No Regrets So Far

By David M. Wenning

This review is for: Lenovo IdeaPad U330

This is my first Lenovo laptop and my first experience with Vista. I have a lot of desktop experience, but I am not a computer wonk. I have the jump when Amazon came up with some tantalizing end pricing. First impression: a beautiful machine, built high quality and solid. It came up and ran perfectly right out of the box. First I had a lot of trouble with the touchpad and pointer buttons, but after a few days of tuning, I seem to have it work very well. So far I am tickled to death with the U330. I read a lot about the heat issues with laptops that run for a whole day, the U330 is just lukewarm.

Face recognition login function is amazing. I expected this to be a silly gimmick that would not really work. In fact, it works perfectly, it was easy to set up and it takes 2 seconds or less, to recognize me for log-ins.

My only complaint: When the cursor touches a link or a command he performs on its own to leave. This includes cuts. Oops! I do not know if this is a Vista thing or a Lenovo thing, but I wish I could find the setting to remove them. I will do some searching on the Lenovo forum.

Several people posted on this forum that their complaints U330's not sitting flat on the desktop. Instead, they swayed, because the ground was cleared. This is not the case with me. It sits perfectly flat.

Fine, I always use terrible back pain. I found myself leaning over the type. I bought a Rolodex laptop stand (82 410) and it solved the problem. It is the perfect size for the U330 and none of the blocked ports or CD drive are.

Would I recommend the U330? As of now, absolutely. I will come again when this changes.
