HP ZR24w 24-inch Monitor Review

Well, after about one month back and forth between cheap TN panels huge and priceless professional IPS panels, I finally decided ZR24w new HP.

First I had a monitor with DisplayPort. I am one of those types who is preparing for various contingencies, and triple (or more!) Monitoring gambling Eyefinity ATI’s technology seems a lot of fun. I would never have the money to a reality, but I want to leave the option open.

HP ZR24w 24-inch Monitor Review

Sure, I could get by with one of those DisplayPort to DVI adapters, but after reading so many horror stories about working dongles exhibit flicker and what not and some only blink if placed on a bus-powered USB hub, and some passive-DisplayPort to DVI single link works perfectly fine for 1920×1200 @ 60Hz, while others completely refuse, etc.. I decided I’d just save myself the headache and get a monitor with a native DisplayPort input.

Second, I wanted a panel which would look terrible in portrait mode. If I ever decided to get three of these monitors I do not think the office real estate to three of them to settle into the landscape. It ruled the abundance of cheaper TN panels, which are universally horrible viewing angles on their vertical axis.

Third, I wanted something with a bigger than a .255 dot pitch. Do not get me wrong, my old Samsung 204B is a very nice monitor, but I tend to go down about 2 1/2 feet and read a significant amount of text on Windows 7′s native resolution of 96 dpi is a test in the eyes. I tried using 120 dpi scaling, and it helped for the most part, but some applications just do not scale and number of UI elements were hidden or unattractive packaging.

These three desires left me with only a handful of displays to choose from. And once I shot the options based on price, the new HP ZR24w was the only one still standing.

HP ZR24w 24-inch Monitor Review

It does not have a native HDMI port on the back, but a DVI to HDMI adapter will solve this straight away. It supports HDCP and DPCP, so it’s both annoying digital content under appropriate protection. I was initially surprised by the actual aluminum strip framing the entire screen. At first I thought it was purely decorative, shows the strip is for heat and hot to the touch after several hours.

The generic integrated USB 2.0 hub is turned on and requires no additional power. The on-screen display (OSD) has a shit ton options. It leaves me even turn off the power-blue-red standby light on the front panel.

Performance-wise, I noticed no ghosting typically associated with IPS / PVA (MVA) panels on the fly. Women’s PVA panel suffers from a slight ghosting and serves to aggravate her motion sickness. The HP ZR24w is my TN-based Samsung 204B (used to look better than average) look dull and washed out. According to a friend with a similar HP monitor, Pantone Huey Pro color calibrator are reported ZR22w that the panel is 98.5% accurate from the box. (I have not kidnapped him and his fancy color calibrator to test for this particular screen.)

While this display is not designed for professional color accuracy, it is great for people in graphic design and photo editing from time struggling to time, or just can not justify spending $ 800 + IPS at a professional display. I am very happy with the HP ZR24w and I highly recommend it to others with similar tastes to mine.

Samsung FX2490HD 24-Inch Monitor Review

With its chrome effect and are dark brown bezel, this is a great looking 24in monitor. It’s actually an LED HD TV, but Samsung says it is primarily a computer monitor. This is strange, because all the features you would expect from a modern TV present: a well-designed remote control, a seven-day EPG and interactive services via the red button. There is also picture-in-picture support, so keep an eye on the game while working on a document by using the PC input.

Samsung FX2490HD 24-Inch Monitor Review

The only disappointment is that there is no support for Freeview HD.

On the back are two HDMI inputs, a VGA interface, a Common Interface slot (for pay TV with Sky Sports), plus headphone and optical S / PDIF outputs. Has his own connections for component video and Scart inputs, mainly because there is no room for the full-size connectors. Converter cables are included in the box, though.

A large, glossy panel includes all the connections to make things tidy. However, this means you have to remove a USB flash drive for media playback. It supports photos, music and a wide range of video formats including MKV, AVI, MP4 and VOB.

Menus look a lot slicker than any computer monitor we’ve seen, and there are many options. In addition to TV-specific settings, such as creating a list of favorite channels, there are controls for adjusting sharpness, hue, flesh tones, white balance, black level, dynamic contrast, shadow detail, gamma, color space and much more. In fact, the large number of options bewildering and overkill for most people.

