HaiPad M703 Chinese Tablet

HaiPad the line of tablets have a reputation as a cheap and … yeah, that’s really about. The WiiPad Slim Tablet Plus I looked away and was recently rebranded HaiPad M701, and while it was probably one of the better sub-$ 200 Android tablets I’ve seen, that’s not really saying all that much. But now the company behind the HaiPad tablets is a new model that actually looks pretty interesting.

HaiPad M703 Chinese Tablet

HaiPad The M703 is a 7-inch tablet with an 800 MHz ARM Cortex A9 AmLogic processor, which must be much zippier than the ARM11 chips feed HaiPad earlier models. The tablet runs Google Android 2.2 and can handle 1080p HD video playback. It also has a Mali GPU for 3D graphics and an HDMI output to pump HD video to an external display. The tablet may also support for Adobe Flash Player 10.1 for Android.

Unfortunately, the tablet itself still has a low resolution of 800 x 480 pixel screen – about the same resolution as you would expect from a smartphone with a 4 inch or smaller display. It seems that the tablet will be available with a choice of a resistive or capacitive touch screen (and I mean choice in the OEM, the tablet to distributors in large quantities with a screen or other customers … probably not have choice). HaiPad The M703 has 512 MB of RAM, 8G of storage, and a 3000mAh battery like on Apple MacBook Pro MC723LL/A Laptop.

1.8 million XO laptops in the wild

It’s easy to forget what happened to tens of millions of low price, low power netbooks shipping in the last few years, but it is likely that netbooks never would have hit the market if not for the OLPC XO laptop as well as Apple MacBook Pro MC723LL/A Laptop. Nicholas Negroponte’s vision for a $ 100 laptop for students in developing countries has become more of a $ 200ish laptops that can cost as much as $ 490 per student to actually implement. But the non-profit OLPC Foundation has shown that you could a usable notebook with long battery life and durable components without breaking the bank.

1.8 million XO laptops in the wild

And, then Asus, HP, MSI, Dell, Samsung and others took the idea and ran with her, the assembly line consumer-oriented portable and cheap laptops. HP and Dell are also an attempt to get their netbooks into the hands of students and some smaller players working with Intel’s Classmate PC reference design.

So where does that leave the XO laptop? How many people have actually made it into the hands of students? The Digital Reader reports that the exact figure is hard to nail down, but members of the Sugar OS development community (the operating system running on the XO) have a pretty good guess: about 1.8 million euros.

While only a drop in the bucket of the overall notebook market, it’s important to realize that the XO was never targeted at consumers with easy access to computers and the disposable income to spend on them. That 1.8 million computers have found their way to students and teachers in developing countries. Many are in places with little access to electricity, which is why the sunlight-readable displays and long lasting batteries are important.

OLPC’s laptops have the lead in dust-proof housing. And the foundation is trying to repair the laptop as easy as possible, because replacement of laptops (and components) may not be so easy to find in the rooms where the laptops are in use.

Apple MacBook Pro MC723LL/A Laptop Review

Last year, when Apple 15-inch MacBook Pro update, packed a Core i7 CPU and switchable graphics iconic company in the aluminum unibody chassis. Apple is upping the ante again, this time with the second generation of Core processors from Intel, AMD graphics, a high-definition webcam and Thunderbolt, a new high-speed connection that an entire HD movie can transfer in less than 30 seconds. Plus, this powerhouse still delivers excellent battery life. Apple kept the same price as before (from $ 1,799 to $ 2,199 as configured), so the more you get for your money?

Apple MacBook Pro MC723LL/A Laptop Review

The 15-inch MacBook Pro sports the same cut-from-a-single-piece-of-metal unibody design as before, with a sturdy aluminum frame and rounded edges. The overall look is stylish and modern, but it makes upgrading individual components (such as RAM and hard drive) is difficult, as the whole bottom has to be unscrewed.

The 15-inch MacBook Pro has the same dimensions (14.4 x 9.8 x 1 inches) and weight (5.6 pounds) as the previous version. While we certainly felt the extra lift, while the performance of the machine home, did it fit in our bag, which is more than we can say about most 15-inch notebooks. The Dell XPS 1915, for example, weighs one pound more and a bulkier measures 15 x 10.4 x 1.3 to 1.5 inches. , Regardless of the MacBook Pro will table an entire airline.

