34). HP sells a 55Wh (6-cell) battery, which is available in an alternative “pre-configured” model. I have tested the 8440w and only managed a score of 3 hours and 46 minutes.

About $ 200 separates the HP EliteBook 8440w and Lenovo ThinkPad T410. Faster Intel Core i7 processor and a 3-year warranty justifies the higher price on the HP, the corporate laptops are champions when it comes to performance and feature sets loaded. The 8440w, on the one hand, got more battery life from the 9-cell battery and is a more durable laptop-based building materials. The Lenovo T410, however, has a better user experience and is more flexible with configuration options. You can not go wrong with this machine, but the Lenovo T410 still has the competitive edge.

HP 17-1181NR Envy Review

Desktop replacements are usually large, larger, and largest, with power and performance of their driving factors. Rarely have we seen a laptop with a 17-inch screen that weighs as little as 7.5 pounds, the HP Envy 17 until the threshold of our labs. The sleek, like an Apple MacBook Pro, powerful as an Alienware, and relatively affordable as the Asus Republic of Gamers G73JH. This laptop does not break any price barriers on either the high end or low end. But considering everything you get, this is our new favorite choice for power users who refuse to sacrifice in the name of the prize or to make portability.

The Envy 1917 is slim enough that you could not think at first that he qualifies as a true desktop replacement machine. At just 1.25 inches thick and 7.5 pounds, this is an impressively sleek machine. The laser-etched lid and the chassis, both resisting aluminum bronze, shouting sustainability, fingerprints, and hint at the high-end components lurking underneath. The keyboard deck is clear aluminum, dark bronze, following the motive. As with the cover, it has a dotted texture that comes from an etching method we have seen only Envy notebooks. The left wrist rest gets very warm, however, even mild use. (On the right was cool.)

HP 17-1181NR Envy Review

The backlit keyboard and Chiclet dedicated number pad are very comfortable and pleasant to type on. The well spread, flat-top keys to someone with slim-to-medium-sized fingers. (The keys might be a bit small for people with larger fingers, though.) The keys are hard plastic with a good vertical travel for a notebook and a nice tactile response. Also, we want the media playback and display functions are swapped with the Function features. (Not at all confusing, we know!) Translation: What this means is that instead of hitting a key combination of Fn + F7 to decrease the volume, so you just hit F7 to decrease the volume. If you ever need a system like the F7 key to activate, you then would use the key combo.

The huge touchpad (it measures nearly 5 inches diagonal) offered unparalleled precision with the cursor. The pad has an integrated mouse buttons, so the pad is actually a large button with lines painted on the button near it. We liked the large size and smooth feel, which does not produce any drag.

The pad can also perform certain tasks, multi-finger, for example using two fingers to scroll. This worked well, but not great. The path does not inertia scrolling, like what Apple provides on its MacBooks and other products. (Inertia scrolling is when you quickly flick your fingers and watch the screen scroll quickly, depending on how fast you cut it.) We also had some trouble getting our two fingers to register on a web page so the page does not scroll when it should have. You can rotate pictures with two fingers, pinch-zoom, and this worked well in our tests. The Synaptics touchpad applet that HP bundled with the system indicated that we could three finger movements as possible, we tried but did not work. Generally we would classify the multi-touch experience as picky.

The full-HD screen was great for playing Blu-ray movies, and the viewing angles were simply the best we’ve ever seen in a laptop. In fact, we could see the whole picture no matter how far from the center of the viewing angle. If the front of the screen at all, you can see what’s playing on, without loss of color. Glare was very noticeable in this glossy screen, but that’s to be expected from a media-centric machine.

HP 17-1181NR Envy Review

Listening to the media was a good experience in the Envy 17, thanks to the audio Beats (Beats high-end audio software used by the artist Dr. Dre, exclusive to HP notebooks.) Volume was very strong, and the speakers were much stronger than what you usually get from a notebook. As we heard more bass than usual from the laptop speakers, this system was a bit lacking in that department.