Samsung FX2490HD 24-Inch Monitor Review

Still, we were happy to see that the settings are saved for each input. Also, we quickly realized we would need them if none of the three color presets were not good. Dynamic produces exaggerated colors and sharpness, Standard and is saturated in yellow, and Movie can be washed. Unfortunately, even after one hour’s worth of tweaking, we were unable to get accurate colors. Skin tones were always yellow and the contrast was not eliminated. Moreover, we could not remove the over-processed appearance by a combination of sharpness, color processing and noise reduction.

When looking at our test Blu-ray movies, we immediately noticed a lack of detail compared to a good quality LCD TV, and test scenes also looked grainier than usual. The color problem was, the only time we did not notice was in cartoons where the vibrant colors were appropriate.

We had to color and contrast when connecting a PC via the VGA tweak, but no matter what we tried, we could not achieve a sharp, well-scaled image when using a DVI to HDMI converter. FX2940HD generally is not great as a PC monitor.

Whatever our gripes so far, there is a bigger problem: the price. The FX2490HD a TV tuner, media player, and a variety of inputs, but it’s about twice the price of a standard 24in display. Considering you can buy a better quality 32in HD TV for similar money, the FX2490HD is bad value.

Acer GD235HZbid LCD Display Review

Gamers and movie lovers looking for some stomach-churning excitement of their computers will soon have a 3D display option from Acer: the company has just announced its GD235HZ 23.6-inch 3D display with a native resolution of 1,920 by 1,080 pixels , a 120 Hz refresh rate, and support for 3D content, combined with Nvidia’s Vision 3D active shutter glasses and appropriate Nvidia GeForce graphics card for 3D content to push the screen.

Immediately after taking the Acer monitor from the box, users will notice how light it is. With the base attached to these controls in the featherweight at only 12.8. Lbs, very light compared competing displays.

The display is slowly starting four to six seconds. Acer T230H Touch Screen Display Review

Apple fans have enjoyed the benefits of multi-touch computing for some time, but Windows users are bit late to arrive at the party. However, Windows 7 announced as the first version of the operating system to “fully embrace multi-touch technology”, we begin to see notebook PCs and add-on tablets to support the functionality.

For those of you wondering what the fuss is about, the T230H allows you to do away with your mouse and keyboard, if you want, and full use of your PC by touching the screen. You’ll also be able to use a few fingers to turn and pinch just like you can zoom on an iPhone.

Acer T230H Touch Screen Display Review

Now with the Acer monitor T230H you can use these features make by simply plugging in your Windows 7 PC. The display hooks using VGA, DVI or HDMI, the touchscreen features handled by the USB port. Windows 7 will recognize the display as an input device and you can use pen and touch input controls automatically.

Physically think of the Acer G24 gaming monitor – but without the screaming metallic orange paint job – the T230H has an angular, modern look with a relatively thin rim and a row of buttons along the bottom right. The display comes with a decent height adjustable stand, and it all feels quite heavy and solid, that’s a good thing seeing as you’ll soon be poking and prodding it with both hands. Yes, you can be assured that this monitor is not going to fly over the back of your desk.

Would we have been thrilled to find that the monitor on-screen menu can be operated with the touch interface, but we were not surprised to discover that you can not. The usual, frustrating, trudge through menus with buttons is it.

If a 23IN widescreen display, the T230H specifications are fairly standard fare: support the full HD 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution with a fast 2ms gray-to-gray response time and decent 300 cd/m2 brightness Maxim. At 160 degrees in either direction, viewing angles are adequate but not great, and a dynamic contrast ratio of 80,000:1 is cited.

Touch screens are hardly new, with many tools they have with the simple mouse control easily understood and used by applications. However, to take advantage of multi-touch, you need software written specifically to deal with more than one pressure point at a given time.

Acer T230H Touch Screen Display Review

If you then there is Windows 7 multi-touch support built into the OS. So all you have to do is connect the monitor and you can start using multi-touch features right away. For example, the built in Windows Photo Viewer will allow pinch-to-zoom with two fingers to rotate positions, just as you would on an iPhone – but unfortunately without the smoothly animated rotation of the latter.

