For mainstream laptops, where is the Dell Inspiron is one of the most popular products on the market. Traditionally available in a variety of configurations with many optional features and a flexible pricing, the Inspiron serves as Jack of all trades between laptops, but is not a master of all in all.
The Dell Inspiron 14R is a slightly new design iteration of the regular Inspiron series, slim with some touches and colors that make it a bit more like a Studio series laptop. While these changes are largely cosmetic, the overall impression of the new Inspiron is slightly better than what came before.

Available in a variety of configurations ranging from 14 inches to 17 inches and at prices from low to slightly high-end, ready to see the landscape of Inspiron laptops R, user, cover a broad middle range. Our Inspiron 14R, a 14-inch laptop with an Intel Core i3 processor and ATI Radeon HD 5470 dedicated graphics, a good all-round machine for a mainstream user to a relatively reasonable price of $ 800. We have seen some better values from manufacturers such as Samsung, but at least, the Inspiron is not overpriced.
Like the previous Dell Inspiron, the plastic materials dominate on the Inspiron R. The outer cover and palm rest area of an internal substantially metallic brushed metal veneer, but it is just that, as they are plastic, too. The R comes in a metallic Mars Black, and for $ 40 extra, you can get in Peacock Blue, Tomato Red, and Pink Promise. The shiny material does not take fingerprints as much as we had expected, but the cover is slightly bent out of plastic.

The chassis of the Inspiron R-series has introduced a “hinge-forward” on the last Mini 10 Netbook design. What this means is, the upper lid connects to the base about an inch in from behind. The reason for this design was the lack of battery bulge or a slight shift of the screen is closer to the keyboard, but the R-base very thick at the rear end and the rear shelf is still a kind of bulge – it just does not stick out the base.
Dell’s nearly edge-to-edge keyboard is a flat design with a slightly raised texture on the keys. It is easy to operate, and the top media keys are fortunately function as MacBooks to Apple’s vice versa – you can directly raise and lower volume without pressing the “FN” key. The touchpad below is larger, matte surface and is usually more comfortable than the previous Dell laptops that we have used. The discrete buttons below are nothing special, but are sized well and work well. Overall, the Inspiron R-keyboard-touchpad is better experience than the average.

The LED-backlit 14.1-inch glossy screen has a 1366 x 768 pixel native resolution that most laptop displays is about 13 inches and 14 inches. Video and web pages look crisp and colors were sharp and text, but pictures have a little washed out look on extended view. We were also on the volume and sound quality over the impressive stereo speakers, located under the palm rests on the bottom. The “SRS Premium Sound” label on the bottom right corner of the screen at first made us shrug, but at least the audio experience had enough oomph to promote TV shows and movies with the speakers. A dedicated software is an eye-catching touches Dell Dock on the top of the screen centered. It acts as a launcher, images, Webcam, Web browser, e-mail and movie and music playback modes, act a little like your own applications Apple’s Dock, but much less flexible and more vulnerable combines pre-installed trial version promo bloatware.
Above the screen is a 1.3-megapixel webcam for video conferencing and photographed. The camera has a decent frame rate and an OK picture quality. Videos will be shown that the microphone had good long-sensitivity, but the video and photo resolution had some graininess in our normal office lighting.

The 14R has a good number of ports and I/O connections, including HDMI, eSATA, and an internal Bluetooth antenna. But scattered because of its thick-bottomed design, the Inspiron ports around the sides and back of the laptop. One USB and VGA connection with the plug is located on the back, which could be easily used for laptops as desktop replacements, but tends to be more cumbersome for travel and casual use.
Dell includes 4GB of RAM and a 500GB hard drive in the Inspiron 14R, we reviewed the above average specifications for a mainstream laptop. With our configuration, the laptop costs came to $ 780 on Dell’s website for instant savings, plus an additional $ 40 for the color red, making it to $ 820th Inspiron laptops 14R start as low as $ 479, but you can forget about i-Series Core CPUs at this price: the entry-level models have a puny Pentium processor P6000.

Most laptops use Intel Core i3 the same CPU, so it’s no surprise that most Core i3 laptops we’ve seen have similar performance. It’s a great affordable processor that is capable of better than average Core 2 Duo Multitasking and video streaming performance. The Inspiron 14R configurations up with a Core i5 option for those who crave more speed.
Better still, this has particular Inspiron 14R configuration a dedicated graphics card in the form of an ATI Radeon HD 5670 GPU. When playing Unreal Tournament III, their videos with 72.3 frames per second at 1200 x 768 pixels or 55.9fps carried out in its 1366 x 768 pixel native resolution, both are very respectable numbers. We also tried the recently released Transformers: Cybertron War, and it playable, even if found something prone to emotion. These graphics setup is ideal for casual and mainstream users, and is more than capable in most mainstream games. Hardcore gamers, of course, should a further option. Slightly less expensive options are 14R with integrated Intel HD graphics for those who prefer to avoid playing time available for savings.

Our Dell Inspiron 14R ran for 2 hours and 58 minutes on our video playback battery drain test, with its included six-cell battery. Battery performance under three hours is usually our cut-off point for the acceptance, but we give a little consideration on this laptop the dedicated graphics card. However, it is far from that, what we would call an all-day laptop.
Dell includes an industry-standard one-year parts and labor warranty with the system, which includes on-site service.
