Thin, lightweight and good battery life
By Andrew (San Jose, CA)
This review is for: Acer Aspire Timeline AS5810TZ-4274
I have several laptops (work and personal use), including the hyped ThinkPad T61, T500, T400.
But the series timeline Acer laptops have really surprised me in terms of build quality, price, form factor and battery life.
If these things are you most at heart, is the timeline for you!
My T400 never passed 4h at the lowest setting CPU and LCD brightness. The timeline consistently gives me more than 5 hours (not the 8hrs +, as she claimed, though) with Windows XP.
Windows XP installation (on the default Vista Premium) was a simple task, such as Acer website provides XP drivers, so that you do not have to look everywhere. I have tried both the 15.6" and 14" version and I personally the 14" screen would for its size, although both have the same 1" thin dimension, and similar battery life. The 15.6" keyboard with a numeric keypad.
For those who complained about the increased CPU to 100% blocked at random or eject button until the laptop, I had the same problems. After I updated with the latest graphics drivers from Intel and Acer BIOS, all problems went away!
Normally I'm picky, what I use, but I have to give Acer a thumb for this great work. After all, it costs only $ 549!
Can not the same for Lenovo ThinkPad, which costs more to say, thick (>1.2), and only average battery life.
What is the point of the WLAN, if you regularly plug in your power to do? With the timeline, I really can roam most of my day, without fear of leakage power.