You also get the rather nice Windows on-screen keyboard and gesture-based controls for navigation. What’s more, when you touch input using Windows 7 attempts to make things easier for you by automatically adding the extra space in the menus to reduce your fat fingers fumbling.

Some third-party applications such as Corel Photo Studio 10 have adopted the multi-touch control interface, making good use of its capabilities across the suite. Still, many older applications remain ignorant of touch input devices, but Windows 7 is built in a number of legacy support for such programs so that most of them using the basic two-finger panning, zooming and flicking gestures to make.

T230H supports the two touch points, so you’ll be able to get the essential multi-touch operations described above to perform, but has not come close to the palette of many advanced finger gestures supported by the Mac. That said, the T230H’s multi-touch functions are not supported by the Mac at all.

Acer T230H Touch Screen Display Review

Using the Windows T230H control is sometimes a pleasure – the large text and controls found in Windows Media Center, for example, makes it really quick and fun to use. However, it can occasionally quite frustrating too often results in repeated failed attempts to drag and drop or select a particular screen element.

A particularly frustrating example is trying to move a Windows Sticky Note around the screen. Touch the part with text, and you will be in the predictive text input, but an attempt at your finger zorgvuldig edge to the right spot on the window may fail if the monitor detects your finger to the presence of a millimeter or so before it actually makes physical contact.

At its native resolution with Windows setup with the default font, the screen elements are very small and difficult to operate with the touch screen. However, selecting large fonts from the Windows control panel improves things considerably, so the icons are generally large enough to be easily selected with a finger. Once you get used to it, the T230H really much faster than using a mouse – especially when navigating web pages, which you can flick through like the pages of a book.

Although T230H is capable of many impressive tricks to use the touch screen, its performance as a standard monitor slightly affected. Color reproduction and contrast both suffering. The nominal color range of only 72 percent of the NTSC is clearly evident lackluster. Although we prefer better results measured from around 87%, we still would not say that the color reproduction was impressive.

Acer T230H Touch Screen Display Review

Display contrast is less than perfect. When starting the PC, the Windows logo appears on a dark gray background instead of black. Calibration improved image output significantly, both in terms of color and contrast, but we still would not recommend this screen for users who were the most accurate display for photo editing.

Conclusion

While multi-touch function works reliably, you have a real need for it before buying this monitor. Not only because of the extra cost, but because the picture quality seems not as good as many others in Acer’s considerable catalog of displays.

DELL UltraSharp 2209WA 22-Inch Monitor Review

Dell is known for their wide variety of cheap LCD monitors and has practically taken over the LCD market. Low cost means rare high quality as the computers are concerned, but the Dell UltraSharp 2209WA breaks the mold with its great price and incredible quality LCD. If this is not the most popular model from Dell should be. Come in and read the review to see why!

The Dell UltraSharp line of monitors, Dell’s premium line of monitors. When a consumer buys one of the UltraSharp monitors, there is an expectation that Dell will deliver a high quality monitor with a solid build quality and great picture quality.

DELL UltraSharp 2209WA 22-Inch Monitor Review

Dell began its product designs to renew the 2209WA and a more muted, somewhat more professional looking design migrate. The front of the monitor is an all-black design with a chrome logo on the bottom that the new logo design found in the Dell Latitude notebooks matches. The plastics are used in the design feel very strong, the monitor very well built, and there are plenty of openings in the back to allow heat to vent out. It is also pretty light for a large LCD screen, which is great for consumers who want VESA-compliant monitor is used, desk mounts or wall mounts.

Dell moving away from those little silver buttons on the latest monitors, and instead all black buttons around the right corner of the screen that blend into the ring. These buttons are much easier to manipulate compared to older Dell screens, but we found the blue LED on / off button a bit too prominent. But in general I think all the blue LEDs pushy.

The position that the 2209WA has a very wide range of motion, and it has no problem supporting the display. The LCD screen can be lowered just a bit, but it can be tilted upward to the point that users should have no problem viewing the display while standing up have. The rectangular base allows users to swivel the display 45 degrees in either direction, and has several inches of height.

