5-inch Android Tablet from ViewSonic

Seems like ViewSonic taking the tablet PC market pretty seriously as well as Sony VAIO VPCZ128GX. We already know that the company plans a 7-inch Tablet start, along with two 10-inch tablets and now Digitimes reports that ViewSonic, a 5-inch model is planning to add the row.

5-inch Android Tablet from ViewSonic

Specific details of this tablet was not mentioned, and it is not clear whether it will be available worldwide as ViewSonic representative said it will help to meet demand in emerging markets in Southeast Asia. Given that it has been said that 7-inch tablets are a bit too small, you think that a 5-inch tablet would you like?

New OPad N3 Android tablet

It appears as only a few days ago that we spotted new opad N2 tablet from the Chinese appliance manufacturer ONN … probably because it was. Now people with IMP3 have further details about Android tablet from the company, known as N3 opad.

New OPad N3 Android tablet

As the N2, N3, the opad a 7 inch, 800 x 480 pixel display. But while the N2 has a resistive touch screen, the N3-screen is capacitive, ie, it is much more on the input finger tip. The opad N3 also has a faster 1GHz Rock chip RK2818 ARM-based processor. The tablet features WiFi and 3G EVDO mobile broadband capabilities like on Sony VAIO VPCZ128GX and has a SIM card slot. I also think it’s a bit more attractive than the N2, but it’s hard to say if you really only have a few rendered images has to judge.

Sony VAIO VPCZ128GX

The VAIO (R) Z-series laptop – VPCZ128GX – gives you the power and functionality of a larger PC into a durable notebook that weighs just over 3 pounds packaged. From the cheap keyboard with backlight, its Dynamic Hybrid Graphics System delivers power when you need it, this computer has all the features that make for a first-class mobile computing experience. Sony VAIO VPCZ128GX Review

In a universe with $ 300 laptop and $ 600 Netbooks dual-core systems, medium-sized a real high-end product is filled really rare. Apple MacBook Pro and HP Envy laptops will run as a high-end, but usually between $ 1,000 and $ 1,500. In a quite different category as a whole (another universe, too) is Sony Vaio VPCZ128GX, which runs a whopping $ 3,399. Of course, this is for our revamped review unit, which is a very expensive 512GB solid-state drive that could easily fetch $ 1,500 or more includes on its own.

Other high-end features (use with a handy app for easy to create a Wi-Fi hot-spot for your other gadgets) a Verizon 3G connection, an Nvidia GeForce 300 GPU and a higher standard than the 1,600 x900 pixels resolution for the 13-inch display.

Sony VAIO VPCZ128GX

Although this is an ultra premium laptop with an excellent design and construction, we can non-Optimus Sony’s graphics switching, which uses a manual switch and is not as seamless as one would expect for the upset price.

The slim case is a mix of brushed metal and magnesium, which feels for a final product, light but durable at the same time. Equally important, it feels like a plastic-free high-end product (although these prices, we would certainly, I hope). The latest Vaio Z we looked at had black keys to a silver finish that did not look nearly as smooth as the all-dark model.

Sony typical raised-island-keyboard is excellent, although the real key are the faces on the small side. Important keys such as Shift and Tab are nice and big, and we found no major problems with the keyboard layout. The backlit keys are a useful feature, but we have now expect as standard in laptops over $ 1,000. The Vaio Z’s touch pad is also excellent and has plenty of space and small, but effective, left and right mouse buttons are separated with a fingerprint reader.

Above the keyboard on the left is a three-way switch, turn off the Nvidia GeForce graphics or 330 revolutions. Unfortunately, in the six months since we last saw our Sony Vaio Z has (which had a similar switch), Nvidia Optimus technology is incorporated in the budget systems. Optimus is working behind the scenes, automatically, the discrete GPU, and as necessary, completely invisible to end users. It generally works great, and it is a great shock that this Vaio is not included.

