According to Asus, the V in a rather intricate pattern of VW266H name stands for value and provides the Company as in compliance by 25.5 inches screen full 1920 x 1200 resolution and built-in audio with a suggested retail price of only $ 350. On paper, it is a budget monitor buyers dream. On the desktop, it’s pretty close. Although not perfect, manages to juggle multiple priorities VW266H – including price – very effectively, making it one of the most practical monitors in its class.

Features and Design

Asus has not made any dramatic stylistic departures with the VW266H, which assumed the same sports-style piano black bezel and rounded corners than many of its competitors, accented with a strip of silver on its lower edge, where the buttons are recessed. It looks clean, however, and unlike many devices that need to pick up the piano-black finish these days, do not to touch it, it remains smudge-free.

The grooved circular monitor stand reminded us of a 45rpm record. Although it feels cheap due to its low weight, you would not notice after planting on the monitor, and actually keep an admirable job on the screen shakes mammoth 25.5-inch screen to a minimum. Our complaint was the inadequacy of the usual budget is – it just swings back and forth, and has no height extension. Speakers

The sound quality of the built-in speaker has us completely off guard: it may surprise some friends. We’re not talking about a replacement for your $ 150 Klipsch setup here, but Office users and occasional music listeners will definitely find it appropriate. Band from the little drivers defied the modest 6-watts (combined) rating, and although some shows muddiness at higher levels, they can be heard at maximum volume and throws just enough to sound the complaints to your office or cube room to bring in a student dormitory. Bass is not a strength, but it is no worse than most other desktop speakers, and may well as a penalty for a range of doses of singing from the top of a monitor. More conscientious listeners, Asus also a headphone jack, though its awkward position in the back of the monitor makes it a bear to connect and disconnect.

Menus

Although the VW266H offers no shortage of features for the conduct, its menu system takes some experience and practice to really master of rapid change. Nothing is as obvious as it should be: you have to concentrate to actually press the buttons and read the instructions on the screen the first few times they go through to be effective. Some adjustments also take too long: you can adjust the volume with one touch to achieve, but the monitor volume levels by 100 ticks so slowly that your ears will be blown out by the time you are finally on the right level. (Fortunately, denied easy access to volume in most programs usually this particular annoyance.)

Display

Out of the box, shows the VW266H potential, but does not immediately impress. Most of Asus ‘Splendid’ settings (landscape, standard, theater, game, night view) be used veer too far to one extreme to. Landscape, for example, is so over the top with contrast that each image takes up a radioactive glow saturates and theater all in an unnatural bluish cast.

But after playing with the monitor’s default settings, we were able to attract a bright, well-balanced image with natural colors from the default setting. When you are ready, some time to adjust the monitor settings can be your personal preference, it is a very capable display, which comes just a little “overamped” out of the box. After tweaking, we enjoyed the lush greenery on Leeds Castle, vibrant tropical sunsets and bright city landscapes with remarkable clarity.

The monitor advertised 2ms gray-to-gray response time shone through in gaming scenarios and for watching films in which action scenes appeared blur and crisp. Not even the rabid supporters for the new Fast and the Furious or GI Joe films, it stumbled.

If there is one aspect of display quality, which really disappointed us, it could be the viewing angle. With the monitor ideally positioned minutes produced head movements rather significant differences in image quality, especially when moving up and down. While manageable, if sitting at a desk, we would have a hard time using one as a TV for that reason.

Conclusion

For the $ 350 price tag, it’s hard to argue with the combination of performance and features, the Asus has produced the VW266H. Who should yield a considerable screen real estate property without the associated price tag it delivers just that, without much sacrifice. The image quality is not used monitors rivals at twice the price, the others (and expensive) types of LCD panels and could be the monitor for a further adjustment to use but otherwise it leaves little to be desired. The audio, in particular, makes a surprisingly effective addition to the monitor that is less picky consumers to buy another pair of speakers and eliminate saves desk clutter. Put this on the short list when it comes time to pick up a larger screen.