As with all Dell UltraSharp monitors, is a four port USB hub is also included. Users can attach their keyboards and mice to the display and still have two ports for attaching USB keys left, and only need a single USB cable to the desktop. A pull-out map of the two rear USB ports include the monitor serial number and other information about the monitor. Unfortunately, Dell choose to any reader omitted in the draft so that mode remains exclusve to larger (and expensive) Ultrasharp monitors. Dell was also fairly minimalist, with other features to the final price down, because only a DVI-D and a VGA port are included.

DELL UltraSharp 2209WA 22-Inch Monitor Review

The 2209WA has a number of built-in video processing functions, but not much flexibility in adjusting the process settings. Users can force the display all content in the 4:3 aspect ratio show, but that is only useful if users are mainly 4:3 images are displayed which was actually stored as a 16:10 or 16:9 wide format. Otherwise, the setting is useless. The LCD screen has a native resolution of 1680×1050, and when the video source is not equal to the native resolution of the monitor will stretch the image to the maximum amount of screen filling property while maintaining the aspect ratio of the source. There is no way to get 1:1 pixel mapping possible.

The video processor in the 2209WA has two aptly named “graphics” and “video” modes. The graphics mode, for all purposes, toggles the video processor and the source video signal is passed directly to the LCD. “Video” mode is a bit more interesting because it allows users to tamper with the appearance of the display to be optimized for a particular content. The video mode can be configured for viewing movies, games, sports and nature images.

After testing all of the video modes, we really do not see much of a point for them. The gaming mode is the only mode that does not cause text and images to a “halo” effect to develop, and it seems just about the RGB settings to adjust in an attempt to improve the quality of the game. The film, sports, and nature all modes introduce graininess in images and text, which often display unbearable. In our view there is no reason to monitor something other than the “graphics” mode. Text is beautiful in this mode without any halo effect, while the images and videos are displayed in their original vibrant colors at no extra noise added in.

DELL UltraSharp 2209WA 22-Inch Monitor Review

Conclusion

While the monitor does not run a bit hot, there is much love about the Dell UltraSharp LCD monitor 2209WA. It is an exercise in restrained design that focuses on providing a large display with excellent lighting, color uniformity and EIPS technology that will blow any TN monitor out of the water – no cost an arm and a leg. It may not have some features found with other monitors (including dual DVI, HDMI and DisplayPort connectors, or a multimedia card reader), but we think that Dell hit the bullseye with the function of this monitor set quality and price.

Samsung SyncMaster B2230 Review

Now that widescreen desktop displays the transition to the 16:9 aspect ratio should be no surprise that the monitor vendors now full high definition capabilities to offer their smaller models. Enter the HP 2150m, a 21.5-inch screen with a maximum resolution of 1,920 by 1,080 pixels, meaning that a true HD-capable monitor (1080p). The panel has a fairly good job with color and small text, and I hold with three video inputs to choose from, but it suffers from some performance problems.

Samsung SyncMaster B2230 Review

Design

The HP 2159m is similar in design to its bigger brother, the HP w2558hc. Both have a glossy black frame with a strip of silver trim, and both offer a sturdy folding stand where you can stash away your keyboard. That’s where the similarities end, though. The 2159m The stand has a hinge to tilt the screen back and forth, but you can not raise and lower the panel as you can with the w2558hc. Nor does the 2159m its rotating capabilities. Around back are three video ports (HDMI, DVI and VGA) monitor so you can connect to multiple devices, such as a game console, a PC and a Blu-ray player to hold, without switching cables. There is also an audio input to the integrated 2-watt speakers, which is actually quite loud and produce a crisp but slightly tinny, wall of sound feeds. Missing is a headphone jack and USB ports, as found on Lenovo L215p, a similarly priced 21.5-inch monitor.

