Shuttle launches Atom powered all-in-one desktop with OpenSUSE Linux

Compact computer maker Shuttle has been offering Linux desktops for a while, and barebone systems with no operating system at all. Perhaps it should come as no surprise that the company is the latest all-in-one desktop with Linux. But I’m always surprised a little.

The shuttle X500V is a dual-core 1.6GHz Intel Atom 330 CPU, 1 GB of RAM and a 160 GB hard drive – all the information you expect the delivery of a computer with Windows XP. But instead, it runs OpenSUSE 11.1 Linux.

The computer measures about 15.4 “12,9″ x 1.4″ and features a 15.6 inch, 1366 x 768 pixel touchscreen display, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, Ethernet, VGA output (for a second monitor, I suppose), and 5 USB ports. It is not in the United States.

NVIDIA introduces ION LE platform for Windows XP computers

NVIDIA introduces ION LE platform for Windows XP computers

NVIDIA has a slight variation of its ION platform, which combines a low power Intel Atom processor with a higher performance NVIDIA graphics. The new NVIDIA ION LE is almost exactly the same as the first generation ion, but according to Fudzilla, ION LE DirectXv9 only, not DirectX 10th

ION LE is for Netbook and nettops Windows XP, while the broader Featured ION version of the NVIDIA platform supports DirectX 10 and is expected to be bundled with computers running Windows 7th

Microsoft offers low-cost licenses for Windows XP Netbook and nettop makers for the last year or so, which helps the price for this computer. It also helps them from competing with higher end systems. It is likely that NVIDIA also cut some costs, which may or may not be along to consumers, by supporting DX9 but not DX10, at least until Windows 7 is widely available.

Dell offers Della for women

Dell offers Della for women

A computer maker has finally understood that women computer buyer and as such are in a part of the women with their website. Dell has always been at the forefront, but by introducing Della she opens up a whole new section of the market, which until now pushed to the side.

Perhaps computer makers were not discriminated against women, in fact, through the introduction of Della they have priority if they need to for other groups such as children, the elderly and thus on the list could be endless.
