Lenovo IdeaCentre A300 Desktop Review

It’s pretty obvious that Lenovo is the design-conscious consumers with the goal A300. It is also obvious that the company has more than a little removed from Apple in the design department. The PC’s 21.5-inch screen is not capable of much more like an iPhone/iPad without adding a Home button on a page. The white, slender frame and Bluetooth peripherals complete the Mac-like appearance. However, the A300 has to manage the best-looking non-Mac-made all-in-one PC we’ve seen, but also a fair bit different look than the current generation iMac. A TV tuner sweetens the system also entertainment capabilities. But as far as features and performance are concerned, the A300 lags well behind its competition AIO in this price range.

First we talk about aesthetics, because the system seems to be the strong suit. The shiny, silver trimmed 1080p screen looks about half an inch thin size, but it is not this system just wow-inducing element. A chrome arm (both swings and tilts), connects the screen to the flat, inch-thick white, glossy, that the lower part A300 is home to the other components. The screen is connected to the PC on the right side, as the center anchored against. And the base instead of a simple rectangle is an off-kilter trapezoid that is wider on the right than the left.

The asymmetrical design and slim profile are certainly striking, but not without some sacrifice. Most importantly, the system has no optical drive that can come as a shock directly to the buyers of Lenovo as the company’s product range page pushes CD/DVD-based software such as Office and Quicken on the way to the checkout. The limited space led to use also Lenovo laptop internals for this desktop PC, a practice that is not unusual AIO machines, but here it leads to performance, although up to the task of video playback, web browsing and implementing Office tasks, significantly lower than similarly priced all-in-one systems, we have seen in recent times.

Before we get the power though, it is worth noting that not disappoint the port selection on the A300. Despite the small size of the bottom section you can find a pair of USB ports, audio jacks and a multi-format (Memory Stick Pro, xD, SDHC, MMC) card reader on the left. The back left corner is equipped with a security slot for locking the system at a desk. Around the back of another pair of USB ports (for a total of only four), as well as FireWire, a TV tuner port, Gigabit Ethernet (802.11g WiFi is also on board) and the network connection. Not surprisingly, given the slim form factor system, the power supply externally.

The real treat rear port, but comes in the form of not one but two HDMI ports. One is HDMI output, for connecting the system to a second monitor or HDTV, while the second-in HDMI, for connecting the screen to a game console, cable box or other device. The HDMI connections make the system a very attractive option for dorm residents or those who just generally cramped for space. Between the TV tuner, PC and HDMI input, this system could easily serve as the sole HD display device. But as our test results show that only the case if your PC needs light, and do not include a lot of gaming on Web-based titles.

In our Cinebench 10 test, which designed all available CPU cores is a tax, could the A300 Core 2 Duo chip is not up to the Athlon CPU in the Gateway One ZX4300-01e. The gateway is an AIO with the same size screen (and a bigger hard drive, even though no TV tuner), which sells for $ 250 less than the Lenovo system. The A300 has 4858, while the Gateway system managed 5389. To see how the transfers in real-time performance word, we ran to test iTunes MP3 to AAC conversion. The A300 turned our 11 files in 4 minutes and 7 seconds, while the Gateway slipped in at 3:40.

Lenovo IdeaCentre A300 Desktop Review

No optical drive and Intel GMA X4500 integrated graphics, to do much more than Flash games with the A300 expected. Again, the gateway system with its ATI Radeon HD 4270, much more powerful, but by no means a powerful gaming system. If you are a gaming-friendly AIO itching, then Lenovo ThinkCentre B500 is the best we have seen so far, although its stealth bombers are aesthetic on the exact opposite of the A300.

In PCMark Vantage, a synthetic test to measure overall system performance, the A300 score of 3565 back behind the Gateway 4457 Demonstration of solid. These differences are not huge, but remember that the Lenovo costs here $ 250 more than the Gateway. For $ 50 more than the asking price of this model, the A300, you can use the larger version of the gateway, the ZX6900, a 23-inch screen, a Blu-ray optical drive and sports a more recent CPU Core i3 what the Gateway almost twice as fast in our tests. There are no words to deny, you make some serious sacrifices for the performance style Lenovo A300 is slim.