Four clearly labeled function keys and an aqua-blue illuminated on / off switch mounted under the lower ring and right. The buttons you use HP’s intuitive on-screen menu system, where you can change image settings such as brightness, contrast, sharpness and color temperature. There are three color presets to choose from, and you can create your own custom color temperature by adjusting the RGB levels to your liking. I found the 9500 pre-K on a saturated bluish pictures produced, while the sRGB setting was a little too dark and produced considerable staining in the gray tones. The 6500 K setting offered the best overall picture, but it led to some minor reddish tones but a mistake that clearly was L215p Lenovo’s too. Other features include speaker volume and input selection, and there is one meter, the first time you power the monitor, the total number of hours that the backlight is correct.

Samsung SyncMaster B2230 Review

Performance

Performance was a mixed bag. The 2159m has a good job of displaying each of the 25 intensity levels on the DisplayMate color scales test, and color swatches of color purity test were uniform and well defined. However, grayscale performance was a different story, in addition to color errors, the panel had trouble displaying the darkest and lightest shades of gray on the 64-Step Gray Scale Test. If you need a higher degree of accuracy grayscale for things like photo editing, the HP LP2275w is a better, albeit more expensive choice. I also noticed a line of backlight bleed along the top of the screen. The seepage is barely noticeable for the most part, but a distraction when viewing dark scenes film and gaming. On the plus side, small text was clean and very easy to read.

Watching the action thriller “Shooter” on a Blu-ray disc is a treat. The 2159m produced a sharp image at 1080p, which was relatively free of motion errors, except a few stray artefacts. Viewing angles were good, although some minor color shifts at about 160-degrees, which is normal for a TN panel. My Far Cry 2 gaming test showed that this panel will have no problem handling fast 3D action clean and smooth. The monitor comes with a meager one year warranty on parts, labor and backlight.

Samsung SyncMaster B2230 Review

Despite the problems with performance, the HP 2159m is more than capable of handling the bulk of your work and after-hours jobs, but there are better performing models out there for about the same price. If you are looking for a hi-res screen that a few more features and better dark grayscale performance, the Lenovo L215p Wide gives you a USB hub, a webcam, and a wonderful three years warranty, but you’ll have to live without a DVI port.

Acer H233H 23-Inch Monitor Review

the Acer H233H is a 23-inch monitor with a good performance and low price. For many of you, as a large part of the review you need. For the rest, the Acer H233H includes not only has DVI, VGA and HDMI connections, but it also includes the necessary cables for each – a welcome novelty we hope more vendors start including. The display has a built-in speakers and performs well when playing games and watching movies. The Acer H233H is a great, cheaper alternative to the Samsung SyncMaster XL2370. The Acer has a good performance, but it’s not quite in the same league as the XL2370.

Acer H233H 23-Inch Monitor Review

Design and Features

The 23-inch Acer H233H has a 16:9 aspect ratio monitor with a glossy screen, black frame and a foot. The oval stand is 10.6 inches wide by 7 inches deep. The distance from the bottom of the ring to the desktop is about 2.6 inches. The rear panel has a smooth black mat and is relatively flat. The panel measuring 1 cm thick with connectivity and ventilation system to add another 1.5 inches thick, bring the full thickness of 2.5 inches. The panel full width measures 21.7 inches. The angular ring measures 0.8 inches wide at the sides and the screen has a slightly frosty matte finish. Unfortunately, the Acer screen height is not adjustable and there is not an option screen rotation or pivot for portrait mode. Her ability to tilt back 15 degrees, the only ergonomic function.

The Acer can be connected via HDMI, DVI or VGA port. In a rare move by a monitor vendor, Acer includes cables for all three connections and an audio cable for the built-in speakers. Monitors all connections are on the back right of the panel and are easily accessible because they are not hidden in the monitor too far. On the back of his H233H four holes for mounting the screen on a wall, VESA style.

The on-screen display button array is aligned horizontally in the lower right corner of the ring and covers the power button, a left and right buttons – more than twice as volume control – like a menu, car, and a preset shortcut. Each button gives a white light from a single LED, which is great if you calibrate the monitor in a dark room. To the left of the OSD array, the power button that emits the same light.

The OSD contains five presets: User, Text, Standard, Graphics, and Movie. It also includes controls for brightness, contrast, color temperature, and the ability to color temperature and red, green and blue values individually. Navigating the OSD has a short learning curve, but it’s not as easy to use OSD as Dell.