The port selection on the Envy 17 is generous. Along the left, you’ll find a VGA port, a mini DisplayPort, and an HDMI port, all for exporting to an external monitor. You can do all three at once, thanks Eyefinity ATI’s multi-display technology, which allows you to connect to three external displays, which is made possible by the onboard ATI Radeon graphics chipset. Also on the left is an eSATA / USB combo port for connecting an external hard drive, a USB 3.0 port and a headphone / microphone combo jack (for a headset when making VoIP calls), and a more standard headphone jack. That’s plenty of connectivity per se, but on the right, you’ll find two USB 2.0 ports, a five-format memory card slot, a power jack and a Kensington cable lock slot. We were also pleased to have a slot-loading Blu-ray drive, which is rarely seen in notebooks. (Almost all Blu-ray drives in laptops we’ve seen so far clunkier tray-loading drives.)

Another nice extra is the HP TrueVision HD Webcam, which produced excellent images for video chats. On our side, skin tones the camera looked a little red, but the person on the other hand, said the picture is crystal clear (we were connected via Ethernet), and she did not think we looked at all red. The camera captures images at a maximum resolution of 640×480, which seemed low for an HD webcam. The images looked pretty good, though, even when blown up to full screen size. We did notice some noise and motion blur in the video recording, but not enough to really complain about. It handled low light surprisingly well, we could see fine with just the subject face the light of the screen.

Wireless connectivity options are a bit limited on this laptop with only Bluetooth and 802.11n radios included, but given the size of this notebook, support for mobile WiMAX broadband or probably would have been overkill. We do not expect a lot of 17-inch notebooks see daily commutes.

HP 17-1181NR Envy Review

Now the fun part: the performance. The Envy 17-supported by its quad-core 1.6-GHz Intel Core i7 CPU Q72 and 6GB of DDR3 memory performed very well on our tests. On our PCMark Vantage test, a measure of the overall system performance, the Envy 17 fluctuated around the average scores we have seen from the desktop replacement laptops, with scores of 5.849 on the 32-bit version of the test (the average is 6289) and 6324 on the 64-bit Edition (6288 average). Perhaps more importantly, it helps beat two of its closest competitors, both priced just $ 100 less, the Acer Aspire 8943G (scored 5969 on the 64-bit version of the test), and the Asus Republic of Gamers G73JH (which yielded a much lower 3936 on the same test).

Specific testing the CPU, we run different encoding tests, which include the transcoding of a standard video clip in Windows Media Encoder (WME) and converting 11 standard MP3 files to AAC format in iTunes. The system did well on both tests. It took 3 minutes and 10 seconds to complete the test task in WME, the two competitors finished in 4:00 (for the Acer Aspire 8943G) and 3:53 (for Asus). In the iTunes test, the times were a little closer, with the Envy 17 completing the process in 2:59. Here, the Asus system beat it by 5 seconds (which is essentially a tie) and the Acer Aspire brought up the rear at 3:50.

A final test we run is CPU Cinebench 10, all of the cores (in this case, four) of the processor load. Again, the Envy 17 beat the similarly priced competition, with scores of 8425 (on the 32-bit version of the test) and 10,250 (for 64-bit). The Asus Republic of Gamers system came in second in the 32-bit test (8134), but the Acer is second on the 64-bit test (9709). Generally these are very good scores. They indicate that you are able to handle large images, multi-tasking and doing a lot of productivity tasks without spending much time at all watching the little blue circle to do somersaults.

Moving from the CPU to the graphics chip: We run a series of graphical tests. Envy the 17′s powerful ATI Mobility Radeon 5850 chipset, with its own dedicated gigabyte of memory, thankfully blasted through our 3DMark06 test, DirectX 9 graphics performance measures. Here, the Envy 17 struggled to keep pace with the Asus Republic of Gamers system, but easily lost the Acer, providing scores of 11,986 to 1,024 x 768 resolution and 9368 at its native resolution of 1,920 x1, 080. (The Asus ROG edges of the Envy 17 with scores of 12,526 and 10,927 in the same resolution, the Acer never cracked 10,000.)

