At first glance you can notice anything different about the latest line introduced by Apple’s MacBook Pros, in April 2010. The new models, the 13-function -, 15 – and 17-inch screens, sports the same sleek, minimalist design, the same keyboard, and the same multi-touch trackpad than the previous iteration. The ports have not changed. The difference, you really have to down and dirty and actually begin with one of the following new members of the MacBook Pro family. Once you do this, you will see progress in the performance in a number of laptops that already was well ahead of their competition and a lot out of battery life, the blows the competition out of the park.
We have a $ 2,349 Apple MacBook Pro Z0J62LL/A model to a 2.66 GHz Intel Core i7-920 processors built and tested a 15-inch screen, using our laboratory. The base-model 15-inch MacBook Pro costs $ 1,799 and features a 2.4 GHz Core i5 processor and a 320 GB hard drive, a $ 1999 bump-up model has a 500 GB hard drive and a 2.53 GHz slightly faster diversity of Core i5. All three employ the same Nvidia GeForce 330M GT graphics processor, but with different amounts of dedicated graphics memory (512 MB in our test unit, 256 in the other two). You are also capable of certain components individually on these basic models upgrade to the Apple Store online.

Apple has also updated the 13-inch and 17-inch versions of its MacBook Pro. The basic model of the 17-inch MacBook Pro is $ 2299 and uses a Core i5 processor. (Upgrades in CPU and hard drive are available, with, for example, a Core i7-920 chip in a $ 200 premium.) The entry-level 13-inch model costs $ 1,199 (with a 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo CPU and a 250GB hard drive), and a $ 1,499 model is also available (2.66 GHz Core 2 Duo, 320 GB hard drive). Note: With this generation of MacBook Pros, the basic price of the 15-inch model is $ 100 (a small amount considering the souped-up insides get increased). The 17-inch base price has fallen from $ 200, and the 13-inch base price remains the same.
On the outside, the 15-inch MacBook Pro Z0J62LL/A is almost exactly the same as before. Design-wise, that we, Apple was smart enough to the new line with the position when it is not broke, do not fix it approach. The current line of MacBook Pros was as amazing as it was strong, and the new line will relay the torch. The silver case of an aluminum housing with only one seam to the bottom of governed, feels much tighter. Nothing special mars the design of the MacBook’s Body: The top of the lid is a simple white Apple logo that lights up when the notebook is in use. And, well, that’s experience. The case snaps shut with a magnetic lock, thus opening the cover easily, without the durability of the body.

Like the previous version, the connectors on the left side of the housing and include an Ethernet jack, a FireWire 800 port (backward compatible with FireWire 400, 200 and 100), two USB 2.0 ports, a Mini Display Port connector (for connecting an external display), headphone and microphone ports and an SD card slot. Toward the front of the chassis on the left is lit, to allow for a quick view of remaining battery power. On the right side of the body have a security slot and the opening for the slot-loading optical drive, which is a dual-layer DVD burner. As with the previous MacBook lines, does not support Blu-ray discs.
Once you open the lid, you will also notice that hardly anything changed in the design of the keyboard and multi-touch trackpad. The full-size keyboard with backlit keys is, and it is perfectly arranged and responded well to the touch. An ambient light sensor adjusts the backlight brightness according to the key of the room, where you work.

The keyboard deck is a generously sized, buttonless multi-touch surface with a glass trackpad. Instead of the two-button touchpad you’ll find on most other notebooks, the entire trackpad of the MacBook Pro Z0J62LL/A as the button, so you press everywhere to adopt a function for, then you use two fingers of the right mouse button. A new feature on the trackpad is that when you swipe up or down with two fingers, you will continue to scroll through the page until it reaches the top or bottom, like a IPAD or iPhone works. We appreciate these touches that Apple keeps adding another bridge together their products. We have also discovered that even toggle in and out of full screen mode when viewing a DVD, by pinching and dragging on the touch pad, a nice accessory. We found the trackpad to get used very easily, especially since it works much like the touch screen on an IPAD or iPhone.
As with the previous MacBook Pros, the trackpad allows you to use a four-finger, to show your desktop to any open window, or change programs. Of course, now the necessary multi-touch functionality is also built here. (This is the same as the touch functions on an Apple iPhone or IPAD, so that you can zoom, rotate and move images around with two fingers.)

The 15-inch glossy screen on the model we tested has a native resolution of 1,440 x900. You can upgrade to a higher resolution 1680 x1, 050 screen, with either a glossy or anti-reflective surface, for an additional $ 100 or $ 150, respectively. We found the base model of the screen to be more than sufficient to show movies and photos with vibrant, true colors. Artists you might want to upgrade to the high-resolution, glare-free screen, but, as we see significant reflectivity when we were dragging the machine around our offices have.
Apple iSight camera in the middle of the living top of the screen bezel, along with a camera-warning indicator light, the lights up when the camera is on. (This could save you from embarrassing moments when you do not want to do something about being seen in front of the camera.) The camera is commendable, as we noticed very little refresh delay, and he even worked well in low light conditions.