The 16:9 Acer H233H ratio supports a “Full HD” 1.920 x 1.080-pixel native resolution. This continues the trend of the monitor vendors moving towards 16:9 4:10 p.m. by high-definition content – especially 1080p movies – can a 1.920 x 1.080-pixel display in full-screen mode to adjust without stretching of the image.

Performance

We tested the Acer H233H connected to a computer via the DVI connection. While H233H performed generally well on the DisplayMate tests, there were a few areas where we disappointed. First, the screen had a hard time displaying dark and instead crushed much of it to the point that they not only indistinguishable from black, but also other shades of gray. The Acer’s Dark Screen disappointing performance drew looks of us. During this test – which is just a plain, black screen – the clouding or backlight bleeding was clearly and openly. H233H the brightness reaches a score of 251 candelas per square meter (cd/m2) and has fairly good contrast ratio of 818:1.

We used the H233H’s Movie preset to check out “Kill Bill: Vol. 1″ on DVD and some 1080p movie files from Microsoft WMV HD Showcase. Both Kill Bill movies and 1080p, we found that the XL2370 and H233H were nearly identical in their color accuracy. Each monitor comes fairly deep, saturated colors that do not have many bright scenes. For example, one scene has an abundance of clouds that each monitor displays clear, keeping the clouds detail.

Acer H233H 23-Inch Monitor Review

We looked at World of Warcraft and Unreal Tournament III and saw no signs of streaking or ghosting or input lag during fast movements. The Acer H233H the colors in games seemed almost as full and vibrant as we saw when they play on the Samsung SyncMaster XL2370. General, games looked better when using the standard user preset, not the graphics preset.

The optimum viewing angle for a monitor is usually immediately before, about one quarter of distance from the screen down from the top. At this angle, you’re viewing the colors and gamma correction as they were intended. Most monitors use TN panels that get overly bright or too dark in parts of the screen when viewed from nonoptimal angles. Acer H233H uses a TN panel, and when viewed from the side or bottom, we saw on the screen to about 6 inches off of the darker center. Of course, when viewed from the optimum angle, we had no problems.

The speakers at the top back of the monitor, making them susceptible to sounding muffled. The speakers have a great sound does not deliver a piece, but it is OK after some getting used to.

In our power consumption tests, the Acer had a relatively low H233H On / Default power consumption of 38.6 watts high for a CCFL-based monitors of this size. However, if there are to their respective maximum brightness, tthe Acer H233H climbs to a rating of 45.45 watts. The Acer’s standby power draw is a relatively low 1.09 watt.

NEC EA231WMi LCD Monitor Review

The NEC MultiSync EA231WMi has a native resolution of 1,920 x 1,080, which means it has an aspect ratio of 16:9. While you lose vertical space compared to a 16:10 display, it explains why the screen does not exceed the costs of $800. The really interesting aspect of this screen is that it is the first IPS 23IN 16:9 monitor than TN or PVA panel technology.

As we saw with the HP LP2475w, IPS technology means awesome picture quality and color reproduction, but it often means a higher price than TN. Fortunately, that’s not the case here, because the NEC can be found for around $550.

That’s not all, it has an ECO mode that reduces power consumption from 43W to 28W (although arguably you would not want to use it during the game as it dims the screen), and the state is also good – the screen can tilt and turning, and you can adjust the height too – all adjustments are easy to apply.

The OSD menu navigated using a jog dial on the front of the panel, it works well and is much faster than using buttons. The screen brightness can be set to automatically adjust the brightness of the room through a light sensor, but we found it too distracting. Moving the jog dial up or down adjusts the volume of the medium embedded 1W speakers or a headset plugged into the 3.5mm jack of NEC.

This connector is located on the side of the panel next to the two USB 2 ports. Inputs include DVI, DisplayPort and D-Sub, with cables for all bar the latter included in the box. Two USB 2 ports are nestled between the display inputs. Truth be told, there is little wrong with the NEC in the way of ergonomics and features, you may be put off by the white and silver color scheme of our review model.

