Samsung P2770HD Multifunction LCD Monitor Review
TV or computer display? You decide. Samsung SyncMaster P2770HD uses the blurring between supersized monitors and televisions of miniature turning a 27-inch 1080p LCD panel in both. With the input and specs of a PC display and the tuner and styling of a TV, we found it managed to borrow some of the best features of both, even if a few of our favorite frills – such as swivel, USB inputs and picture-in image – went missing in the process.
Features
Because TV in this size would normally come in 720p resolution, the Panel decided Samsung SyncMaster 2770HD provides for more like it came from the monitor side of the supply chain as the TV side. If you go to connect to a PC or Blu-ray player, you have your choice of inputs, including VGA, one DVI, one HDMI and component and composite video. Because a PC is not sent audio signals via the HDMI port, there is a separate stereo jack for the connection of PC audio, and a digital S/PDIF input. A standard coax connector has room for an antenna, and you’ll find a headphone jack on the back and buried. You will also spot a USB socket, but it is to update the firmware only.
Unfortunately, the P2770HD no more than any video connection, and there are no side panel with easy access to the ports – such as the headphone jack, making it a definite. Design
Since most manufacturers are content himself with a few tack strips around their LCDs gloss black and call it a day, Samsung’s P2770HD is very close in a class by itself.
The display shrinks the stylish “Touch of Color” design on many of the late-model Samsung HDTVs on the desktop, where it even easier, the subtle nuances that distinguish this design found to appreciate. Make no mistake, the Samsung P2770HD has with many of the same features and comforts you would expect to find on a TV in the same price range. Perhaps the only real missing: picture-in-picture that would be convenient to take advantage of the tuner, while still with the desktop.
Picture and video quality
For each ad to draw two-in-one-inch, 27 inch screen turns out to be a practical sweet spot. While dot pitch (how closely the pixels are packed) is relatively loose in this size, we had no problems with text or images, looking overly stretched or pixelated on the 2770HD, even if he is as a monitor of about two meters away.
Text, images and movies, all gazed at the splendor P2770HD, with more vivid colors and clearly brighter whites than many of the ads, we have reviewed recently, such as Acer P244W is. Although 5ms refresh time for this type of display are standard, we found it perfectly adequate for a rapid movement in video games and action movies, such as the high-def trailer for The Expendables. Black levels are not the best we have ever seen, but they are not particularly bad, or noteworthy.
As TV, high-def look 1080i signals razor sharp on the P2770HD, and fight it, even the standard-def signals in highly watchable material, although we have some loans that at his relatively small size of TV, hide help give blockiness artifacts and where larger TVs are only used them to blow up even bigger. Verdict
For a dorm room, small apartment, kitchen or other living situation, where can a TV and computer monitor easily share the same picture, Samsung makes a viable P2770HD go of combining the two. While the absence of some common gadgets like a TV stand and rotating picture in picture would be welcome, excellent image quality, a powerful menu system and an extremely attractive housing for all Samsung’s All-in-one talk-prodigy. You’ll certainly pay a small premium over a tunerless 27-inch monitor, but the savings from the combination of two units in one should justify the cost if you can really take advantage.
