Lenovo ThinkPad T410 2516ADU Review
The Lenovo ThinkPad T410 2516ADU seems to be a case of “more the same” – that is not bad either. At a time in system designs as ephemeral fashion statements and laptop PCs, changing color with every season, seem to feel the Basic Black ThinkPad T410 as a series of comfortable jeans. The T-series also has the reputation of being a little expensive on the page.

In many ways, the ThinkPad T410, the Anti-MacBook Pro. At 5 pounds, weighs 10 ounces, the 14-inch set just a little more than a 15-inch MacBook, but it looks much more bulky (and this is a 9-cell battery). However, retains the feel of the legendary ThinkPad keyboard T410 – crisp, full-size keys and an excellent layout. It is easier to write on a ThinkPad than almost any other notebook.

Performance is pretty good on standard applications. The T410 posted an excellent score of 108 on our WorldBench 6 test suite. Game performance is lacking, though. Even with the discrete 3100M NVIDIA NVS graphics chip, you might want to drop DX9 mode in the current generation of games. Even then, expect to face lower levels of detail considerably. The system is close to 30 frames per second in Far Cry 2 Benchmark’s Action and Stalker: A Twist of Fate fell to below 10 fps in DX10 standard mode.
The 9-cell battery delivered excellent battery life in our tests, posting six hours, 10 minutes.

In addition to the performance of the game, another disappointment is the LCD display. While the backlight viewing angles are horrible. Moreover, that, video playback quality was sorely missed. We saw significant movement artifacts and blurring in fast action scenes in our test DVDs (Return of the King and Serenity). DVD upscaling was soft as well, though color balance was good.
Audio quality was also limited. Although we never expect deep bass with laptops, it seemed the long range to roll quite sharp, although stereo image was appropriate.

What is missing from the T410 as a consumer machine, it makes up for an office powerhouse. The Core i5 540M’s Turbo mode offers significant performance increases, if necessary. Bundled software includes Corel WinDVD and Movie Factory and trial versions of Microsoft Office. Documentation was missing something – even online docs seemed generic.
The T410 also offers excellent links, including 802.11n Wi-Fi, Gigabit Ethernet and integrated mobile broadband (but you must pick the right SIM card for your mobile broadband provider). We have some initial setup experience difficulties connecting to the D-Link wireless router. The Connection Assistant Lenovo kept setting the wrong type of encryption, we finally had to manually change to TKIP.

Display output is handled via an analog VGA connector or DisplayPort output for digital. You need the right cable adapter if you are equipped to monitor a DVI port. Three USB ports, plus the DisplayPort connectors are built in a painful-looking 2×2 cluster on left. The eSATA and FireWire ports, another USB port and optical drives are built in the right side of the chassis.
The ThinkPad T410 ThinkPad offers the classic look, feel and performance – but you must pay for the privilege. The unit tested, how would you put back $ 1,419. While we are confident that the T410, the traditional strength of the T-series would keep it, that’s still a pretty stiff price, in view of the disappointing quality of the display and only one hard drive that is min only 5400 rpm. However, some laptops as comfortable to type on the T410 and that counts for something.
