Google Chrome OS netbooks coming in 2011

While there is still time before Google officially launched its upcoming Chrome operating system before the end of the year, time is running out. Google CEO Eric Schmidt recently said that Chrome OS was due for release in the next few months, many bloggers assumed that the OS would not see the light of day until early 2011 – but I checked the last time in the next few months still contains the following month. Now Engadget has some more evidence though. Apparently, Acer said Jim Wong, Chrome that the company is a netbook OS is running in next year, while the “consumer launch” to launch Chrome OS.

Google Chrome OS netbooks coming in 2011

This does not mean that Google is not a public beta version, or perhaps even a final build of Chrome for users who download before the end of the year. But it seems we have to wait perhaps until early 2011 before we actually start to develop netbooks and other hardware to see run the operating system. Chrome OS is designed basically a fast-booting operating system like on HP Compaq Presario CQ62-225NR easy to Google’s Chrome browser. It is intended to give you online almost immediately, while most applications are web applications. There is also some offline functions such as media caching for offline play, as well as services that allow you to interact with hardware such as printers.

Mirasol Low Power Color Display in Pocketbook eReader

We have been waiting for a clear message to product of Mirasol for some time, so it was a little strange to give pocketbook, their product at the low-power display with as little fan fare known. Mirasol MEMS technology has us all drooling for one month of battery life has had since her screen get no backlight and mimic light reflection in a butterfly’s wings to its vibrant colors. Pocket Book 6 are eReaders at CES have, but it will only use one with Mirasol display technology, the rest are E-Ink.

Mirasol Low Power Color Display in Pocketbook eReader

What makes the Mirasol ideal for mobile computing is that it sunlight readable Sun road use drastically improved. The screen also has a much faster refresh rate than a typical e-ink screen, making it easier to interact with on-screen menus and links like on HP Compaq Presario CQ62-225NR. The prototype, which we have seen for over 6 months at 15 fps with artificially maintain Mirasol that run in the position, 30 fps capped. I had recently with one of the Mirasol team chat and there is no reason that should the Digital Reader reports 12fps. To make video ideally want 24-30 fps what Mirasol was aiming for. I think we have to wait until we know our hands on a CES, whether it is a screen limitation or a hardware configuration choice. In the meantime, I’m crossing my fingers and toes that we see the line between ereader and  tablet, thanks to this low-power screen are blurry!

Samsung SyncMaster PX2370 Review

Thanks to its angular appearance, the Samsung PX2370 not as sexy as the XL2370 is. Samsung would not have thought that for the PX2370′s screen placement also, its worse than the XL2370 OSD display, making the navigation menu, select a less fluid experience. Samsung also announced the PX2370 a lower maximum brightness, as it was his XL2370 display. However, the Samsung PX2370 with two major improvements in the XL2370: improved movie playback performance and a wealth of useful on-screen options.

The PX2370 shows colors more accurately while the movie plays as the XL2370 works, and it has an on-screen display with more-useful features – including a feature that we’ve never seen on a monitor. The PX2370 comes with wealth of features and an improved movie playback performance, edges of its predecessor in value.

Samsung SyncMaster PX2370 Review

Design and Features

The 23-inch PX2370 is Samsung’s follow-up to the successful SyncMaster XL2370 that it published in 2009. The PX2370 is edged look than the XL2370 has a sharper edge and more-well-defined edges, such as the XL2370 against the smoother, rounded corners. The PX2370 panel measures 0.75 inches deep, which is slightly thicker than the XL2370 much thinner 0.6-inch panel depth. The PX2370 is bezel measures 0.9 inches, which is shorter than the XL2370 is 1.1-inch bezel, and as the XL2370, it has a transparent plastic overlay that covers its outer edge. The PX2370′s full width is 21.9 inches, which is about 0.5 inches shorter than the XL2370.

The PX2370 screen has a matte finish and the neck, which is a similar construction shares with the XL2370, one of the aesthetically unique designs we have ever seen. The neck is made of transparent glass, but the PX2370 does not include the blue crystals on the underside of the neck, as the XL2370 found not know what the throat PX2370 look rather plain. The display’s power button is lit down in the middle of the screen, there is a 1.7-inch-wide half-circle with a white LED light when the display is turned on. The circular base is 9.1 inches in diameter. It wobbles significantly when tapped from the sides, but we think it less likely to fall over, as the XL2370, partly because it weighs 8.76 pounds, or approximately 2 kg heavier than the XL2370.

