Hulu is Working Under HTML5
Today, Hulu was rolling some new features for its video player allows the updates such as subtitles, ad normalize volume, Seek preview and better placement of the player includes controls. They posted an extensive blog post on the changes this morning, but for some reason took it down.
The issue has focused these two laptop reviews blogs, the “Beyond HTML5 On” Down near the bottom of the post. Here is the bulk of what they had to say:
“When it comes to technology, is our only guide to best address the needs of all our major clients: our viewers, our content partners, the programs licensed to us, our advertisers, and any others. We continue to monitor developments on HTML5 monitor but what is now there do not yet meet all the needs of our customers. Our players do not just stream video, it must also ensure the content, use for our advertising clients reporting to make the video with a high-performance codec to premium To ensure image quality, communicate back to the server to determine how long and what to stream buffer bit rate, and dozens of other things that are not necessarily visible to the consumer. Not all the video sites have this need, but for our business all important and often contractual requirements.
That’s not to say that these functions are not added to HTML5 in the future (or easier to implement). Technology is a fast-moving area and we are constantly evaluate which tools best we can to fulfill our mission as many of our customers as possible. ” We have read also about Acer as5542-1051 review.
This is no surprise to me. When I interviewed Jeff Whatcott on the Brightcove online video platform experience for HTML platform, he said that Flash will be provided not only a useful container for Internet video, but also provides the ability for users to experience a plus some tools company and enjoy advertisers.
“Elements of the typical Web video experience on Hulu and YouTube, for example, like pre-, post-and middle-video ads, ads, or notes, and video overlays for interactivity all come from the Flash player, not the video itself . or website code. Then there are the items visitors can not see how to deliver the analysis to the suppliers and the quality / bandwidth management to a continuous clip. ”

None of this is in HTML5. The only thing is with the basic HTML5 the ability to start / pause, forward, rewind, play and stop. Brightcove has all the rest of the experience for users and content providers with a combination of HTML, Javascript, CSS and build. Hulu apparently not yet found a combination of existing code / solutions, or they may work as well as Flash, so it has stuck with Adobe now.
This does not, Hulu will miss IPAD (ipad review) users view. The rumor IPAD app could still be in the works. And I will personally throw in a request for an Android version.
With the major online video content providers always on one side in this debate or the other, how do you feel about Hulu attitude? Would you rather see be able to video on your phone / tablet, no matter what or would you rather have the best experience with the devices, can bypass the Flash?