Also not working in the favor of Lenovo is a whole lot of bloatware pre-installed, slow boot times by more than a minute on our test system. The most notable culprit here, however, is Lenovo Idea Notes software, which “provides information about product upgrades, offers marketing, product management and security tips”. The only tip we will from the idea in our time with the A300 saw was a pop-ad for a Lenovo laptop that emerged (blissfully rare) after starting. This software is thankfully off easily with a few clicks, but we were not just with the idea of a just purchased desktop is already nagging you to buy another PC configured excited even before you all plastic packaging from the first one . Lenovo Idea Central software, a pre-installed video and news portal, is also filled with offers for software and peripherals.

If you do a lot of typing, you can actually do take Lenovo to offer to the peripheral. The Bluetooth keyboard and mouse combo that came with the system look good and feel solidly built. But the keyboard feels cramped. And we have similar problems in determining the PC with the keyboard, as we did with the ThinkCentre A70z. It took several attempts, the PC to recognize the keyboard to get before the screen pairing eventually turned up, teach us to enter the pairing code. We had no similar problems with the mouse.

Lenovo IdeaCentre A300 Desktop Review

We are sure many people will be impressed by the A300 design. The search for a PC on their white iPhone game will not be disappointed, at least in the style department. And with HDMI in and out ports, this system is a tempting option for those who handle a space-saving PC with a HD screen all entertainment needs. While the A300′s performance does not come close to other all-in-one systems in this price class, it is still suitable for video playback, and productivity tasks with ease (yes, it is of systems that failed the 20 percent less cost ). If you are willing to spend extra for style over substance, then the Lenovo IdeaCentre A300 is a surprisingly advanced PCs we’ve seen. On the other hand, if you are in the Mac-like aesthetics, is also important to note that the initial iMac with its optical drive, much faster processor and Multi-Touch Mouse Magic at just $ 250 more than the A300 will start.

If you like the A300 aesthetics, but they are spending on the search for less, a $ 750 model of the A300 with a smaller hard drive, half the RAM, and no TV tuner at the time of this review is available at Office Depot. The model is also equipped with an older Pentium Dual Core CPU, but it has the same clock rate as the more expensive model. So it is still fast enough for video playback, Web and basic productivity tasks. If you can live without a TV tuner, this model is a better value.

Asus Eee PC 1015PED-MU17

Embrace Mobile Computing in style with the new ASUS Eee PC 1015PED. The 1015PED packs the latest Intel Atom CPU, the N455, which consumes less power than its predecessor, so that the 1015PED to get up to a full 10 hours of battery life.

With built-in 802.11b Wi-Fi, users can stay connected wherever they go. make the 92%-scaled ergonomic keyboard and multi-touch touchpad it a snap to type and navigate through content. The 1015PED’s 250GB hard drive and 500 GB of free WebStorage offer a wealth of storage and backup functions. The 1015PED a rubber keyboard for added style and comfort. ASUS Eee PC 1015PED-MU17 Review

ASUS Eee PC 1015PED-MU17 Review

Asus Eee PC netbooks have become a deafening sometimes diversified range of options, but if they are cooked, most of them almost the same components. Case in point: the Asus Eee PC 1015PED-MU17. For $ 330, this 10.1-inch Netbook a single-core Atom N455 CPU, 1GB of RAM, a 250GB hard drive, and the same long battery life we have come to expect.

However, it lacks the bells and whistles we show in premium netbook, including higher resolution, HDMI output have seen, and HD-accelerated graphics over Nvidia or Broadcom ion solutions. Plus, for only $ 40 more, there is a dual-core atom configuration, the Asus Eee PC 1015PEM, the faster multitasking without effective losses in the battery life offers.

Asus Eee PC 1015PED-MU17

The bottom line is clear: this netbook does not offer anything special, but it does the job. However, you may want to upgrade to the Dual-Core 1015PEM place, unless you prefer to save $ 40.

