NEC EA231WMi LCD Monitor Review

The NEC MultiSync EA231WMi has a native resolution of 1,920 x 1,080, which means it has an aspect ratio of 16:9. While you lose vertical space compared to a 16:10 display, it explains why the screen does not exceed the costs of $800. The really interesting aspect of this screen is that it is the first IPS 23IN 16:9 monitor than TN or PVA panel technology.

As we saw with the HP LP2475w, IPS technology means awesome picture quality and color reproduction, but it often means a higher price than TN. Fortunately, that’s not the case here, because the NEC can be found for around $550.

NEC EA231WMi LCD Monitor Review

That’s not all, it has an ECO mode that reduces power consumption from 43W to 28W (although arguably you would not want to use it during the game as it dims the screen), and the state is also good – the screen can tilt and turning, and you can adjust the height too – all adjustments are easy to apply.

The OSD menu navigated using a jog dial on the front of the panel, it works well and is much faster than using buttons. The screen brightness can be set to automatically adjust the brightness of the room through a light sensor, but we found it too distracting. Moving the jog dial up or down adjusts the volume of the medium embedded 1W speakers or a headset plugged into the 3.5mm jack of NEC.

This connector is located on the side of the panel next to the two USB 2 ports. Inputs include DVI, DisplayPort and D-Sub, with cables for all bar the latter included in the box. Two USB 2 ports are nestled between the display inputs. Truth be told, there is little wrong with the NEC in the way of ergonomics and features, you may be put off by the white and silver color scheme of our review model.

A black version is available, but NEC is not clear which product code should look for when you want. NEC confirmed to us that the black version has the suffix “BK”, but it’s worth what color you order with the dealer too.

NEC EA231WMi LCD Monitor Review

While the native resolution is 1,920 x 1,080, the NEC is also able to scale up to 1,920 x 1,200. However, not surprisingly, this results in a loss of image quality, especially sharpness, and scans the image on the screen (essentially zooms in). This can be useful in games that only support 16:10 resolutions, but it’s not critical – because in its native resolution, the NEC is just great.

Given the IPS panel in the NEC, we had high expectations – and we were not disappointed. Digital pictures that we had so many boring, they had already looked like they shot by a professional or juiced up in Photoshop seen. Detail jumped out at us with brilliant precision and liveliness, and there were so many more colors are visible on more modest than the NEC monitors that was quite shocking.

HD video playback was also striking, with not a hint of artifacts in dark areas of the image. The edge detail and sharpness in particular were amazing, and exceeded only by the explosion of color in action scenes. Our standard video test – a 1080p HD trailer for Serenity – was a joy to watch, though it was slightly less surprising than the HP LP2475w said.

games also looked fantastic, with lush green forests in Crysis look incredibly realistic. There was an excellent color depth to the environment of the game on the NEC, even if HP went a little further with the wow factor. Viewing angles were excellent at the NEC, with next to no loss in image quality and color accuracy as we moved our heads up, down, left or right.

NEC EA231WMi LCD Monitor Review

Our input lag test showed no problems either with the NEC until the millisecond with our input virtually lag-free control monitor Dell 3008WFP-HC. While we were worried that the quoted 14ms response time would result in blurry images and ghosting in games, the NEC show was about the same level as the HP – it was fine if not exceptional.

Conclusion

We found it surprisingly easy to get used to the reduced level of 16:9 23IN Panel on a 16:10 24in screen – the NEC is still a considerable window. The state offered numerous possibilities for adjustment of the panel position at the right height and angle for comfortable and we want to integrate the four-port USB hub also. However, the outstanding feature of this screen is the brilliant quality of the panel. While the HP LP2475w uses a superior H-IPS panel that standard IPS, and 4:10 p.m., the greater resolution of 1,920 x 1,200, it costs £ 440 and is nearing the end of his life, so it is hard to find . Whether you can find an HP sales, the NEC MultiSync EA231WMi is certainly worth considering.

Intel Atom N570 Coming Soon

The netbook market has suffered quite a blow to the Apple iPad joined the portable digital device revolution, but it is not completely dead just yet, despite the strong showing by the growing niche tablet. Reports have raised over 30 million shipments this year, and there is a release date for the upcoming Atom N570 processor – we know it has been confirmed to be clocked at 1.66 GHz compared to the current Atom N550 chip is clocked at 1.5 GHz.

Intel Atom N570 Coming Soon

Lenovo, Asus and Samsung are among some of the names tipped to release netbooks with said processor in March. Lenovo IdeaPad will do so with their S100 as shown on the right, while Samsung’s candidate would be the NC110. The clock will not make that much of a difference unless the video chipset is able to catch up with the rest of the machine, so hopefully these netbooks as well as Lenovo IdeaPad U260 that run on the new Intel Atom N570 processor will also sport at least one Tegra 2 NVIDIA chipset too.

India’s $35 tablet

$ 35 tablet India has been delayed, according to a report from New Delhi. The government issued the first tender was canceled because the seller who won he failed to obtain a bank guarantee. The device as well as Lenovo IdeaPad U260, called Sakshat or “for your eyes,” was expected to be January 15.

India's $35 tablet

By its failure to secure the bank guarantee, the first vendor, HCL Info Systems do not meet the requirements and the government would jeopardize the case not to deliver. “Yes, we have republished a new tender. The issue will be resolved in a few weeks, “the unnamed official told the Economic Times.

The first order is for 100,000 tablets, powered by Google’s Android. The government has allocated $ 6,500,000 for the project. A source close to the project, the seller does not agree with the financial cost of the components, that is what led to the cancellation of the tender.

The tablet was originally to have 2GB of storage, Wi-Fi, an Ethernet port and only 2 watts of power use. Many analysts believe that parts alone would cost more than $ 35 and the suppliers would have to be subsidized before they could meet the price needed to hit the target.
