Asus U45JC-A1 Review
If you need to create the ideal thin-and-light notebooks, the recipe would look much like what was used to make the ASUS U45Jc-A1. This 14-inch laptop has the right ingredients, including zippy performance, Nvidia graphics, and a long battery life. We also liked the beautiful design in brushed aluminum so that the U45Jc a tempting bargain alternative to the MacBook. However, this design looks better than it feels to build something of quality questions. If the U45Jc-A1 a good choice or fizzle is she?
Design
The U45Jc looks a lot like the UL30, a notebook that we loved. Like its 13-inch siblings, it is a silver, brushed-metal lid with a glossy plastic chassis and keypad to match deck. You’ll also find a black Chiclet keyboard. Since both the lid and the lower lip narrow down their edges, the U45 looks lighter than its 4.8-pound weight and 13.5 x 9.6 x 1.1-inch frame. (It’s still lighter than the 14-nch Samsung Q430, which weighs 5 pounds.)

While attractive, could be U45Jc better build quality. If the notebook is closed, for example, you can feel the cover pressing on the finger when you grip it near the hinge. You may also hear a noise when pressed, as if it stuck to the bezel. This is not a deal-breaker by any stretch, but it has no confidence, either.
The U45Jc has a standard selection of ports, including HDMI and VGA output, 3 USB ports, an Ethernet jack and headphone and microphone ports. It also has a 5-in-1 memory card reader. The only thing missing is a USB port that doubles as eSATA port, for faster uploads of compatible hard drives.

As usual today, there are not many buttons above the keyboard, except for the power button and another that starts directly in Express Gate, ASUS ‘instant-on operating system (more on that later). Instead, you will find multimedia keys, like a mute button, baked in the top row of function keys. The skip buttons are on the Up and Down arrow keys on the bottom of the keyboard.
Performance
The U45Jc has a 2.4-GHz Intel Core i3-370M Processor, 4 GB RAM and a 500GB 5,400 RPM hard drive. His score of 4791 on PCMark Vantage, a Windows performance benchmark is almost 300 points above the average. This shows the best score of 3,600 ASUS UL80 (the UL80 makes up for it with longer battery life). But the Intel-powered Core i5 Samsung Q430 and Gateway ID49C08u both better off, with PCMark Vantage score of 5598 and 5490 respectively. By U45Jc, we were able to convert a 114MB MP4 file to AVI in 53 seconds with Oxelon Media Converter, while the average thin-and-Light 10 extra seconds of waiting to do this.

The U45Jc the hard drive copied a 4.97GB file in 3 minutes, or at a rate of 28.3 MB s, while the average notebook of this size completed the same task with a rate of 24.25 Mbps. This is faster than the Samsung Q430, ASUS and Gateway ID49C08u UL80. But unfortunately the U45Jc booted in 1 minute 16 seconds, while the average thin-and-light lasts 1:02. We blame the heavy burden of preinstalled software (more on that later).
Software
The U45Jc the list of included software is somewhat larger than other notebooks, including Amazon Kindle for PC, Power2Go CyberLink LabelPrint and Google Chrome, Google Toolbar for Internet Explorer, Skype 4.2, Times Reader, Windows Live Essentials obtained. It also attempts Microsoft Office 2010 and Trend Micro Internet Security, and a variety of ASUS-branded software for everything from the webcam software on the laptop face recognition.

Verdict
The ASUS U45Jc-A1 is one of the better thin-and-light notebooks we tested this year, design thanks to its long endurance, strong performance, and send. However, prevents us from less than stellar build quality, this notebook has a higher rating and an Editor’s Choice Award. It is not as powerful and not last as long on a charge, the 14-inch ASUS UL80Jt-A1 ($ 849) a more stable suspension.