How many of the previous Eee PC from Asus Netbooks 1015PED has a sleek, teardrop-shaped side profile, wider at the back and tapers to a point at the nose. It is largely the same tapered curved design we’ve seen on most Asus Eee PCs last year or so, especially the 1005PEB, makes it difficult to enthusiasm for a design, raise the other little friends. Smooth surface finish on the back cover and keyboard cover guard against fingerprints, but still give off some ambient glow. The Eee PC line comes in red, blue, white and black, our model had an attractive red, coppery glow, brownish. The back cover is rather thick and entire unit feels solid, even a little tight, but the compact shape feels easy to stow. Having no protruding edges or batteries other than a slight bump on the rear underside is a plus.

The raised edge to edge Chiclet keyboard has responded well to flex and no keys, but smaller than full-size keyboard felt tight after a while. In particular, feeling the tiny wrist below too small for a simple tap round. A large multi-touch touchpad is of the same comfortable matte-smooth lid/palmrest material, and is defined by a thin strip of silver on the left and right, a slight change from previous Eee PC models. The touchpad felt wider and more beautiful than previous models, even with our thumb on the pad while typing more land. A thin plastic button bar below is a bit small but has a solid click.

Above the keyboard a little plastic power button sits on the right side, and a Quick Start button Side-by-side is a Wi-Fi on/off button on the left. Asus Express Gate Cloud Quick-Start-OS is a stripped down environment with its own browser, photo app, and a few other features. Despite its faster boot time, we doubt whether many people with his performance and limited opportunities will be satisfied, most will simply choose to boot Windows and keep the Eee PC in sleep mode between sessions. The 10.1-inch LED display on the mat 1015PED has a maximum resolution of 1,152 x864 pixels, is the highly non-standard and produces a pinched look. The resolution can be tapped up to 1,024 x600 – together for netbooks. We have shows 1366 x 768 10-inch netbook noticed more often, but there are no such luck here. Images engraved view were considered and appropriate for the size and hinge limits of Asus’ cover, but web pages feel tight in this limited resolution.

Asus Eee PC 1015PED-MU17

Stereo speakers, located on the bottom front edge of the Eee PC 1015PED offered louder than average audio actually sounded pretty good for video ads. You are not extravagant musical, but they are definitely good enough for most needs.

Asus chose to add a physical lens cover slider to VGA Webcam, supposedly to make people afraid to protect recorded unknowingly. It seems a little silly and more panic by some people think your webcam is broken when there are only really covered. Regardless, the image quality for basic video chat, but its contrasting dark silhouettes created. Cyberlink YouCam software that can be started from a pull-down software widget on the desktop is on the system and contain links to various Asus cloud storage services, and links.

Netbooks rarely surprised when it regards to connections and features, and the Asus Eee PC does not break form. Three USB 2.0 ports and an SD card slot round off the offer rather, there is only a VGA output for connecting to an external monitor. The Eee PC works via Bluetooth and is, in fact, Bluetooth 3.0-compatible.

Our review model technically an Asus Eee PC 1015P was a very similar Atom N450 CPU. The 1015PED models are now available in an Atom N455 processor, or something faster (and more expensive) N475 CPU and a bump in hard disk capacity from 160 GB to 250 GB. have 1015PED The configuration with the N455 most likely the model we receive. Although the N455 CPU, should gradually offer better results, perform single-core Atom netbooks in a narrow window with really only minor variations between models. It is entirely locally in order for daily tasks and web browsing, and playback of video files, but video streaming is a mixed bag. Embedded video in web browsers such as Hulu and Netflix looked good, but expanded to full screen mode, it tended to stutter frame rate shows what kind of technical but worth seeing choppy conversation.

Asus Eee PC 1015PED-MU17

We’re not really sure how many people are starting to really and truly on a smaller screened Netbook multitasking, but when you think maybe you might want to dual-core Eee PC check 1015PEM instead. It fared no better in single-core tasks, but it was better at multitasking Garner, so it may be worth the extra money on.

The Asus Eee PC 1015PEM six-cell battery lasted 5 hours and 7 minutes on our video playback battery drain test, which is excellent for a netbook. However, note that the dual-core 1015PED was given as good (really strange, a little better).