The bottom of the screen bezel is 3.8 inches on the desktop, higher than an inch and a half as the XL2370. As the XL2370, the screen height is not adjustable and there is no screen rotation or pivot option for portrait mode. The ability to return the screen 15 degrees inclination is the only included ergonomic function.

With the PX2370 Samsung includes the same connections that it has on the XL2370, including DVI-D, HDMI and analog and digital audio output. Displays all connections are on the back of the display in the lower middle part of the plate. The ports face the rear, instead of down as on most monitors. Unlike the XL2370, Samsung has not cut the PX2370, the compounds in the monitor so that it easily accessible.

Samsung SyncMaster PX2370 Review

The XL2370 include an on-screen array in the lower right side of the screen, but Samsung has a different approach with the PX2370. The buttons on the PX2370 are vertically along the back of the monitor to the left aligned, so that they are invisible from the front. This makes navigation in the OSD is not as fluid or intuitive as it was on the XL2370. It would be helpful to the buttons on the front, pressing so that it more clear which button.

The OSD button array consists of a menu button, an Up and Down button, an Enter button, and a car key. The Up and Down keys and double the brightness and a customizable shortcut button, respectively. His image options consist of brightness, contrast and sharpness. You can also change the color to Cool, Normal, Warm or Custom, the the colors red, green and blue can be adjusted individually on the web. There are four presets: Custom, Standard, Game, Cinema, and Dynamic Contrast. Each preset changes the color temperature and brightness of the display is appropriate to perform the task you.

Samsung is the PX2370 more “magical” features that do not give it the XL2370. The first priority Magic Lux, the name of the company that gave PX2370′s ambient light sensor. Based on the amount of ambient light in the room, the PX2370 is automatically adjusts the brightness of an “optimal” level. Low, medium and high: you can choose from three levels of light sensitivity. Once on, the brightness of the monitor will immediately lower, switched to compensate for the light (or lack of light) in the room, but when moving from a brightly lit room to a completely dark room, have only noticed a very subtle change in brightness. The change was so subtle in fact see that we use paint meter to ensure that the brightness of the display had changed at all. This is a useful feature if you are looking to have to limit strain on your eyes.

Next is Magic Eco, an energy saving feature that lets the brightness to 100, 75 or 50 percent.

Samsung SyncMaster PX2370 Review

In a multi-monitor setup, Magic moves all windows and return your Windows tray on the secondary monitor the primary monitor when power on the secondary monitor is lost or simply turned off. However, the function is not the focus from the primary to the secondary if the primary is down. With Windows Vista we have found that after the shift of focus when we would cover a window, the window in the toolbar as well, until we pulled maximizes the toolbar a bit. Although it sometimes windows, we expected that open on the primary monitor instead of open on the secondary monitor. It’s not a big concern, but we hope that this gets some refinement in future iterations.

Although moving the OSD buttons on the back of the housing allowed to keep the front of its pristine charm, we had to lose some of the functional elegance of the XL2370. Although the keys PX2370′s line-up perfectly on their respective menu functions, the fact that we can not see the buttons, for all intents and purposes, makes navigating through the menu is less intuitive than we want. Our preference would be designed for front-panel buttons and intuitive OSD Dell, seen in the U2710 appear.

There is also an option in the OSD set the refresh rate of the monitor from Slow Fast Faster. But if we adjust this setting, we did not notice any performance difference.

The Samsung PX2370 display has an aspect ratio of 16:9 and supports a “full HD” 1920 0.080 x1-pixel native resolution. Thus the trend of the monitor manufacturer is a change to a 16:9 aspect ratio from a 16:10 ratio, as high-definition content – especially 1080p movies – will open in a 1920 x1 0.080 pixel screen full screen mode fit without stretching the image.

Performance

We tested the Samsung PX2370 by connecting to a computer via its DVI port. The PX2370 earned a composite score of 97 on Labs DisplayMate-based performance tests, besting XL2370 score of 96. The PX2370 has to distinguish a better job very dark gray to black as the XL2370, but in contrast to the XL2370, oversaturates the PX2370 very light gray. Plus, with a little less light PX2370 have his screen tested as the XL2370 to dark screen. Overall, the two monitors resulted in a similar manner in the tests with the PX2370 with a slight advantage in many tests.

