New Jolicloud Netbook

Earlier today Jolicloud has announced that they launch their own netbook called Jolicloud. If you are not familiar with the company, here are some context: Jolicloud is a company that is developing an operating system based on Google Chrome “web operating system”. It is basically a Linux that boots on a browser environment (it can dual boot with Windows too). Jolicloud will try by changing the user interface of the original chrome code, and by bundling a package of software that supposedly distinguish the needs of as many as possible to cover …

New Jolicloud Netbook

Graphic design and cool stickers aside, Jolibook just a netbook with a different software environment. Here is an Atom N550 CPU with 250 GB of storage. The problem is that consumers are fairly voted against Linux – the figures show that they want Windows like on Lenovo Thinkpad X100E. So what’s in Jolibook that changes this paradigm shift? Unfortunately, nothing. In addition, the chances that future updates of chrome is a lot of work required to Jolicloud the integration based on it: Think of the Android 2.2 update debacle – Netbook version. It is not clear whether Jolicloud creates its own netbook, because no computer manufacturers (OEMs) will be given a chance, but sure looks like it. Good luck for the Jolicloud team that is a difficult business. We will keep an eye on the situation.

FIC announces Tycoon tablet

First International Computer has launched a Windows 7 Tablet in Taiwan. It is unlikely that you will be able to walk into a store and buy this product under the brand name FIC anytime soon, but I would not be shocked if a western company with a contract with FIC construction of the device and sell it under a different name .

FIC announces Tycoon tablet

The FIC has Tycoon tray on a 10 inch multiouch display, a 1.66GHz Intel Atom N455 processor like on Lenovo Thinkpad X100E, 2GB of DDR3 RAM and a 120GB hard drive. The tablet is available over 3G wireless providers Vibo Telecom in Taiwan. Other carriers are testing the tablet as well. FIC for the first time the tablet this summer, but it looks like it finally starts to be sent to.

Lenovo Thinkpad X100E

The first thing to notice is how small the Lenovo ThinkPad X100e is. With only 1.5 kg, it fits in the smallest used for regular travel luggage. The 226-minute battery life, which we recorded during the test is unfortunately not as good as we hoped, but basic mobility. Despite the low price has lost none of the famous Lenovo laptop build quality. The frosted plastic and stiff chassis of the Lenovo ThinkPad X100e offer sufficient flexibility and can easily withstand the blows of life in motion, while the simple black design is elegant and stylish. Lenovo Thinkpad X100E Review

Is the Lenovo ThinkPad X100e a netbook or ultra-portable? The answer seems to be: a bit of both. It’s faster than most netbooks, with a larger, higher-resolution screen, a spacious keyboard, and a larger hard drive than you find in the rule in Lilliputian laptops. You pay for these extras, though. It’s a little heavier than run-of-the-mill Netbooks and has limited battery life. The price is almost ultra-portable and field: The machines start at $ 499, and the configuration we reviewed cost $ 695. That’s a lot for a netbook.

Lenovo Thinkpad X100E

Here’s the first thing you will pass on this ThinkPad strike, but – it’s red! (If you find that shocking color, you can also order standard ThinkPad black.) If you associate with fast red sports car, the X100e will not disappoint. With its Athlon 40 processor Neo-MV and 2 GB of RAM, achieved this ThinkPad A52 on WorldBench 6, a screaming speed for netbooks. I did not notice, pull when opening and switching between applications, surf the handling of Windows controls, or the Web.

Do not expect powerful video performance, though. The X100e shot HD, full screen video into something more like a slide show. And even at 480p, the video stuttered and jumped. Lenovo is marketing the X100e mostly corporate types and have to think that they should work instead of watching YouTube.

And this laptop is useful, to do work. The 11.6-inch display has a native resolution of 1366 x 768, significantly more than the typical 10.1-inch 1024-by-600 resolution screen netbook. And the display is relatively easy to read, even from an angle. But I found the colors on the screen a little washed out.

Lenovo Thinkpad X100E

The keyboard is full size, with large keys, shift and tab. The keys must be the kind of solid feedback on touch typists. Lenovo offers two options for pointing devices – and this is probably one too much. ThinkPad traditionalists, the company’s signature eraserhead pointer, which his own mouse and scroll buttons. The system works well for those who are satisfied with it. But Lenovo trapped in a touchpad for all people who are not accustomed to the eraserhead. And it’s just not enough room for the touchpad – the surface is small and the buttons are tiny. They are about a quarter-inch deep and right on the edge of the laptop. If you miss the keys (not hard to do), your thumb slips off the laptop entirely. The trackpad works feature multi-touch, but the answer is inconsistent – sometimes two-finger scrolling works well, the trackpad sometimes do not notice it at all.

The X100e is equipped, and you can add more functions. Our test unit had a 320GB hard drive (you can also save some money with a 250 GB hard drive). The laptop comes with Gigabit Ethernet and 802.11n wireless. A built-in 3G wireless broadband card for an additional fee. In addition, the features pretty standard – two USB ports on the left side on the right side, and a multi-card reader on the right and a VGA port in the back.

For a small machine X100e sound is impressive. Lenovo has the speakers located at the bottom of the palm rest, which inclines from the surface of the table resting on the laptop’s. The design seems more to escape the sound, so that the laptop decent volume. And for small speakers, the sound was relatively clean and precise, though understandably light on bass.

Lenovo Thinkpad X100E

At 3.3 pounds (3.9 pounds with power adapter), the X100e is a little heavier than other netbooks, but I hardly noticed the extra weight. With the standard battery lasted the X100e for only 5 hours and 28 minutes. This is anemic for netbooks, but not unexpected given more powerful processor is the X100e.

Our test unit came with Windows 7 Professional, a nice upgrade from the Windows 7 Home Edition on many netbooks. Not looking for much more in the Applications folder, though. Adobe Reader is the only piece of software from third parties. Lenovo has also loaded his own utilities, including a password manager and power management application. I think Lenovo utilities useful than the bloatware that comes on many machines, but that does not make them exciting.

At 600 dollars we tested X100e not be the kind of throw-away computer, many netbooks. For the price you get sprightly performance, a larger display and a comfortable keyboard. But look around if you are looking for great video performance or all-day battery life, otherwise.

Sony launches Vaio Y notebook

Sony is certainly no stranger to making thin and light computer, but the company has a tendency to premium features and premium price tags, it is difficult to confuse with the notebooks/ netbooks make offer. Also, the Sony VAIO W line of the 10-inch notebook with Atom processors, which are fairly typical netbook price tend to cost more than most netbooks on the market. So it is probably should not surprise anyone that Sony’s latest 11.6-inch laptop has a price tag of well over $ 1000 … at least in Japan.

When introducing the Coby Cyrus are available for $ 299.99 exclusively from the Home Shopping Network. I suspect that if and when the tablet gains wider distribution, we could see the price fall. There are actually a series of cheap Chinese tablets with similar features for significantly under $ 300 at this point. A few months Coby showed off an Android tablet that does not look anything like the Cyrus.