Like Windows-based notebooks, Apple is updating its laptops with the second generation Intel Core processors. Our 15-inch MacBook Pro comes with a 2.2-GHz Intel Core i7 processor and 4GB RAM 2720QM. After installing Windows 7, we ran PCMark Vantage in Boot Camp and saw a score of 7648, which is tops in the 15-inch notebook category, where the average is 4764, and about 1,000 points higher than the previous MacBook Pro (6699 ). The only ones that scored higher – and costs less – had SSDs: The Lenovo ThinkPad T410s (11,264) and the Sony VAIO Z (9475). The15-inch MacBook Pro Geekbench score of 10,874 was double the previous generation (5422).

Booting into Mac OS X 10.6 took the 750GB hard drive a fast 44 seconds same as the previous generation. In OS X, we duplicated a 4.97GB directory of multimedia in 2 minutes and 20 seconds with a speed of 36.4 Mbps. That is about 12 Mbps faster than the category average.

The benefits of the integrated media encoder to the second generation of Intel Core processors were also clear when we transcoded into a 114MB MPEG-4 AVI using Oxelon Media Encoder. It took the new 15-inch MacBook Pro is only 37 seconds, 10 seconds faster than the previous model, and 45 seconds faster than the average. We then used CyberLink Media espresso on a 5-minute 1080p convert video to iPod touch format. The program, using the AMD GPU to accelerate the conversion, it took 1 minute and 24 seconds needed to complete the task. In 46 seconds faster than the category average.

For the latest generation MacBook Pros, Apple switched from AMD Nvidia GPUs. Our 15-inch model, the Nvidia GeForce chip GT330M replaced by an AMD Radeon HD 6750M with 1GB of DDR5 memory. However, like the previous generation, the 15-inch MacBook Pro comes with switchable graphics – this time with an integrated Intel Graphics HD 3000 GPU.

As with the last generation MacBook Pros, users no longer log out or suffer through a few seconds delay while the notebook switches chips, the transition has been seamless and immediate. Unlike Nvidia’s Optimus technology, which routes everything through the integrated GPU (but same result), Apple’s method disables the GPU that is not in use. In this way, Apple claims better battery life while still delivering more power when needed. If software detects that a graphical application frameworks such as Core Graphics, OpenGL, and Quartz Composer, it will turn on the discrete GPU. Users can also disable automatic switchable graphics in the Energy Saver control panel, but it will lead to the discrete GPU to remain at all times.

On 3DMark06 (implemented in Boot Camp), the discrete GPU AMD scored 10,359, which is more than double the category average (3559) and about 3,250 points over the previous 15-inch MacBook Pro. The beats of dedicated gaming rigs like the ASUS G53Jw, the Nvidia GTX 460 GPU notched 8640, but it is a virtual link with the HP Envy 17; that machine the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5850 GPU-driven system a score of 10.482.

Conclusion

You have to credit Apple for finding a winning formula and tweaking the right places. The new 15-inch MacBook Pro is not only better than its predecessor, but almost every other notebook with a fair margin. It has the same sleek design, but includes the next generation Intel and AMD processors and Thunderbolt for high-speed data transfer. As always, though, Apple products command a premium: $ 2,199 is a reasonable price to pay for such services. For comparison, a Dell XPS 1915 with the same processor, but 6GB RAM, a 750GB 7200-rpm hard drive, Nvidia GeForce graphics GT540M (and 2GB memory), a resolution of 1920 x 1080 screen, Blu-ray, a Skype Certified 2 MP webcam, and a nine-cell battery, costs about $ 700 less. Yet that system is much larger, weighs one pound more, and even with the larger battery, not so long on one charge. As always, if you want the best, you have to pay for the best.

Immediately after taking the Acer monitor from the box, users will notice how light it is. With the base attached to these controls in the featherweight at only 12.8. Lbs, very light compared competing displays.

Taking a practical approach to hardware, the Acer HZ looks like every other view of the size of a light-up tactile button, five buttons under the rim and a small base to keep it all together. Besides the shiny orange frame and bezel (similar to previous games model of Acer screen, the bright orange G24), there is nothing remarkable about the outside of HZ.

For the 3D experience more bearable, Acer Adaptive Contrast Management rolled in to enable users to adjust images frame-by-frame to achieve optimal contrast.

This plain-looking monitor has VGA, DVI and HDMI connections and little else. At $ 399, the old price of Samsung’s 22″ 3D display, Acer seems to have decided that the special features that are not worth the extra cost, a philosophy appreciated by gamers looking for the best while trying to buck store.

The display is slowly starting four to six seconds. If there is one thing about the GD235HZ that is clear is that Acer has poured her time and resources into ensuring that performance belies the rudimentary building design. If our testing shows, the company has managed to do a lot to do with very little.