The settings on the physical switch itself is “Speed” and the word “endurance”, and what the switch actually, if you are not familiar with the concept of switchable graphics can be confusing. There is also a third position, “Auto” means that the GPU down when you pull the laptop on. With the switch can force you to quit programs, and will scroll off the screen makes that avoids all the problems Nvidia Optimus.

Three quick-launch buttons above the keyboard sit on the right. You start an integrated suite of Sony support resources and troubleshooting apps and easy access to technical support contact information. The second is user-friendly transferable, and the third, Sony Media Software Gallery, a collection of media organization and playback tools.

The 13.3-inch widescreen LED display has a 1,600 x900 pixel native resolution. Most systems have 13-inch displays 1,366 x 768 pixels, but you can configure the Vaio Z with an even higher 1,920 x 1080-pixel screen, although at this level, text could be difficult on the 13-inch display to read.

The Vaio Z is the standard set of ports and connections for a 13-inch laptop, but with $ 3,000, we would expect a Blu-ray drive (it is an add-on available, however). We are excited about the built-in mobile broadband Verizon. It is a common feature enough, but Sony SmartWi connection utility contains a very handy button for recording, the 3G signal and share it as a mobile hotspot, like a MiFi work unit. You can actually do this with pretty much any laptop, but it requires some setup under the hood, and it does not always work properly.

Sony VAIO VPCZ128GX

The 2.4 GHz Intel Core i5 M520 CPU in this system is typical of the high-end components of the mainstream, and it is at par with other Intel Core i5 laptops that say it is more than strong enough for all, but the most demanding applications. We ran into no slowdown or stuttering, even when working on multiple projects simultaneously, which is partly due to the included 8GB of RAM.

With the Nvidia GeForce 330 GPU is involved, we have 57.3 frames per second in Unreal Tournament 3 runs to 1,440 x900 pixels. This is a respectable mid-range gaming laptop, but not for hard-core PC gamers. However, it should handle all current games, even if you turn down some detail or resolution must.

Battery life is the key to mobility like-minded 13-inch laptops, but the Vaio Z fell slightly behind other systems of this size, much less expensive. Though the Vaio Z ran for 3 hours and 41 minutes on our video playback battery drain test. Toshiba Portege R705 and the HP Envy both ran about 15 minutes longer, and of course, is Apple’s 13-inch MacBook Pro will run for about 2 hours more, and still the king of the 13-inch laptops.

Sony includes an industry-standard one-year warranty on parts and labor with the system that includes intelligent on-site service. Support through a 24-7 toll-free telephone line, and an online knowledge base and driver downloads on the Internet. The included support software, accessed via a quick-start button on the keyboard tray, connects directly with diagnostic tools, online resources, and troubleshooting tips.

Gateway ZX6900-01E Desktop Review

With a Blu-ray drive, touchscreen and an impressive selection of ports, justified in the Gateway One ZX6900-01E its price premium of about $ 600-800 a standalone desktop. Nevertheless, some drawbacks that prevent them outshine higher rated systems in the mid-priced all-in-one category. It’s a solid system, but feel cheap, given its bloatware and competing in all companies offer more for your money.

Gateway ZX6900-01E Desktop Review

Design

The ZX6900-01e, which is about 20 measures 24 by 4 inches (HWD), it looks like the gateway ZX6810-01 that I checked out last year. It comes in the same glossy black case with a 23-inch monitor front and center, looking much like an HDTV display. The touch screen has a glossy surface, which is good for color accuracy, but has an annoying mirror effect that casts reflections on the screen. If you are sitting right in front of the device, it will even reflect back on your face while you are working on the desktop.

The system has the slot-loading optical drive on the right side, and this time it’s a Blu-ray player/DVD burner. This is a great feature, and it addresses a major deficiency of the previous generation Gateway One systems. The system comes with a wireless keyboard and mouse, which I expect in this price class, but the keyboard has a spongy feel, not something you want if you pay for a premium desktop. The keyboard and mouse share a tiny USB transceiver that takes up a system of six USB 2.0 ports. The ambient lighting system that illuminates the surface of the bezel between the user and the computer, so you can see what you are typing in a darkened room. This function is useful and should be on all-in-one desktop standard. A switch on the right side of the system turns the lights on or off. The system has an external power supply, which obviously necessary, the system is slim to get lines straight. But leaner systems like the Apple iMac 21.5″ have internal power supplies, which caused so ZX6900-01e power bricks loose from the system.