To get a better idea of how the Envy 17 would perform in a real-world gaming scenario, we put it through its paces with one of our standard test games, Company of Heroes. All we saw frame rates were very playable. In our DirectX 9 Company of Heroes run of the test, 140 frames per second (fps) managed at its native resolution. DirectX 10, the score dropped to 50.4fps, which is still excellent. That’s on a level with the Asus Republic of Gamers machine within 1fps was for both tests. The Acer Aspire did not come close to these scores. The numbers of Envy just the $ 4,000 configuration we tested Malibal Satori, who only managed 91.3fps and 31fps at these settings.

Typically for a large, powerful notebook, the Envy does not offer much in the way of battery life. It turned out unceremoniously when playing our test DVD (The Matrix) 1 hour and 42 minutes into the movie. That means you, Äôll want to travel with the power brick, which unfortunately is almost 6 inches long and about 3 inches wide. Remember that all it gets warm when the notebook is in heavy use.

HP loads the system with many useful software goodies and not much bloatware. Take the Synaptics touchpad applet, for example, lets you tweak various presets for the touchpad. There also HP aos, aos Beats control, and full versions of Corel PaintShop Pro and VideoStudio Pro X3 X3 for image and video editing. You also get Roxio, aos 2.0 CinemaNow for playback of DVDs and CyberLink DVD Suite. Oddly enough, our system did, AOT with the near-ubiquitous trial version of Microsoft Office, but you can get a copy of Microsoft Office 2010 Starter Edition, included at no extra cost to get. As for the warranty, HP supports the Envy 17 with an impressive two years limited hardware plan, Äîtwice as long as the industry standard.

HP Envy 1917 ISN, AOT the fastest or the most powerful notebook with a LAN party or an artist studio aos grace it, aos not a workstation or a gaming rig. It, aos an entertainment notebook that does a great job of entertaining. Playing music was very good, Blu-ray movies looked great, and high-end 3D gaming is more than possible on this notebook. Plus, you get so many extras, including slot-loading Blu-ray drive, the three-screen functionality with ports onboard, the HD webcam, some really good software that normally costs a few hundred dollars, and much more. What aos perhaps the most impressive, the system weighs only 7.5 pounds yet manages to fit into that beautiful 17-inch screen.

Compaq Probook 6550b Review

The Compaq Probook 6550b is a 2.6 kg, 15.6IN notebook for business users who want something solid built and fully functional. It has everything from a built-in DVD burner to a FireWire port and you get even a 56Kbps modem and a serial interface, which components of an era when terms like “BBS” and “IRQ conflict” in daily use were. It is this mixture of old and new components, which makes the Compaq 6550b desirable as a tool for professionals who need a laptop for more than just surfing the web and update an iPod.

Compaq Probook 6550b

The Pavilion is a low-cost business notebook that does not compromise on features and build quality, and it delivers on these two fronts. Similar to the Compaq 6540b is a rugged design, which immediately stands out when starting to deal with the Compaq 6550b: it has metal hinges, the base feels solid when you pick it up either corner, the cover can take a fair bit of force before puddling appears on the screen and the keyboard has keys that crisp and perfect for long sessions of typing.

The keyboard includes a numeric keypad. Just above the keyboard is a row of touch-sensitive buttons that are used to manipulate the volume, start your e-mail and Web-browser applications, and disable Wi-Fi can. We are not a fan of these keys, they are not only too bright (the LEDs on most HP notebooks seem to be too strong), but they’re also a bit sluggish. Volume changes, in particular, take a few seconds before you can see the effect of an on-screen display. The response of the touch keys is also not reliable and sometimes you have a key more than once to push its function.

One wish we had this Compaq is a screen mounted light shine down could have on the keyboard, similar to HP EliteBook 8440p. Another thing that’s missing is a dual pointing device, but there is an option to buy so that both a touchpad and a can “Pointing Stick” to move the pointer around the screen to add. We found the touchpad sometimes “sticky”. The screen itself uses LED-backlit display is bright and fairly. It has a native resolution of 1366×768, 1600×900, but an optional control panel is also available.

