Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate Review

As the name suggests, contains Windows 7 Ultimate each new extension of Home Premium and Professional, along with many additions, which only appear in this edition of the OS.

Except, not quite, because Windows 7 Ultimate, and Windows 7 Enterprise are substantially identical. If you have two Windows 7 PCs in front of you, one Ultimate and Enterprise have a run, just so you will be able to tell the difference can be seen through the introduction of the system screen where it carry information on which version you need.

The crucial difference is how you buy them. Windows 7 Ultimate is to buy for everyone, while Windows 7 Enterprise is only available for business customers, up to a qualified Microsoft signed licensing scheme.

This means that Ultimate several features that are better suited to businesses and enthusiasts. AppLocker is a good example. This limits the applications can run on a network, but since it only in connection with a server running Windows Server 2008 R2, it is unlikely that is running to find a use in the average home.

Potentially more BitLocker is used. This has enable full-disk encryption, which focuses installed in conjunction with a Trusted Platform Module in many business laptops: BitLocker, and the only way someone can get your hands on your confidential data is, by entering the correct password (or using biometric identification such as fingerprint readers). And if they remove the disk from the laptop, there is no way to access all data on the hard disk.

BitLocker made his debut in Vista, but new in Windows 7 – and again exclusive to the Ultimate Edition and Enterprise Edition – is BitLocker To Go. This enables encryption on USB sticks and other portable devices are used, while it was encrypted on the hard disk can be read by Windows XP and Vista systems (if the password is entered, of course), Windows only 7 systems in the able to write the encrypted drive.

There are other technical improvements, including Direct Access to enable seamless connectivity between mobile users and their office network. It is also possible for your operating between 35 different languages that do not change in either the Home Premium or Professional Edition possible. Support for booting from virtual disks is a further advantage Ultimate excess of its lesser brethren, and we explain how exactly this in our article on how to install Windows 7 on a virtual hard drive.

Owner of Windows Vista Ultimate is not too surprised to hear that Microsoft has the much-maligned “Ultimate Extras” fell, the supposedly bonus programs that drew such ire while Vista life.

Fortunately, the Ultimate Edition of Windows 7 is also emerging in other areas: the inclusion of each new feature and enhancement of the other versions of Windows 7 in addition to a variety of technical improvements that will please enthusiasts, tweakers and IT managers who are not on Microsoft’s licensing director. However, if you have the best version of Windows 7, and have it now, then you will not be disappointed with Windows 7 Ultimate.

Lenovo IdeaPad S10-3 Review

Lenovo sells everything, including the third generation, 10.1-inch Lenovo IdeaPad S10-3 Netbook appears to the board or meeting room – will be determined in this case, perhaps presented in the meeting room in Terry Gilliam Film Brazil (top or lid of the device has a slightly psychedelic red checkerboard pattern) – but a meeting yet.

The 2.76-pound business-oriented S10-3 per spec netbook a bit more expensive than the competition. Most of the other 10.1-inch, 1024 x 600 resolution netbooks for $ 10 to $ 50 less for sale with the same 1GB Intel N450 3150 CPU GPU combination, and a more spacious 250-GB hard drive, compared with the S10-3 150GB model. While 150GB is more than enough for most users, this means that you are getting a bit less on the fundamentals and pay a bit extra for the business functions and software.

Or is it the ergonomics for which you are paying? Who is responsible for Lenovo Input deserves a raise and or high praise. The combination of innovative multi-touch touch pad rocker button on the S10-3 is a relief for everyone (including this writer) who hates accidentally while dragging or tapping on the hunt for buttons. Just a little pressure on the bottom apply to the left or right corners of the device, and you have your click.

Another time honored Lenovo strength is the keyboard, and the IdeaPad S10-3 does not disappoint in this area either. The typing feel is so good, like you find on a Netbook, and there is no scrunched or misplaced keys la Asus and Fujitsu. This netbook feels less like a Netbook than any other 10.1-inch model that I have ever tried.

Lenovo also bundles some interesting software with the IdeaPad S10-3. Most of it, such as face recognition VeriFace security is based entirely on business users. Lock the system with a password and you will VeriFace register by scanning your cup with the webcam. It works quite well, and you see your eyes sparkle while creating on-screen VeriFace your profile … I do not care who you are, what fun it right. But alas, logging in this way gets tiring after a while and is much slower than simply typing in your password.