Apple announces MacBook Pro with Thunderbolt

Apple today launched its rumored new MacBook Pro. The new systems all use the new Sandy Bridge architecture with Intel’s Core i7 processors and i5, but also run the promised new Thunderbolt technology: Intel’s Peak Light technology offers both a Mini DisplayPort and high-speed interfaces. Together with direct connections, it’s just not fast enough to FireWire and USB support on the connection, but even gigabit Ethernet and PCI Express, allowing for multi-drive RAID arrays operating at full speed on a laptop.

Apple announces MacBook Pro with Thunderbolt

Also new is the rumor FaceTime HD camera, which outputs three times higher in resolution than before and can make calls to other comparable widescreen equipped HD-capable Macs and Windows PCs with the right apps. FaceTime is 1.0 for the Mac and costs 99 cents in the Mac App Store, but will only do standard definition in terms of a 4 iPhone, iPod touch, Mac or earlier.

The line-up the biggest jump in performance of services for the 13-inch MacBook Pro, which starts at $ 1,199 for the previously confirmed 2.3-GHz dual-core i5, 4GB RAM, a 320GB hard drive and much better HD 3000 Intel graphics driving a 1280×800 screen, battery life is quoted at only seven hours, but is now using the harder “real” standards. A $ 1,499 configuration raises it to a 2.7GHz Core i5 and a 500GB hard drive.

The 15 – and 17-inch models are the first mobile quad-core Macs and start at $ 1,799 for a unique-to-Apple 2GHz Core i7 Quad, 4GB RAM, a 500GB hard drive, a 1440×900 display such as  Acer GD235HZbid LCD Display and an AMD Radeon HD 6490M graphics with live switching, all while maintaining the seven hours of battery. A $ 2,199 version of the 15-inch system is an official 2.2GHz Quad Core i7, a 750GB hard drive and a Radeon HD 6750M. The 17-inch flagship $ 2,499 has a 1920×1200 screen and the same performance as the 15-inch third edition, besides the usual USB port and an ExpressCard/34 slot instead of the SDXC reader. All systems are available today through the Apple Store and in stores.

Thunderbolt: Intel’s new high-speed port Technology

New high-speed port on Intel technology called Thunderbolt. But what is it exactly? Think of Thunderbolt (formerly code-named “Light Peak”) and two cables in one. One is a fast PCI Express cable to transfer data, and the other is DisplayPort, for driving an external monitor. Thunderbolt is a cable capable of delivering data between a computer and a peripheral device (say, an external hard drive) to 10 Gbps in both directions, Intel claims. That’s fast enough to transfer a full-length HD movie in less than 30 seconds.

Thunderbolt: Intel’s new high-speed port Technology

It is also 12 times faster than FireWire 800 and 20 times faster than USB 2.0, according to Apple. As a thunderbolt connector is a DisplayPort connector, a port on a notebook resources – like the new MacBook Pros, which Thunderbolt ports – can connect to an external monitor, which in turn can connect to storage devices via PCI Express. We call this “daisy-chaining” devices.

In theory, the Monitor also connect a keyboard, mouse, displays such as  Acer GD235HZbid LCD Display and even an additional Gigabit Ethernet connection, all data that passes through the internal peripherals Thunderbolt cable connecting the monitor and the notebook. The makers of these hardware devices have just a tiny Intel chip to the Thunderbolt signal to the PCI Express and DisplayPort signals add.

“All Thunderbolt technology devices share a common connector, and individuals simply daisy-chain their devices one after another, connected by electrical or optical cables, have” Intel’s press release states. In short, a monitor has become a hub for PCIe peripherals that you can easily dock your notebook with a single cable. For that to work, of course, you have a Thunderbolt-compliant monitor – not currently exist.

Fortunately for Mac users, Thunderbolt plugs the same shape as the Mini DisplayPort connections in all recent Macs, and it is compatible with, so you can hook an older monitor to a new Thunderbolt port (still using a DVI, HDMI or VGA adapter) and it will still work. You will not have a data channel, but the video connection will function.

In the longer term, the speed of the PCI Express bus allows for a variety of devices to be connected via a simple external cables instead of internal expansion cards, a significant increase in the extensibility of notebooks and even netbooks. Video recording devices, RAID arrays and who knows what’s easy to simply add the plug into a port Thunderbolt.

For now, Apple is the only company we know of offering Thunderbolt-enabled gadgets. Intel lists a number of other partners who will use the standard, including storage makers LaCie and Western Digital, and says it works with other companies to bring the technology to “computers, monitors, storage devices, audio / video equipment, cameras , docking stations and more. ”