As we worked our way around the MacBook Pro’s Z0J62LL/A body, which we finally agreed a so-small-you-might-not-notice, to change it. The part of the power supply to the body of the MacBook (left connects) is now a silver cylinder, instead of the white rectangle on earlier versions.
Within the latest line of MacBooks is where you find all the new goodies, and they not only increase performance, but graphics rendering. This is for a number of laptops that has a dedicated following of important graphic designers and filmmakers. In the 15 – and 17-inch models, graphics performance gets a tremendous boost with the inclusion of the Nvidia GeForce 330M GT, a dedicated graphics processor. (The 13-inch version uses Nvidia’s integrated 320M video circuitry.) Also incorporated in the 15 – and 17-inch models, but is a low power integrated Intel HD graphics chipset, and these laptops are designed to automatically between the two graphics chips, depending on the situation.

The previous MacBook Pro line also featured switchable graphics, but the conversion was done manually and required log out and log back in. The graphics in the new line intelligent switch on the fly, depending on the program you use. For example, if you use graphics-intensive video-editing software, the more powerful GeForce 330M can be switched automatically. But if you’re watching a DVD or surfing the Web, the MacBook Pro Z0J62LL/A is on the integrated Intel HD switch circuit, saves battery life. Although most users does not recognize that this function is at work, until, as it increases the battery life Note we give a thumbs up to switch to no longer among and between the two graphics modes manually.
And if you wonder why Apple is using Nvidia graphics hardware, but does not activate the decision for Optimus Nvidia’s technology (which is also discrete graphics card automatically, if necessary), told us the reason Apple is battery life. Nvidia Optimus solution turns on the dedicated graphics hardware in addition to the integrated graphics chip, not instead of what it means, according to Apple (and common sense), more of a burden on the life of the battery, otherwise everything remains the same.

The other major thrust in the processor core Core i7 CPUs i5 and finally the MacBook line. (Core i5 and i7 chips are not available in the entry level 13-inch models, the standard with a Core 2 Duo chip, yet are i3 core CPUs on one of the MacBook Pros.) And the hard drive is another area the flexible customization. You can update each of the models on a solid-state drive (SSD), although it certainly does. A 128GB SSD costs an additional $ 200 more than the 5400 rpm 500 GB hard drive in our test model, a 256GB SSD is an additional $ 650, and a 512GB hard drive is to break the bank at a premium $ 1300. For an additional $ 50, our test configuration with 500 GB hard drive is also available in a variety of fast 7200 rpm available.
So do what all these upgrades to the power? Not surprisingly, in our test model, we saw a huge bump in the MacBook Pro’s Cinebench 10 points thanks to the Core i7 processor. (Cinebench measures processor capability, and taxes all available cores when rendering a standard test image.) The score of 8612 is a leap of almost 2,000 points over the previous year, 17-inch MacBook Pro we have tested that a Core 2 Duo Chip presented.

We did not see a change on our iTunes encoding test how fast the processor is a standard slate of 11 songs from MP3 to AAC format convert measures. Under three minutes to complete, to the conversion task, this model came within 1 second of the previous 17-inch MacBook Pro. As we expected, we did not see how big an improvement on this test, as in the other (the comparison of dual-core to quad-core chips, our iTunes test is rarely the benefit of the additional cores), but these score is extremely fast and with almost all laptops we have seen, apart from a few high-end gaming machines compared.
Battery life is where the MacBook Z0J62LL/A continues to wipe his competition off the board. In our demanding DVD rundown test, in which we are a film loop, until the battery dies, the battery lasted an amazing 6 hours and 55 minutes. At that time bests the previous version of the MacBook Pro for almost two hours and the hours before the next competitor. According to Apple, the battery can in the 15-inch and 17-inch MacBooks last up to nine hours if you are carrying out light tasks, and it should support up to 1,000 recharges. Battery life on the 13-inch model is rated even higher, at 10 hours. This is a nice perk, because from replacing the battery by means of sending the whole machine to Apple and pay $ 179 for a replacement cell.

MacBook Pro Z0J62LL/A with Mac OS X Snow Leopard OS (version 10.6), the software suite iLife ’09 (includes the excellent iPhoto iMovie, iDVD, bundled, accompanied iWeb and GarageBand application). noted iLife ’09, as we do when we reviewed the software last year, is a very useful and superior all-purpose bundled suite for media consumption and creation, and it surpasses all others in general with a PC. The MacBook Pro Z0J62LL/A also comes with a one-year warranty and 90 days of free telephone support. An extended AppleCare warranty covers the system for another two years, it costs $ 349 extra and was not included in the cost of our test unit.
If you are thinking about upgrading your MacBook Pro Z0J62LL/A from the last iteration, is our most important buying advice to remember that almost all of the improvements over the previous line are performance-centric. If you’re a serious content creator crunching large images or video files, you and you are not viable with the way your current MacBook is happy, we can wholeheartedly recommend an upgrade. The inclusion of the Core i5 and i7 chips Apple finally catches up to the latest CPU technology and the Nvidia GeForce GT 330M video hardware, the new MacBook Pros in line with its competitors in terms of graphics. You will not find many upgrades in external characteristics, and the design is exactly the same. But Apple has once again taken what is already an impressive machine and made it even better, to increase a moderate price, that the additional benefits more than justified.