A black version is available, but NEC is not clear which product code should look for when you want. NEC confirmed to us that the black version has the suffix “BK”, but it’s worth what color you order with the dealer too.

While the native resolution is 1,920 x 1,080, the NEC is also able to scale up to 1,920 x 1,200. However, not surprisingly, this results in a loss of image quality, especially sharpness, and scans the image on the screen (essentially zooms in). This can be useful in games that only support 16:10 resolutions, but it’s not critical – because in its native resolution, the NEC is just great.

Given the IPS panel in the NEC, we had high expectations – and we were not disappointed. Digital pictures that we had so many boring, they had already looked like they shot by a professional or juiced up in Photoshop seen. Detail jumped out at us with brilliant precision and liveliness, and there were so many more colors are visible on more modest than the NEC monitors that was quite shocking.

HD video playback was also striking, with not a hint of artifacts in dark areas of the image. The edge detail and sharpness in particular were amazing, and exceeded only by the explosion of color in action scenes. Our standard video test – a 1080p HD trailer for Serenity – was a joy to watch, though it was slightly less surprising than the HP LP2475w said.

games also looked fantastic, with lush green forests in Crysis look incredibly realistic. There was an excellent color depth to the environment of the game on the NEC, even if HP went a little further with the wow factor. Viewing angles were excellent at the NEC, with next to no loss in image quality and color accuracy as we moved our heads up, down, left or right.

NEC EA231WMi LCD Monitor Review

Our input lag test showed no problems either with the NEC until the millisecond with our input virtually lag-free control monitor Dell 3008WFP-HC. While we were worried that the quoted 14ms response time would result in blurry images and ghosting in games, the NEC show was about the same level as the HP – it was fine if not exceptional.

Conclusion

We found it surprisingly easy to get used to the reduced level of 16:9 23IN Panel on a 16:10 24in screen – the NEC is still a considerable window. The state offered numerous possibilities for adjustment of the panel position at the right height and angle for comfortable and we want to integrate the four-port USB hub also. However, the outstanding feature of this screen is the brilliant quality of the panel. While the HP LP2475w uses a superior H-IPS panel that standard IPS, and 4:10 p.m., the greater resolution of 1,920 x 1,200, it costs £ 440 and is nearing the end of his life, so it is hard to find . Whether you can find an HP sales, the NEC MultiSync EA231WMi is certainly worth considering.

Samsung 2233SW 21.5-Inch Monitor Review

At $200, it’s difficult to care too much about the Samsung SyncMaster 2233SW’s shortcomings. Sure, it has low screen brightness, no HDMI connection, a clumsy onscreen display, and no ergonomic features aside from tilt. However, most people will be willing to looking past these shortcomings, thanks to the display’s sub-$250 price–especially if they’re only looking for a general-purpose monitor. Throw in its good movie and games performance and a useful and robust OSD, and you have a worthwhile investment. Compared with other displays, such as Samsung XL2370 and Dell’s S2409W and SP2309W, the 2233SW’s overall performance and lack of features can’t compete against more feature-rich displays. It relies on its low price as its trump card and is currently at least $50 cheaper than the others are.

Design and features

The 21.5-inch Samsung SyncMaster 2233SW has a design that closely resembles the Samsung SyncMaster 2233RZ. The Samsung display is devoid of useful ergonomic options such as screen rotation and height adjustment, offering only a 25-degree backward tilt. When placed on a desktop, the Samsung leaves 3.75 inches between the bottom of its screen and the desk. On the sides and top, the Samsung’s glossy bezel measures 0.75 inch and 0.8 inch, respectively. The Samsung’s oval-shaped footstand measures a bit larger than 10 inches wide and 8.5 inches deep. When knocked from the sides, the Samsung wobbled minimally, but it did slide a few inches across the desk with each knock. On the bottom-middle of the Samsung’s bezel is a light gray, painted on Samsung logo.

The Samsung panel measures approximately 1 inch deep and extends another 1.5 inches behind the ventilation, lighting, and connectivity options include. These measurements are counted, the display panel is approximately 2.5 inches deep. The full width of the panel is 20.3 inches – which is average for a 22-inch model. Running across the bottom of the ring from Samsung is a clear glass “lip” about an inch long. If the monitor is turned on, a blue LED radiates from the bottom of the ring and reflects off the lip, creating an interesting lighting effect. In this model, Samsung ditches the usual glossy screen viewed on monitors these days, instead opting for a matte finish.