Compaq Probook 6550b

Several configurations of the Compaq 6550b are available but the ones we used to examine an Intel Core i5-540M CPU with 2.53 GHz, a built-in Intel HD graphics card, a 7200, 320 GB HDD and 4 GB DDR3SDRAM to the 1 GB was used by the graphics card. The laptop ran the 32-bit version of Windows 7, so that an update is on the 64-bit version needs if you have more RAM (the laptop supports up to 8GB) to install. In our tests, this configuration is very good. It can be used for office applications and multimedia tasks are performed with ease. Its real-time 3D rendering performance is not great, but you could World of Warcraft or Starcraft 2 run, if you wanted.

In 3DMark06, the Compaq 6550b achieved a score of 1750, which is what we expected. Our Blender 3D and iTunes MP3 encoding test periods averaged 53sec 59sec each and a couple of seconds faster than what similarly configured Dell Studio 17 laptop will be recorded in the same tests. Transcoding a DVD file on a 1.5 GB Xvid file with AutoGordianKnot took 1h 6min, which is what we expected. In our hard drive transfer tests, the 7200rpm hard drive was due to 27.17 megabytes per second (Mbps) which is around 4 Mbit s slower than what the Compaq 6540b is with its 250 GB hard drive reached, we would like to see it about 30 Mbit s go. You have the option to install a Solid State Drive (up to 160 GB).

On the software and security side of things, the Compaq 6550b ships with HP ProtectTools, a fingerprint reader and Trusted Platform Module. You can use the fingerprint as a replacement for typing in passwords and HP Protect Tools, administrators can lock the machine so that certain devices are not used, and to encrypt the hard disk. We have spoken about ProtectTools in our review of the Compaq 6540b.

Compaq Probook 6550b

The Pavilion’s 6-cell, lasted 55 watt-hour battery 2h 12min in our rundown test, where we turn off power management, enabling Wi-Fi, maximizing the brightness of the screen and loop an Xvid-encoded videos. This is only two minutes away, which included the Compaq 6540b with the same battery and only slightly slower CPU speed. You have much more life out of this battery with a balanced power profile, lowering the brightness and turn off the screen can get during idle times.

Conclusion

With a supply base that is filled with features, hardware configuration, good performance and management tools that can be useful, the Compaq 6550b is definitely worth considering a laptop. It looks a feels a little bulky, but it is not too difficult and, above all, it is easy to type.

HP Pavilion dv4t Review

The 14-inch HP Pavilion dv4t is consumer notebook a wide range of multimedia features at an affordable starting price of $ 570. With functions that span built by Verizon or AT & T WWAN, a Blu-ray drive, and even an internal TV-tuner this notebook has the ability, the hub of a home or dorm entertainment system to be. Take a look at this review and find out what you can do all a “budget” notebook.

Construction and Design

The design of the HP DV4 has the same heavily chromed accents like the dv5 and new HDX models. I think that HP went slightly overboard with the use of shiny surfaces and in some cases, you will end up blinded by a number of things. could trim when using the notebook outside on a sunny day, the touchpad, speaker grills, media access keys, or even the palmrest blind when the sun hits it just right. Another high-gloss surface that is not the happiness of this model include the Infinity glass panel over the already glossy display. The few models that we in our offices with that setup have had to make viewing the screen a challenge in all but perfect lighting conditions with the amount of reflections.

HP Pavilion dv4t Review

Build quality is above average, with durable plastic all around the chassis. The painted surfaces seem to hold up well against minor scratches from day to day use, but they do not win a few fingerprints. The plastic, from which the palm rests fairly rigid but flex under moderately heavy pressure. The display cover is the same way, only bend a little, a lot of pressure. I do not think this notebook would have easily carried in a backpack with a bundle of heavy textbooks.

Display

The glossy LED-backlit WXGA (1280×800) panel is bright and lively, with excellent colors for viewing images or movies. Contrast seems a bit of everything, because the black shows up as dark gray wash full instead of black. Viewing angles are average with limited vertical viewing angle that gives you a sweet spot of +/- 15 degrees. Horizontal viewing angles are much better with the colors remain true, even from very wide angles. Brightness levels are more than adequate for viewing in a bright office setting. Sunlight readable, the glossy surface is limited, but if you have a site with some shade, it should be fine to find.