The PX2370 reached a brightness of 246 candelas per square meter of guests that are much lower than that of 344 cd/m2 XL2370′s guests. than the PX2370 As a result, the XL2370 also achieved a higher contrast ratio – - thanks to their higher peak white measurement; 1,008:1 to 948:1, respectively.

We used the PX2370 Cinema preset out “Kill Bill: Vol. 1″ on DVD and video files from multiple 1080p Microsoft WMV HD showcase. In both “Kill Bill” and the movies in 1080p, we found that the more accurate and vibrant colors were PX2370 than the XL2370′s. In a side-by-side comparison, looked at the red XL2370 closer to orange, with deeper red when we saw on the PX2370 in the same scene compared.

During the game World of Warcraft and Unreal Tournament 3, we did not notice the signs of the input lag, streaking or ghosting during fast movements. We found that the PX2370 and XL2370 virtually identical if the display supports the Games. But thanks to the magic angle feature of the PX2370 has a performance advantage when viewing from off angle.

The optimum angle for a monitor is usually right in front, about a quarter of the way down from the top of the screen. At this angle, you are the display of color and gamma correction, as intended by the manufacturer. Most monitors are not made to be considered at another angle. Depending on the type of field, the picture quality varies from less than optimum angle. Most monitors use TN panels, the overly bright or too dark in parts of the screen when they get out less than optimal angles. The PX2370 uses a Samsung TN panel, and when viewed from the sides or bottom, we saw the screen to darken about 6 inches away from the center.

The Magic Angle mode prevents the screen when viewed from certain angles blackout. Magic Angle has four settings: Lean Back Mode 1, Mode 2 Lean Back, Standing mode and side mode. Switch to each mode improves the brightness of the screen while viewing the monitor from this perspective. For example, following the transition to Lean Back mode 2, and then you sit back, to play a game, the screen is not nearly as much darker, and as a result of game details can still be seen while you are doing irreparable damage your spine.

In power consumption tests, the Samsung PX2370 an on/Default power 25.01 watts, 5 watts less drag than the XL2370′s 30.09 watts. With a calibrated brightness of 200 cd/m2, draws about 20 watts of the PX2370, compared with the 21-watt draw of the XL2370. However, in the standby power consumption, where contests are won. The PX2370 standby power was a very low 0.27 watt, compared with the XL2370′s 1.42 watts. Based on formula would cost $ 7.65 per PX2370 year to power, the XL2370 would cost $ 9.96 per year.

New Dual-screen Acer Iconia laptop

On Tuesday at a press conference announced that Acer, a dual-screen multi-touch laptop that, while such a concept computer in the flesh, also try to see how they get the best of both worlds at once. Iconia is a 14-inch laptop with an additional 14-inch screen, where a keyboard would normally, allowing the device is in fact a large version of the Toshiba Libretto, we reviewed a few months ago.

New Dual-screen Acer Iconia laptop

The focus on the Iconia seems to be, “use” the gap between video audio content and normal office productivity, and while the design is bold, remains in serious question its effectiveness. The two gorilla-glass multi-touch displays seem enforced as the iPad panels, with the support for 10-finger to touch the same time.

Really, however, is a touch device useless without a good interface and software support like on HP Compaq Presario CQ62-225NR. The Iconia show some promise. The determination of all 10 fingers on the bottom of the screen automatically starts a virtual keyboard, while an open hand-finger starts Acer’s own wheel such as starting applications. It is futuristic, but perhaps an unnecessary visual splendor.

Iconia is in her heart, a laptop with Core i5 known data: up to 4 GB of DDR3 RAM, integrated Intel graphics, a hard disk up to 750GB, Windows 7 Home Premium. Ports are also typical of a high-end laptop, two USB 2.0, USB 3.0, HDMI and VGA. These twin 1,366 x 768 displays are the heart of the complaint here, and although Acer has some methods of using these displays shown in innovative ways, we’re just not sure that anyone would use a laptop, as is conventional rather than a model or keyboarded a large-screen tablet like an iPad.

No specific availability or price has been announced either – Acer Iconia calls a “concept” device, which it seems to fix the place in the same experimental conditions expensive category, the Toshiba Libretto fell in W105. Most importantly, we do not have a Windows 7 Touch device that’s easy to find really easy or useful. Will Iconia break the mold? We have to wait and see.