The ZX6900-01e has many ports in the back and on the page, including the aforementioned six USB 2.0 ports (five free), eSATA port, HDMI port, the usual audio ports and a digital media card reader. The HDMI port you can hook up an additional monitor for extended desktop or mirroring, you use all the usual advantages of dual-monitor. It would have been nice if it were an HDMI input as well as this is the life of the monitor when the system inevitably expand too slowly. The power switch is improved, it is now on the front of the system and the international symbol of power, whereas the previous version was not selected.

Features

The ZX6900-01e is ready for high-resolution photo and video enjoyment. can show the 1080p HD (1,920 by 1,080) resolution of the 23-inch screen, all the glorious pixels of Blu-ray movies or HD video on the Internet. The ZX6900-01e missing the previous generation gateway ZX6810-01′s TV Tuner, but adds the Blu-ray player. I think it’s a fair assessment, especially given the ZX6900-01e is almost $ 300 less expensive. The ZX6810-01also had a 64GB SSD drive that is a negligible option in systems like these. The older ZX6810-01 and a 1 TB data drive, the ZX6900-01e did not suffer too much with a smaller 640GB drive. However, you need the extra space if you used the system as a DVR with a TV tuner.

Gateway ZX6900-01E Desktop Review

The system is Windows 7 Touch-Enhanced interface for use with the touchscreen. For example, the window close buttons much larger, allowing them to touch more easily with the fingers. Gateway has installed prior to its Touch UI portal that leads to touch the new user. Touch-Portal has a skin for Internet Explorer, making it easier for out with the fingers. The screen supports two-finger multitouch, you learn that Microsoft can use the Touch Pack. Try it with two fingers enlarge and shrink the included Microsoft Surface Globe: It’s pretty addictive zooming to see your neighborhood up close. The touch-Portal is a second to get two working for the first time you start the system, but after that it’s not so bad. Although I think, touch computing is a possible future user interfaces, the current crop of touch applications are mostly tech demos at this point. Touch screens are nice to have, but they are by no means a must-have at this time.

Like all consumer-grade gateway systems, the ZX6900-01e comes with a selection of bloatware. The usual suspects include Office 60-day trial of Norton Internet Security 60-day trial and gateway games (Wild Tangent). New this time is the Best Buy Software Installer, a program that allows you to store programs on your new PC. When Best Buy was the only program on the system, I would be happy. Hopefully, in addition to removing the preinstalled bloatware trend that HP is including similar Installer programs in their systems. Dell has already moved to the online distribution model.

Performance

As you would suspect from the ZX6900-01e’s quad-core Intel Core i3-530 processor and exceeded 4 GB DDR3-1333 memory, the system’s performance in our multimedia benchmark tests. It was in a position to our Windows Media Encoder test to be completed in 42 seconds (less than a minute is what you are looking for), and only 1 minute 35 seconds for free on our Photoshop CS4. Similarly, the system of day to day performance was very good, with a 5995 score on PCMark Vantage.

This compares well to similarly expensive systems like the 21.5″ iMac, which lasted 49 seconds stop the WME test, although the iMac a smidge faster at the CS4 test (1:32) is. The Editors’ Choice winning Lenovo ThinkCentre B500 was the fastest in the entire multimedia tests (0:38 WME, 1:32 CS4).

Gateway ZX6900-01E Desktop Review

With the integrated Intel GMA HD graphics, the system had some problems when playing 3D games like Crysis and World in Conflict, again slow, unplayable scores. Poor gaming performance is not too much of a concern for the HD-video games, multimedia maven, that this system is aimed at. For a reasonable price, take a look at Lenovo B500, it was playable scores of 56 frames per second (fps) at 46 fps in Crysis and World in Conflict.