With the included Blu-ray drive watching HD is limited to around 720p content with the lower 1280×800 screen resolution. On a screen this small you probably would not even notice the difference. The HDMI output is a better choice for movies, capable of outputting the full 1080p resolution Blu-ray movies, and high-definition audio.

Keyboard and touchpad

The full-size keyboard is comfortable to type on, with only slight pressure needed to complete each key. The individual key action is smooth with a bit of plastic jiggle as you type. Keyboard distance is excellent, and no part of the keyboard felt cramped as though HP wanted to fit more keys than necessary into the mix. Keyboard support is excellent, with a very rigid surface that do not even move with very strong pressure. If the keys were painted black you could probably get through even called it a business notebook keyboard.

The touchpad is an ALPS model and feels very responsive with little lag. The entire surface of the touchpad consists of a high-gloss plastic, and hard on the first pass. The surface must collect some finger natural oils to allow easy sliding across the surface. If you clean it with alcohol every so often, it will be difficult to move your finger in one smooth motion until more oils collect on the surface. The touchpad buttons are in an easily accessible location and can be easily controlled with the thumb. The buttons provide mild feedback with a short throw that gives an audible click when pressed.

controls for quick access to movies, the DV4 a touch-sensitive media access panel above the keyboard. It has dedicated buttons for the QuickPlay HP media control area, Mute, Volume up/down, media controls, and wireless on off.

Performance

The system performance with the 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T9600 processor, 4 GB of system memory, and NVIDIA 9200M GS dedicated graphics excellent. Day-to-day applications scream, mostly in the context of the top-of-the-line processor. The NVIDIA 9200M GS video card not help much for playing modern games, but it will help offload processing power when decoding Blu-ray movies. In all but video encoding the processor in our test model was not used, and a slower processor could have probably done just fine. Order from the base 2.0GHz T5800 processor T9600 for a $ 550 upgrade that could be better spent to save money on a faster hard drive or a docking station.

Speakers and Audio

The onboard speakers leave a lot with a tinny sound at moderate volume desired. Both bass and midrange were lacking, and at high volume levels the speakers distorted quite. Lack of low-and mid-range is quite common with many notebooks, headphones left as the only good option for enjoying movies or music. They are close to a home theater, the audio from HDMI, you can also support audio through the route.

Battery Life

The battery life is average with the high capacity 6-cell battery. With the “HP Recommended” power profile enabled, wireless and active, and the screen brightness to 60 percent of the system with 3 hours and 24 minutes running time before he squeaked his 5 percent and wanted to shut down. HP has an extended range 12-cell battery that should offer even more battery life, but without any specifications listed, which would be at capacity and note it is difficult to estimate how long the battery would not.

Conclusion

The HP Pavilion dv4t works and drag a media hub for a home theater, and a mobile equipment for school or travel. Port selection is fantastic, and with the local dock connector allows you to connect even more devices. The “SmartBay” removable expansion has worked well, if you wanted more storage instead of an optical drive. While the price on our configuration was quite high, because a few key components such as the top-tier processor, a more modest configuration would result in a much more affordable notebooks. Overall, you get a lot for your money in a rugged housing that should easily keep for a number of years.

HP Pavilion dv5t

What do you do when almost every major notebook manufacturer has imitated the design of your best-selling consumer laptop? You give a whole new look and add compelling new features, including an accelerometer to protect data in a tumble dryer. And with the next generation Intel Centrino 2 processor and chipset and Nvidia’s latest graphics card under the hood, supports the HP Pavilion dv5t its sweet aesthetics with some serious horsepower. After nearly two years of sticking with the same design, HP is making several moves to spice up their Pavilion line. The HP Pavilion dv5t is part of a large group of HP consumer laptops (all the Pavilion ones, as well as the Compaq Presario notebook) to receive an interior chrome treatment. If in these new models the convergence between a laptop and a home theater experience otherwise apparent, its new “frameless” widescreen and built-in TV tuner should drive that point home. And now that Intel has finally launched its latest Centrino 2 platform, the dv5t is one of the first in a complete performance tune-up.