New Advent Vega £250 tablet

The Advent Vega’s new Android tablet with a 10-inch display available in Dixon of England. It sells for about 250 or $ 396 U.S., a pretty good price, especially by British standards. We get to spend for the first time from the tablet last week and now the folks at Android Community have a chance to spend some time with the advent Vega.

New Advent Vega £250 tablet

The tablet should be for the purchase in a few weeks and the demo model available seems to be pretty much the finished product. It has a 10.1 inch, 1024 x 600 pixels capacitive multi-touch display, a 1GHz processor NVIDIA Tegra T20, 512 MB RAM, 512 MB RAM and a 4GB microSD card and 802.11b g WiFi, Bluetooth and optional 3G modem like on Acer Aspire TimelineX AS5820T-5951. The device runs Google Android 2.2 Froyo.

While most Android phones have Home, Back, Search, and menu buttons, the tablet is back to just one button. There is an ongoing Home icon in the status bar at the top of the screen, but will disappear if you are a full-screen application. It sounds like the hardware and software are promising, but not quite accurate. You can find more pictures and details about Android Community.

The computer has a 1024 x 600 pixels capacitive multi-touch display, a 250GB hard drive, 802.11b g n WiFi, Bluetooth and Ethernet. It has 2 USB ports, a micro-SD card reader, microphone and headphone jacks and a 1.3 megapixel camera. You also get an accelerometer, 2-channel stereo speakers, should be built in microphone and a 4-cell battery, says the CTL for up to 5 hours of good. The 2goPad SL10 weighs only 2.6 pounds and measures 10.3 “x 6.6″ x 0.72 “.

New CTL 2goPad SL10 Windows tablet

CTL sent me a demo unit to test, and so far I have to say I’m pretty impressed. The build quality seems excellent, and you do not know how practical is an accelerometer, until you turn the display on a tray, not the one. The 2goPad also EasyBits Quick software pre-installed, its a bit easier to use when launching favorite applications a bit easier than the Windows 7 Start Menu. On the other hand, some of the animation effects seem a bit sluggish, which I blame on the Atom N450 processor and Intel GMA 3150 graphics like on 21.5″ iMac Intel Core i3 Apple Desktop.

There are a few capacitive buttons on the right side of the screen bezel, built you can adjust the volume, click “OK” and start a “Notebook Manager” app, which provides a quick change of WiFi, Bluetooth and adjust camera or adjust the volume and brightness.

At 2.6 kg, the SL10 is also difficult 2oPad kind. While the ‘sa fairly typical weight for a netbook, the 2goPad no keyboard and is to be held in his hands. It’s definitely much harder than the average paperback, though I think its light on some hardcover textbooks I have seen compared.

CTL provides a special presale on 2goPad SL10. You can pick one up before 20 October for $ 499. After that date the price will go up to $ 599. The company also plans to introduce a Windows 7 Tablet with a 11.6 “display and a 7-inch Tablet Android early next year. I have more information about the 2goPad SL10, after I have had a little more time for testing, but now you can from my first look and unboxing video after the break.

21.5″ iMac Intel Core i3 Apple Desktop Review

The 21.5-inch Apple iMac (Core i3) is the latest version of the entry-level iMac All-in-one desktop. It swaps its previous iteration of the Intel Core Duo 2 CPU and Nvidia integrated graphics for a newer dual-core Intel Core processor and i3 ATI discrete graphics. Apple Updates iMac internal components, but left untouched the outside running with the philosophy “not to seek to repair what is not broken”. The iMac is the system that your friend/relative/partner in one of the Mac can convert believers, and it (still) makes a great base station for the iPod, iPhone, iPad. It has a great design, excellent performance and a reasonable price. For all these reasons and more, the 21.5-inch Apple iMac wins Editors’ Choice for mid-priced all-in-one desktops.

