Asus Rampage III Extreme Intel X58 Review

The Republic of Gamers motherboard from Asus always have the power of kings was their product catalog, and as such has always had a pretty high price premium to beat them. They are not only great performance products, they also come with all the bells and whistly things you wish could, in a board. In short, the ROG mobos are the money’s-no-object parts that you throw in your computer if you never ask how much they cost. The vast X58-based Rampage Extreme III (R3E), then definitely fits, but it’s not a board that you can just throw in a PC to instantly make it faster.

It is designed to be the overclockers’ motherboard of choice. We do not just talk the kind of person who wants a few extra FPS in your favorite shooter, oh no. This board is for people with a preference for liquid nitrogen and names as sno.lcn and Sf3d designed.

The R3E has a specific mode stops LN2 overclocking jumper zero temperatures when the cold-boot the CPU bug contribution at such low temps helps. In general, you should warm to the CPU before implementation, but the LN2-mode allows the heavy liquid nitrogen Overclocker continue.

There are also specific points for the measurement of voltage, which is done in separate bits of the system, from the CPU to PCIe and beyond.

There is now also a Bluetooth connection, to boot, monitor reset, and overclock from a compatible mobile phone can be. Granted, you either have a Windows Mobile 6.1/6.5 2.0 or Android device, but it is an interesting evolution from the BIOS screen.

But this is an incredibly niche market because there are very few of us who really need this kind of extreme overclocking capabilities. This is not a mass market board, which is a board brought in high-end, prefabricated, pre-overclocked systems, worth thousands. This is a board to win Overclocking events, the numbers higher than for other producers to to associate humans with the fastest Asus motherboards, to make on the planet and hope that the trickle-down effect keeps people loyal.

Well, if you is our experience of this board then it might only be representative. There is nothing special to begin stock speeds, but to play and the board moves away from the competition.

We paired with a correspondingly expensive chip, the Core i7 980X Six-core monster, and we were a 1GHz overclock plus without a sweat. The board has Intel Extreme we tested the chip with the last issue hardly get to 3.9GHz without tipping over when the R3E hit 4.4GHz in no time.

If the X58 overclockers’ board, the Rampage Extreme III want is where it’s at. But you have to remortgage the house and sell the children, if you want the kind of setup to do it justice …

AMD Phenom II X6 1090T Black Edition review

Having witnessed the enormous computing power of Intel Core i7-980X, we were stuck with only one problem – its just awesome Asking price of 800. Only weeks later, AMD can ride to the rescue of those that Six-core performance, but who can not afford to spend the price of a brand new PC in a single chip.

The Phenom II X6 1090T is the first and most powerful of the Six-Core AMD’s line up despite these costs only a fraction of the price of the 980X at 240 including VAT. As the Phenom II name suggests, but this chip has a very similar architecture of the company’s current range of processors.

AMD Phenom II X6 1090T Black Edition review

He still uses a 45nm manufacturing process, compared to the 980X is more efficient 32nm process. Of course, there are two additional cores here, each with its own 512 KB L2 instruction cache. It remains the shared L3 cache to 6MB, the same as on Phenom X4 chips. This means there is less cache per processor, although the common nature of the cache should mean that this is not a huge handicap when it comes to the types of tasks, the parallel processing of multi-core chips in Excel.

An important new feature AMD Core Turbo Technology. This works similarly to Intel’s Turbo Boost, introduced at its LGA1156 Core processors i3 / i5 / i7. The AMD version is less flexible, however. It is listed on its clock speed in the use of all six cores, but can clock speeds up to 400MHz by disabling increase of these three. This is a dynamic system less than Intel’s, which can increase with any number of cores, a balance between promoting among all cores, as long as total heat is kept within certain limits.

In our testing, unfortunately we have never seen any signs of Turbo Core at work – despite trying with two different motherboards, playing with the BIOS settings, and consultations with other publications at Dennis. We have tried to move a number of programs to monitor the clock speed, but not through the usual 3.2 GHz.

AMD Phenom II X6 1090T Black Edition review

When you consider the lack of turbo-core, benchmark results were expected on what we do. X4 It was about as fast as the fastest Phenom in our single-threaded imaging test, but pulled away in multi-threaded applications such as video encoding our test with an impressive 139, compared to the Phenom X4 955 of the 123

It is powerful if it the right task, but also in video encoding with some of Intel’s quad-core chips is beaten. A Core i7-860, for example, scores 164 in this test, not least because of its Hyper-Threading, which the number of addressable wires can see the operating system, but it doubled less cost around 220 including VAT. A total score of 125 does not justify the price, if it’s X6 with other processors in comparison either. A core i5 750 can be bought for under 150, and scores a total of 139 in our tests.

If you have an AMD 7-series board, you must check with the manufacturer to see if a BIOS update is available. If so, and you need more parallel multi-core processing power, then one would upgrade a chip X6 stress. However, you will not get much better performance overall and also in multi-core tasks is not so much faster than far cheaper X4 processors.

If you need to buy a new motherboard to go with your X6, then forget it. In this case, we would recommend switching to Intel and building a Core i7-i5 or PC instead, since it is faster and cheaper.