HP Pavilion DV5T Review

This was not an Extreme Makeover, by all means. The dv5t still slightly overweight at 6.3 pounds, while the differences between him and the previous Pavilions are barely discernible from the outside. The LED-backlit HP logo was about the only adjustment made to the lid, and it is similar to the approach the Apple MacBook Pro 15-inch (Penryn) took with its logo. The glossy black finish, laminated with a decorative pattern process called in-mold decoration-resembles that of the previous system, the HP Pavilion dv9500t. I would not change a scene I enjoyed.

This is not the first time I’ve seen Pavilion all chromed up. The HP convertible tablet, was the first with a bright metallic above the keyboard, palm rest area trim, and touch pad. The new look has a better job of hiding fingerprints and smudges than a black polish, although against a fluorescent light can be reflected glare of a distraction. The surface of the keyboard feels smoother because of the chromium, but not slippery, so that typing experience is very pleasant. The mouse buttons are slightly more stable than in the previous Pavilion model are so weak pops detectable but not annoying.

The “frameless” part of the 15.4-inch widescreen is a glossy treatment extending past the scene and into the black edges, creating a uniform look. HP introduced the idea in the HP 2133 Mini-Note PC, while it perfected in the Lenovo IdeaPad Y510, complete with a drop-down hinge. As always, HP offers several options for screen resolution. In this configuration, the made-1 0.050 1680-pixel screen video and photos really pop. The touch-sensitive buttons, volume bar, mute button, and DVD playback controls are backed by LEDs and the cinematic appeal. The Altec Lansing speakers sounded very good, although HP should match the five-speaker system (with subwoofer) on the Lenovo Y510.

For all laptops that took out their built-in TV tuner, like the Toshiba Qosmio G45, I glad to see HP led in the opposite direction. Instead of the lame ExpressCard TV tuners that HP used to the latest pavilions, including the dv5t offer an option for a built-in ATSC (HD) tuners have. You must attach a separate coaxial dongle and antenna, but they had no problems receiving over the air, high-definition channels at my Manhattan location.

The feature set is probably one of the best in the industry. Like other Pavilions, the dv5t comes with four USB ports-one of which is an eSATA/USB combo port. eSATA is an alternative interface for connecting an external device such as a hard disk, and it is four times faster than USB 2.0! Although this particular configuration is not dv5t with a Blu-ray burners come, can be added for additional money. An option for a high-definition drive explains why an HDMI output that allows you to stream digital content to a larger display, a standard feature. The rest of the goodies-the 1.3-megapixel webcam, a FireWire port, and are 5-in-1 card reader, what you expect from a Pavilion laptop.

Part of the new Centrino 2 platform, code-named Montevina, the dv5t is one of the newest Penryn processors. The 2.53-GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T9400 has the support for the new 1066-MHz front-side bus (FSB) and also on the Sony VAIO VGN-FW198UH can be found. The dv5t’s SYSmark Overall score behind the VAIO fallen by 4 percent. The Sony has 4GB of memory, compared with the dv5t’s 2GB, which could change for the small difference. But in general, exceeded the dv5t’s SYSmark scores to those of the Dell Studio 15 and the Apple 15-inch (Penryn), which both had previously Penryn models.

Other tests, such as video encoding and Cinebench R10 proved that the new Centrino 2 platform is not invincible. The Apple 15-inch (Penryn), dv5t with a higher clocked processor, better grades than those on these two tests off while the MacBook Pro Photoshop CS3 scores only a second behind which were the two Centrino 2 laptops. The dv5t comes with a 55-Wh (six-cell) battery, which emptied in 3 hours 12 minutes, testing after the MobileMark 2007. Like its predecessors, it is a 12-cell option, though these batteries is not backward compatible in the.

Conversion of an entire line is a big deal if you’re HP. The HP Pavilion dv5t does not receive the kind of makeover you’d expect from the number one PC retailer, but the revision of certain aspects of the construction was necessary to update current HP owners. You can also view a new frameless widescreen and built-in HDTV tuner functions to check the home theater enthusiasts clamoring that should have dv5t. The dv5t The big difference is that it is one of the first notebooks available on Intel’s latest Centrino 2 platform. Nevertheless, the improvements are modest. There is some performance gains, but you will notice that there is excellent battery life to get through a 12-cell battery, not the platform itself.