21.5" iMac Intel Core i3 Apple Desktop Review

You need to upgrade to the 27-inch iMac, if you want a Mini DisplayPort input, but the 21.5-inch iMac is still better than other closed all-in-one, which do not have any video output at all . You’ll need an optional adapter for non-mini DisplayPort monitors. It would be nice to have mini DisplayPort input, so you can continue the system of the display when the internal components become too slow to use.

The system lacks an eSATA port, FireWire 800, but more rooted in Mac environments for the moment. There is no internal expansion room to speak, but that is all-in-one desktops expected. Overall, the 21.5-inch iMac (Core i3) defines’ s Design All-in-one desktop PCs. Apple iMac classic look still the design standard to beat.

The 21.5-inch iMac (Core i3), as the new Apple Mac mini (HDMI) is supporting the new SDXC cards in the SD memory card reader. This means it could theoretically read 2TB SDXC card sometime in the future, even though the card type is currently at a still impressive 64GB.

The 21.5-inch iMac (Core i3) still lacks a Blu-ray option, but you can a third-party USB HDTV tuner that works with Mac OS X, you could now perceive the lack of TV tuner or Blu-ray as a disadvantage, but there is also the argument that the iTunes Store is one of the better, more comprehensive sources of HD videos and TV shows on the planet. In any case, the iMac has a large base station for iPod/iPhone/iPad and all your iTunes organized entertainment (music, videos and applications). Apple iMac deserves its reputation, a multimedia-oriented powerhouses, and thanks to its i3 Core processor, the 21.5-inch iMac (Core i3) continues this tradition. If Mac OS X 10.6 test, the 21.5-inch iMac (Core i3) finished the Photoshop CS4 test in 1 minute 48 seconds and Cinebench R10 test with a score of 8687 points. The Core 2 Duo-based Mac mini (HDMI), ended the CS4 test at 3.41 and replaced the previous 21.5-inch iMac (Core 2 Duo), the 1:58-a score was significantly behind that of the iMac 21.5 -inch (Core i3).

The 21.5-inch iMac (Core i3) is even faster in Windows 7 (64-bit) while running Boot Camp. This program is running Windows natively on Apple computers. The iMac was the CS4 test in just 1:22, the extremely fast with other systems such as the MSI Wind Top AE2220 compared complete, which scored 2:21. Even the Core 2 Quad-powered Lenovo ThinkCentre B500, which scored 1.32, could not keep up.

21.5" iMac Intel Core i3 Apple Desktop Review

The iMac shows her skill with the Windows Media Encoder test, the leader in 39 seconds, a second off the B500, the class. The MSI took almost twice as long for the same task (1:08). What is noteworthy is the iMac with its “initial” core i3 beat the Lenovo ThinkCentre M90z, with its fast, mid-range Core i5-650 processor, in the tests.

The last iMac had decent integrated graphics, but it was miserable on 3D gaming tests. The 21.5-inch iMac (Core i3) is capable of both the games playable frame rates is tested: 50 fps for Crysis and 55 fps for World in Conflict (WIC). The 21.5-inch iMac (Core i3) has covered all the green Keywords: EPEAT Gold-free, recycling/take-back program, BFR-/mercury-/arsenic-, decent, plus the system power consumption. It is set for aggressive power savings is running around, while 60W active thread over at about 100W while running Cinebench R10. For all these reasons, but our wins Greentech Approved PCMag review.

Compared with last October’s iMac, the 21.5-inch iMac (Core i3) a better performance all around, and has more state of the art in it. The Lenovo B500 still beat the iMac on features such as HDTV and Blu-ray playback, as both options directly from any Apple. However, the B500 is expensive and there is 5GHz 802.11 a/n Wi-Fi. The B500 has a larger sized screen, but with the same 1920 by 1080 resolution. Both systems can be the older HP Touchsmart 600-1055 in the dust on design, functionality and performance. Although I would still recommend the Lenovo B500 Blu-ray/HDTV enthusiasts and people who like bold styling (it’s chunkier and looks more like a flashy gaming PC), on price and performance of the Apple iMac 21.5-inch base skips the Lenovo B500 as our Editors’ Choice for mainstream/multimedia-oriented all-in-one desktop PCs.