Acer eMachines EZ1601-01 Desktop Review

In the past we have found it difficult to argue for the all-in-one Intel Atom-powered nettop, mainly because they have usually set well over $ 500. This brings them close to the price of entry-level traditional All-in-one PCs like the Dell Studio One 19 or the Lenovo IdeaCentre A600, which provide much-more-powerful components and a similar size screen. But at $ 399, the eMachines EZ1601-01 is far enough from other all-in-ones to make it attractive as a second PC for places where space is tight. During his performance a bit lagging behind other Nettops we’ve tested, it is still capable of dealing with basic Web browsing and light productivity. We just would not recommend it as a primary PC.

Acer eMachines EZ1601-01 Desktop Review

Aesthetically, the EZ1601-01-not stunning, but then eMachines systems are rare. His front legs and curved front kickstand-like back leg up to do a good job of keeping the system without much space. And the integrated 18.5-inch, 1,366 x 768 display looks as good as other integrated displays we’ve seen in other low-cost all-in-one systems. The power button, adorned with the eMachines logo sits below the screen in the middle and lit with a green glow when the system is turned on.

On the left side of the EZ1601-01 is the standard array of ports, including two USB ports, headphone and microphone jacks, and a flash card slot, SD, MultiMedia Card, Memory Stick and Memory Stick Pro handles media. The first two buttons allow you to adjust the screen brightness, but, like the Averatec All-In-One Nettop, it has only five levels to choose from, not a continuum. On the right side is a tray-loading DVD RW drive.

Around back, the ports are mounted vertically, down, as on many monitors. This makes connecting difficult, but in view of the entire PC weighs only 9 pounds, it is fairly easy to flip on its head. This makes the access to the three additional USB ports, power plug, Gigabit Ethernet port, audio-out port and PS/2 keyboard and mouse a lot easier. (The bundled periphery of the PS/2 variety, they will not occupy any USB ports.) The built-in speakers are not great, but they are no worse than on other budget all-in-ones. If you watch DVDs or listen to music on plan, we would recommend some decent inexpensive external speakers. Integrated 802.11b/g wireless network is also included.

Acer eMachines EZ1601-01 Desktop Review

The internal components, including a 160 GB hard drive, 1GB of RAM, an Intel Atom N270 processor and integrated Intel GMA 950 graphics are pretty standard for a current nettop PC. But while these specifications are almost identical with those of the Averatec All-in-one PC and the ViewSonic VPC100 we reviewed recently, could not quite keep up eMachines system with them in our performance tests.

On our CPU-centric Cinebench 10 test, the eMachines EZ1601-01 scored only 545, which is not much lower than the ViewSonic system score of 549, but a good piece below the Averatec score of 810th The eMachines system lasted 19 minutes and 40 seconds on our test iTunes convert more than 10 seconds more fully than any of the other two systems. And in our Windows Media Encoder 9 test, took the eMachines system, a toe-tapping 23 minutes and 38 seconds. This is slow only nine seconds as the ViewSonic VPC100, but well behind the Averatec time of 20 minutes and 50 seconds.

The eMachines PC’s test results were lower than the competition, but not dramatically. This is important since both the ViewSonic VPC100 and sell the Averatec All-In-One PC now for about $ 150 more. In general use, the system has eMachines feel a little slower in opening and closing programs, as other Nettops we’ve tested. But the fact is that all these nuclear-powered devices are slow in comparison with systems that conventional desktop processors and more memory to have.

We think the eMachines system significantly lower price more than worth the slight drop in performance, since the Nettops are not for nothing as the light of productivity and designed to surf the Internet. If you are an all-in-one in the market for a budget to meet these responsibilities, the eMachines EZ1601-01 is the best option at this time, at least until the prices of other all-in-one nettop dip closer to $ 400 .

Reports on the loss of notebooks are grossly exaggerated

Chief Brian Dunn, Best Buy today reversed course, that the claims IPAD cut notebook sales in the half of its branches to. In a statement, he “saw shifts in consumption patterns” in the direction of the Apple Tablet, but characterized it more as an “incremental opportunity” when the market re-defined shift first thought was to be. He did not blame the WSJ Misquoting him but compared his view of Mark Twain’s notebooks after the legendary false obituary.

Reports on the loss of notebooks are grossly exaggerated

“Reports on the loss of these devices are grossly exaggerated,” Dunn said.

The new setting will change the occupation of a former Morgan Stanley report that Dunn’s previous statements as evidence had in mind, but it does not necessarily change the views that IPAD is taking away sales of traditional notebooks such as Dell Inspiron 14R, netbooks in particular. NPD data showed notebook dropped rapidly, with sales growth in the U.S. since its launch in April IPAD and swung with a decrease in August.

Apple hardware is not necessarily the only factor, as economic concerns may have dampened spending. Netbooks have been slow to see big performance boosts and their owners have few reasons to buy upgrades.

Dell Inspiron 14R Review

For mainstream laptops, where is the Dell Inspiron is one of the most popular products on the market. Traditionally available in a variety of configurations with many optional features and a flexible pricing, the Inspiron serves as Jack of all trades between laptops, but is not a master of all in all.