The video connection options are limited to VGA and DVI, and Samsung includes cables for each. However, there is an HDMI connection not included – which is surprising because most monitors have an aspect ratio of 16:9 this connection. All ports are connectors on the back and on the right side of the monitor. Samsung also flush the ports in a way that makes them a bit difficult to access.

Display on the screen of the Samsung SyncMaster 2233RZ the buttons on the lower right of the monitor on the outside of the panel. It contains five buttons stacked on top of each other. The buttons below the menu, Up, Down, Enter and back, with the power button below. The Up and Down buttons also double as shortcuts to the brightness and contrast, respectively. Each button is almost a half inch in diameter with a spherical shape. Pressing the button makes a satisfying clicking sound and every depressing enough to make it clear when it is pushed. The buttons have enough space between them so that when calibrating the display in low light, you can easily tell the buttons apart.

Pressing the Menu button brings the OSD menu. Here are the options for brightness and contrast in addition to the OSD menu options for determining the length of the menu stays on the screen when idle (up to 200 seconds). The presets include text, Internet, Game, Sport, Movie and Dynamic Contrast. Choosing each preset include adjust screen brightness, but the film seems presets for color temperature change to more of a red push than the other presets that make it bluer. However, this was not detrimental to the image.

16:9 ratio, the Samsung SyncMaster 2233SW supports a “Full HD” 1.080 x 1.920-pixel native resolution. This continues the trend of more and closer monitoring of suppliers move towards 16:9 4:10 p.m. by high-definition content – especially 1080p movies – can a 1.920 x 1.080-pixel display in full screen mode fit without stretching the image.

Performance

We tested the Samsung SyncMaster 2233SW using its DVI connection. The display posted a composite score of 96 on DisplayMate-based performance tests, the same score as the Samsung SyncMaster XL2370 and higher than the Dell SP2309W’s 90 score. In our dark screen test, the 2233SW showed only a small amount of backlight bleed through, less than the Samsung SyncMaster XL2370.

The 2233SW achieved a brightness score of 231 candelas per square meter–much lower than the XL2370′s 344 cd/m2, and the Dell SP2309W’s 297 cd/m2. The difference between the monitors is readily apparent, as the 2233SW’s screen looks noticeably darker in comparison. When we set the brightness of the 2233SW and XL2370 to 100 and 75 respectively, we found that when looking at the same image, the XL’s whites were noticeably brighter without compromising the dark detail and deep blacks of the image. The 2233SW displayed whites that were noticeably darker than the XL2370′s and took on a bluish tint.

We used the 2233SW’s Movie preset to check out “Kill Bill: Vol. 1″ on DVD and some 1080p movie files from Microsoft’s WMV HD Showcase. Other than the red push in the film advance, the 2233SW display deep blacks and decent color when playing movies.

We looked at World of Warcraft and Unreal Tournament 3 on the monitor and saw no evidence of input lag, streaking or ghosting during fast movements. We both played tested in Game of the screen, preset and while we were able to play the game without problems, the overall presentation was darker than what we prefer and places in the game that had jumped into overly bright are not looking so bright as they did on the Samsung XL2370. The Samsung colors in games just not the same pop as the XL2370, thanks to the relatively low brightness.

The optimum viewing angle for a monitor is usually right on the front, about one quarter of the distance from the screen from top to bottom. At this angle, you’re viewing the colors and gamma correction as they were intended. Most monitors are not designed to be viewed on a different angle. Depending on the type of panel, image quality varies nonoptimal angles. Most monitors use TN panels that get overly bright or too dark in parts of the screen when viewed from nonoptimal angles. The Samsung SyncMaster 2233SW uses a TN panel, and when it is viewed from the sides or bottom, we experience the screen to about five inches darker off of the center and we noticed that the left, right and above the display dark colors at the same rate as the SyncMaster XL2370. Of course, viewed from the optimum angle, we had no problems.