The Gateway One ZX6900-01e is certainly an attractive touch-sensitive all-in-one desktop PC. It is much cheaper than its predecessor, and adds Blu-ray into the mix. However, the alternatives are more attractive on several fronts: If you are a business do all-in-one PC, the Lenovo ThinkCentre M90z is a good choice for a similar price and commercial Blu-ray for business-friendly features as a webcam with a cover.

The major competition to this system is our current Editors’ Choice for mainstream all-in-one PCs, the Lenovo B500. The B500 does not have the Gateway screen, HDMI connection and is around $ 200 more expensive, but it has other features that make it worth the effort was. But the Lenovo B500-screen and bezel are less shiny (the screen is somewhere between matt and glossy), so there are fewer distractions when you watch TV. The B500 has much better performance on both 3D and multimedia tasks, feel and just overall better. It has a higher build quality, a bigger hard drive, much less bloatware, unique design and a multi-function motion control remote. The build-fast performance, larger hard drive and a better quality ensures that the B500 takes longer than primary (or secondary) desktop. The ZX6900-01e has its disadvantages can still bloatware and cheesy keyboard. Therefore, the Gateway One is ZX6900 is a relatively inexpensive all-in-one system with HD video, but the dollar savings over other alternatives do not seem worth it.

How to get the ultimate TV set up

So you’ve finally saved up enough to get the TV you’ve always wanted – a large flat screen LCD TV, or was it a
Plasma TV
? Maybe if you saved really hard you even managed to get a 3DTV that will take movie watching to the next level. However, buying your TV is just the first step in creating the ultimate home cinema experience. Now you’ll need to get the set up just right, and that means considering everything from the placement of your TV to buying the right accessories to go with it. It might seem like a lot of effort, but it’s worth it – once you’ve got your home cinema set up, you’ll wonder how you ever lived without it.

How to get the ultimate TV set up

The first thing to think about is how you are going to position the TV in your living room. Most people opt for a stand or dedicated cabinet for their TV, which is more than adequate. However, for the ultimate in cinematic viewing, you can’t beat a wall-mounted flat screen television. Wall-mounting is not an easy process, and you should probably get an experienced fitter to do it for you. First of all, you need to get a mount that fits your set properly. Most TV manufacturers make mounting brackets to fit their various models, so you’re usually better off going for one of these rather than a generic version. When buying the mount, you also have to take into account the type of wall you’ll be drilling into. If the wall is solid, you can drill right into in for a secure fit. However, if you are mounting to a stud wall – a wall with timber framework covered by non-load bearing plaster board – you have to attach the mount to one of the supporting timbers, or it will all come crashing down. Although more tricky to place correctly, the advantage of mounting to a stud wall is that you can run the TV cables down the inside of the wall, with an exit point somewhere near the plug socket.

With the TV wall-mounted, your next consideration should be how to complement it with accessories. Although most integrated TV speakers do a good job of handling sound, there is nothing quite like the immersive audio of a surround sound system. The main thing to think about is where the speakers are going to go – you’ll have between 6-8 speakers to place, depending on the quality of the system. Although some of the speakers – the subwoofer for example – are intended to be placed at floor level, the best method of ensuring clear, evenly-dispersed sound is to wall mount the speakers. As with the television itself, you have to make sure that the speakers are securely fitted, and you have to think about where the wires are going to go – a stud wall again has its benefits in this respect.

How to get the ultimate TV set up

Finally, to complete your set up, you should think about buying a good Blu-ray disc player. If your TV is one of the new 3D models, then make it a 3D Blu-ray player which will allow you to make full use of your TV’s capabilities. Blu-ray offers an unparalleled high-definition audio-visual package, so if you want to experience movies at their most enthralling, Blu-ray is the only option.

With all this in place, you will have a home cinema set up that is a match for most movie theaters. It takes a bit of work, but once it’s done, you can sit back, relax and enjoy your favourite movie from the comfort of your favourite chair!