The Dell Inspiron 14R is a slightly new design iteration of the regular Inspiron series, slim with some touches and colors that make it a bit more like a Studio series laptop. While these changes are largely cosmetic, the overall impression of the new Inspiron is slightly better than what came before.

Dell Inspiron 14R

Available in a variety of configurations ranging from 14 inches to 17 inches and at prices from low to slightly high-end, ready to see the landscape of Inspiron laptops R, user, cover a broad middle range. Our Inspiron 14R, a 14-inch laptop with an Intel Core i3 processor and ATI Radeon HD 5470 dedicated graphics, a good all-round machine for a mainstream user to a relatively reasonable price of $ 800. We have seen some better values from manufacturers such as Samsung, but at least, the Inspiron is not overpriced.

Like the previous Dell Inspiron, the plastic materials dominate on the Inspiron R. The outer cover and palm rest area of an internal substantially metallic brushed metal veneer, but it is just that, as they are plastic, too. The R comes in a metallic Mars Black, and for $ 40 extra, you can get in Peacock Blue, Tomato Red, and Pink Promise. The shiny material does not take fingerprints as much as we had expected, but the cover is slightly bent out of plastic.

The chassis of the Inspiron R-series has introduced a “hinge-forward” on the last Mini 10 Netbook design. What this means is, the upper lid connects to the base about an inch in from behind. The reason for this design was the lack of battery bulge or a slight shift of the screen is closer to the keyboard, but the R-base very thick at the rear end and the rear shelf is still a kind of bulge – it just does not stick out the base.

Dell’s nearly edge-to-edge keyboard is a flat design with a slightly raised texture on the keys. It is easy to operate, and the top media keys are fortunately function as MacBooks to Apple’s vice versa – you can directly raise and lower volume without pressing the “FN” key. The touchpad below is larger, matte surface and is usually more comfortable than the previous Dell laptops that we have used. The discrete buttons below are nothing special, but are sized well and work well. Overall, the Inspiron R-keyboard-touchpad is better experience than the average.

Dell Inspiron 14R

The LED-backlit 14.1-inch glossy screen has a 1366 x 768 pixel native resolution that most laptop displays is about 13 inches and 14 inches. Video and web pages look crisp and colors were sharp and text, but pictures have a little washed out look on extended view. We were also on the volume and sound quality over the impressive stereo speakers, located under the palm rests on the bottom. The “SRS Premium Sound” label on the bottom right corner of the screen at first made us shrug, but at least the audio experience had enough oomph to promote TV shows and movies with the speakers. A dedicated software is an eye-catching touches Dell Dock on the top of the screen centered. It acts as a launcher, images, Webcam, Web browser, e-mail and movie and music playback modes, act a little like your own applications Apple’s Dock, but much less flexible and more vulnerable combines pre-installed trial version promo bloatware.

Above the screen is a 1.3-megapixel webcam for video conferencing and photographed. The camera has a decent frame rate and an OK picture quality. Videos will be shown that the microphone had good long-sensitivity, but the video and photo resolution had some graininess in our normal office lighting.

The 14R has a good number of ports and I/O connections, including HDMI, eSATA, and an internal Bluetooth antenna. But scattered because of its thick-bottomed design, the Inspiron ports around the sides and back of the laptop. One USB and VGA connection with the plug is located on the back, which could be easily used for laptops as desktop replacements, but tends to be more cumbersome for travel and casual use.

Dell includes 4GB of RAM and a 500GB hard drive in the Inspiron 14R, we reviewed the above average specifications for a mainstream laptop. With our configuration, the laptop costs came to $ 780 on Dell’s website for instant savings, plus an additional $ 40 for the color red, making it to $ 820th Inspiron laptops 14R start as low as $ 479, but you can forget about i-Series Core CPUs at this price: the entry-level models have a puny Pentium processor P6000.

Dell Inspiron 14R

Most laptops use Intel Core i3 the same CPU, so it’s no surprise that most Core i3 laptops we’ve seen have similar performance. It’s a great affordable processor that is capable of better than average Core 2 Duo Multitasking and video streaming performance. The Inspiron 14R configurations up with a Core i5 option for those who crave more speed.

Better still, this has particular Inspiron 14R configuration a dedicated graphics card in the form of an ATI Radeon HD 5670 GPU. When playing Unreal Tournament III, their videos with 72.3 frames per second at 1200 x 768 pixels or 55.9fps carried out in its 1366 x 768 pixel native resolution, both are very respectable numbers. We also tried the recently released Transformers: Cybertron War, and it playable, even if found something prone to emotion. These graphics setup is ideal for casual and mainstream users, and is more than capable in most mainstream games. Hardcore gamers, of course, should a further option. Slightly less expensive options are 14R with integrated Intel HD graphics for those who prefer to avoid playing time available for savings.

Our Dell Inspiron 14R ran for 2 hours and 58 minutes on our video playback battery drain test, with its included six-cell battery. Battery performance under three hours is usually our cut-off point for the acceptance, but we give a little consideration on this laptop the dedicated graphics card. However, it is far from that, what we would call an all-day laptop.
