Asus is Going To Make iPad Like Devices

Netbook pioneer Asustek Computer believes that is its popular Eee PC netbook family will continue to attract more buyers than Tablet devices such as Apple’s IPAD.

The two devices serve different markets, with better iPad better for Cloud Computing and Netbooks for personal computing, “said Jerry Shen, CEO of Asustek, during the company in the first quarter investors’ conference in Taipei on Friday.

“The Tablet PC is a cloud-computing device. If it were not for Apple to develop this market, much slower,” said Shen. Web-based applications for Tablet devices like the IPAD tend to store their data in the cloud, while netbook users tend to store their applications and data on the device, he said. He believes there is only a slight overlap in functionality between the two types of devices.

However, Asustek plans to launch its own Eee Pad Tablet PC, at Computex Taipei 2010 electronics fair, the first Runs until June 5th Asus plans a few versions of the Eee pad. “The first phase will use Microsoft software,” said Shen. ASUS Eee PC 1005PR-PU17 is the first step to their dream.

But the launch could be delayed if there is not enough enthusiasm for market-coated tablets at this time, he said. The company is working on content agreement for the Eee-pad when it starts.

Asustek’s revenue rose by 73 percent over the previous year to NT $ 80,080,000,000 (U.S. $ 2,550,000,000) in the first quarter, while net profit increased by more than ten-fold to NT $ 4940000000th

The company sold 2.5 million laptops in the first quarter and forecast shipments will rise as much as 10 percent quarter on quarter in the second quarter. Asustek also shipped 1.6 million Eee PCs, but said shipments of the popular netbooks will grow not less than 5 percent in the second quarter. So if want to buy a laptops, you know what brand to buy

The company increased its full year forecast for shipments of Eee PC laptops, and this year to 18 million by 50 percent over the previous year and better than the previous target of 16 million.

Shen said component sourcing headaches has been this year with prices of some key components rising supplies quickly and firmly in the market. Price increases in DRAM has had the greatest impact on the business while Asustek far been tight supplies of memory chips and LCD screens is a problem. Asustek plans to launch the contracts were signed for a stable supply of DRAM to ensure at set prices, instead of sourcing from the spot market, said Shen.
