Gateway ID49C11u Review
The Gateway ID49C11u is a slim 14-inch notebook that’s a few tricks up its sleeve, like a glowing mouse pad and 802.11n Wi-Fi has. It has a good performance all around, even with some 3D games.
This notebook from Gateway is a step from their previous laptops getting pretty stale. Instead, the ID49C11u has a slight (just over 5 kg) thin (0.9 inch) computer that a solid design, making it fairly portable with ease.
Gateway, including a 14-inch LED-backlit display with a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels and it works quite well too. Images were very bright and color accuracy was also good. Angle was about average, even with this notebook. The keyboard is Chiclet-style design is very comfortable to use and the keys feel well placed and arranged. The touchpad, as we said earlier lit during the startup process. While clever, we wanted the touchpad had a tactile feel, but this is quite subjective and could be different for other users.

In terms of connectivity, the gateway ID49C11u is pretty loaded, including four USB 2.0 ports, HDMI, VGA, Gigabit Ethernet and standard audio ports. There is also a 4-in-1 memory card reader and an 8x DVD +/-RW optical drive. 802.11b/g/n Wireless connectivity is also included in the laptop.
Technical specifications of the notebook include an Intel Core i5 460M CPU clocked 2.53GHz, 4GB DDR3 RAM and a 500GB hard drive (5,400 rpm, just not 7200). The graphics system is an NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M mentioned that suitable enough to play to most of today’s graphics-intensive 3D games without much trouble. There is also a 1280 x 1024 resolution webcam mounted to the screen. Gateway includes a copy of Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit) with this device.

When we first test a computer, we are always curious to check the amount of “bloatware” or trialware that computer manufacturers install in front of computers. Unfortunately, this comes loaded with a lot of Gateway, including 60-day trial of Norton Internet Security, Windows Live Essentials, Nero Starter (be useful), and ads for things like Netflix and eBay. The desktop is also installed with symbols for things such as instructions and all applications, the pre-covered gateway. Definitely spend some time in the program module of the control panel Windows 7 things that do not use will be removed.
With that said, subjective performance tests came up quite favorably. Performing the usual arithmetic problems were quickly and more intensive tasks like video encoding, were quick as well. As we have, thanks to the nVidia 330M graphics system, said you can do some 3D games with this device.
Battery life is approximately 5 hours, which is pretty good and at or slightly above average compared to similar models.