This article was written by Simon Wallace, a writer and 3D TV enthusiast. Simon has owned many different flat screen models over the years, and recently upgraded to his first 3D television, Panasonic’s industry-leading TX-P50VT20.

Dell announces upscale XPS notebooks

Dell today surpassed his high-end notebooks on Thursday with a new XPS line. The systems are all more refined with aluminum lid and palm rests, and they now carry JBL 2.1-channel speaker and the first official green light from Webcams Skype. Its graphics Optimus live switching and 3DTV games over HDMI are both core functions and some models support Intel’s WiDi (Wireless Display) for video to move without wires.

Dell announces upscale XPS notebooks

Unlike most model lines of the Dell XPS series is now a common specification, usually with a screen size is primarily dictated the price focused. The 14-inch XPS-14, 15.6-inch XPS 15 and 17.3-inch XPS 17 all start with a 2.4 GHz Intel Core i5, 4GB RAM, a 500GB hard drive and a DVD burner. The two smaller models are equipped with GeForce 420M graphics to a minimum, while the higher resolution will land a faster GeForce 435m like on Samsung Q430.

Options to move up to 1.86 GHz Core i7 chips and Quad, on the XPS 17, up to a GeForce 445m with a very large 3GB of graphics memory, as much as 16 GB of RAM and up to 1.28TB of storage on two drives. Smaller systems stop the GeForce 435, 8 GB RAM and a single drive. Dell known RGB-LED-display option is retained, as well as a pick for Blu-ray. All systems are spread from now on a tight pricing. The XPS 15 is the least expensive of the mixture at $ 850, while the XPS-14′s rare display there was a higher price $ 900. The XPS line 17 leads with a $ 950 price.

Macbook Air 11.6-inch 1.4GHz 64GB

The new 11.6-inch MacBook is a notebook that many Apple users have been waiting for. Although it is not perhaps the most impressive overall product information, it provides snappy performance for use with everyday applications. Mail, Safari, iChat, and iTunes all work to load smoothly and quickly, so it must go a very useful tool for users, the mobility and functionality on the. While it might have been nice to have 3G connectivity built in, it would only mean yet another data plan for Apple iPhone and iPad users suffering data plan fatigue. The opportunity to network connected only if they occur on the road actually be a blessing.

Macbook Air 11.6-inch 1.4GHz 64GB

There is plenty of room on the palm rest to the input of the full-size keyboard is a breeze. While the screen is smaller, the display of high quality and produces sharp text and equivalent job to a typical 13-inch laptop for its high-res, 1366×768 display. The new glass trackpad is working fine and is more than sufficient.

The only aspects that are a little disappointing is the lack of keyboard illumination and the fact that it does not use Intel’s newest generation of Core i series chips, but a previous generation Core 2 Duo CULV. Although, as already mentioned, the performance is more than adequate, it’s just nice to have more than a grunt processing needs. Then again, would Apple had to sacrifice to increase graphics performance and have the asking price. As it stands, the new Macbook Air affordable, desirable, and a portable device. In the past there were not too many ultra-portable notebooks such as Samsung Q430 that could be described that way was.

MSI to launch dual core netbook soon

It was clear MSI boasting Google Android powered tablets together with the best of them at CES in January 2010. But the prototype is not just all work well, and the company reiterated plans to actually take place to bring the tablet moved. Now it looks like you might wait until March 2011 to get your hands on the MSI Wind pad. Digitimes reports that the company is only after Google launched Android 3.0 to wait for the 10-inch Tablet Pad wind release. It will probably via USB and HDMI port sand cost less than $ 500. MSI is probably a demo at the CES show in January.

MSI to launch dual core netbook soon

French Website Blogeee some new rendered images of an MSI Wind tablet a few days ago, although not clear whether they represented to the final design. Meanwhile, it looks like MSI is still debating whether a 10-inch tablet to start with an Intel processor and Windows 7 operating system. DigiTimes also reports that MSI to introduce its first netbook as well as Samsung Q430 with a dual-core processor in November. I suspect this is the updated version of the MSI Wind U160 with Intel Atom N550 processor, we heard last month.
