Lenovo Ideapad Y560d Review

The 3D stereoscopic laptop race consists of two technologies vying for a piece of that small cake made. There are the active shutter method that Nvidia has a large share of the preferred and appears 3D package in laptops. And then there are the polarized method, a cheaper alternative, used by a company called TriDef. The Lenovo IdeapPad Y560D, the latter, accompanied by some heavy parts. An Intel quad-core processor and high-performance ATI graphics performance and gaming enthusiasts cut, although the battery life has been hampered by the same part. With so much money at stake, though, I would rather you get the version with the Blu-ray drive instead of the superfluous 3D function.

Design

As if was not a glossy plastic chassis sticky enough, it even made the Y560D sticky by tattooing a large purple sticker on the lid. It clashes with the piano-black finish, while pickup fingerprints and smudges on the road. It lacks the elegance of the aluminum clad. Despite its insipid appearance is the 6.1-pound backpack Y560D more friendly than his colleagues.

The 15-inch widescreen makes the “D” in the product name as it is no ordinary screen. It is a polarized screen 3D technology TriDef’s, where users 3-D effects, based on by seeing the pair of polarized 3D glasses. The 3D glasses look like a pair of knock-off sunglasses from China Town (there are also a few 3D clip-ons for those who wear prescription glasses, like me). It is not battery operated or requires it connected a USB receiver. As a result, the 3D technology is less sophisticated, and multi-dimensional content is not as convincing as the active shutter method. The weak lines are not visible in the conduct of day to day tasks on the laptop.

There are nuances, such as 3D content is considered by using the method polarized. Compatible games, images and video content within proprietary software TriDef’s start, it’s not as simple as double clicking on any application and expect 3D, just work, which is how the active shutter method does. The 3D view on the Y560D are so limited that you can understand how you sit, to give full effect to obtain information received, such as the Asus G51J 3-1B, which is opposite immersive from several angles.

Once you move past the 3D gimmicks, you appreciate Y560D much more. First, know Lenovo, which brings with it the ideal user interface. The full-size keyboard is the traditional kind, not the style of the popular Chiclet with other laptops. It is a well-shaped keyboard with each key with a deep, solid answer. A wide touchpad and soft, quiet mouse buttons the finishing touches to a near-perfect user experience.

Features

For the same amount of money to replace Lenovo is the 3D display with a Blu-ray drive that is the direction I would lean. Alternatively, the standard DVD burner (which my test unit came with) is not as fancy, but you save $ 100. The JBL speakers are prominent features on this laptop, since they are very high and the low (bass), end sound. The Y560D has all the important ports, including 4 USB 2.0, eSATA, HDMI, VGA and Ethernet. It comes with a large 500GB, 7,200 rpm hard drive, but more importantly, it is a fast moving one, the laptop-performance components added.

Performance

The internal components contribute most of the costs, as you get the best component technology. The Intel Core i7 720QM is a quad-core processor and one of the fastest in the industry, while the ATI Mobility Radeon 5730 graphics chip can bulldoze over any 3D game. This combination, unfortunately, significant quantities are pumped to heat, especially on the left side of the notebook. The Y560D produce a video encode in 50 seconds, about as fast as the HP dv7-4083cl (46 seconds) and Asus G51J 3-1B (50 seconds). But since video encoding is a single-threaded test, it’s not really enjoy the full functionality of a quad-core processor. The Cinebench R10 (10 320) and Photoshop CS4 (25 seconds) tests, on the other hand, the tests, multithreading and the Y560D reached through the roof.

The Y560D gaming chops is the peak between desktop replacement such as the HP dv7-4083cl, Samsung R540-11 and Asus G51J 3-1B. There is a better gaming machine than known ones like the Alienware M11x (Core i7).

With the help of these parts has its drawbacks, though. In addition to heat, battery life of Y560D scored 2 hours 43 minutes in MobileMark 2007, which was not very impressive. It could have been worse, however.

Lenovo Ideapad Y560d

The Lenovo IdeaPad Y560D can not excel as a 3D laptop, but it is aggressive enough price so that you are getting a good deal on all other parts. However, these parts for users who prefer speed and power battery life aligned. So here are your options: If you are gung-ho about 3D laptops, then I would go with the active shutter method, used by companies such as go Asus, Toshiba and Acer. If you are still interested in the Y560D for characteristics other than 3D, but you are better to go with the configurations that have the Blu-ray drive. Better yet, the HP Pavilion dv7-4083cl, our Editors’ Choice for desktop-replacement category, type and the desired battery life.