Other items are Direct Share, which files and folders are synchronized across the network, and OneKey Recovery, the images of your hard drive for disaster recovery – relatively boring, but useful utilities, although the latter program duplicate Windows functionality. Unfortunately, you do not even have Microsoft Works, with basic office work carried out. Lenovo probably feel the intended audience is policy to its own productivity suite, or activate the included 60-day trial version of Office 2007.

The rest of the S10-3 specs are netbook standard. You get three USB ports: one on the left side to the VGA port and SD slot and two on the right with the Ethernet and audio input and output. The AC connection is on the left side, along with a wireless switch. The hard drive, memory and free miniPCI-Express slot can be easily accessible with a single removable panel on the underside of the machine. Not only that, but the screws are in captivity – so if you try to roll out a fleet of these puppies and want to update it, you do not need to fly very small screws to worry about the pitch. Nice touch.

The Lenovo IdeaPad S10-3 ran for 8 hours, 27 minutes in our battery tests, but his performance was boring to say the least. The score of 31 on WorldBench 6 is subpar for a Netbook, and the general feel of the Windows 7 operating system is rather slow starter. Part of the problem is that Lenovo has a habit of piling on background processes with software that not much more than double existing Windows features. The ReadyComm 5 Networking Utility is an example. A few minutes with msconfig.exe and uninstalling unnecessary apps perked the machine a lot.

YOU CAN PRE-ORDER LENOVO S10-3 NOW FOR ONLY $349.99!

Unfortunately, this tune did not help that much video performance: 720 HD-Video, one of my standard hands-on tests, played smoothly only when the very efficient Quicktime MP4 codec transcoding. Was a complete failure and WMV MP4 other implementations always stuttered or blocked. On the other side, audio from the speakers sounded better than on most netbooks.

Even if it is more expensive, slightly less well educated, and more slowly out of the box as much of its competition, the S10-3 more than the sum of its parts. Type and with a point before doing anything else, to save only $ 50 resort.

Toshiba Satellite L505-GS5035 Review

Toshiba is a good thing to make us even better with the next generation of its Satellite L505 notebook budget by packing a new Intel Core i3 processors inside. This has the advantage of upping power without compromising the L505 Low-cost roots. Priced at $ 699, the notebook is still a good choice for consumers looking for a system that can handle multimedia well, but now users can use far better performance with no interruption of the bank count. We wish the screen were brighter, and that Toshiba includes an HDMI interface, but overall the L505 is a heck of a bargain.

For a budget system, the Satellite L505 is attractive. The lid and the keyboard deck sports Toshiba Fusion finish Midnight Breeze. This tendency to gloss attracts fingerprint spots in a hurry, but the faint taupe lines across the deck lid and hide it a bit. Unlike the previous model, the keyboard is glossy instead of matt.

15.1 x 10.2 x 1.6 inches and an even 6.0 pounds, the Satellite L505 is not exactly travel-friendly, but it is a reasonable size and weight for a 15.6-inch system.

Above the keyboard is the power button, plus four physical media playback buttons: Play pause, rewind, fast forward, and mute. There are no volume buttons, Toshiba continues to be a old-school-band-wheel, which in this case to use on the front edge of the L505. The more expensive Satellite A505 has touch-sensitive media and volume controls.

Performance

Toshiba, the L500 series for Intel’s new Core contain i3-330M processor. Although it lacks the Turbo Boost technology reserved for Core and Core i7-i5 notebooks, the L505 showed good performance in our tests.

helpful addition to the 2:13-GHz CPU, system RAM and 4 GB 5400 rpm hard one value of 4918 to provide PCMark Vantage, about 1,000 brands above the average for the category 3631st The L505 is the score hardly Gateway NV7915u (4907), another i3 Core Notebook, squeaked, and was twice as high as the previous generation L505 (2791). Compared to a Core 2 Duo system such as the ASUS K50, the L505 handy outperforms its guests of 3100.

You should have no problem with the L505 for daily tasks. We surfed the Internet, play music streaming via Last.fm, flash games, and wrote this review in Microsoft Word simultaneously without hiccups.

The L505 is 5400 rpm, 320 GB hard drive not be lost predecessor transferred to the laptop test (4.97GB Duplicating Mixed Media files). The last generation L505 completed this task with a rate of 23.6 MBps, while the present system achieved only 20.9 Mbps. This speed is only slightly above the average for the category, but it lags behind the gateway NV7915u (24.2 Mbps) and ASUS K50 (25.2 MBps). The L505 in Windows 7 Home Premium boot in 61 seconds, only 1 second slower than the average.

If we used the L505, a 114MB, 5-minute and 5-second video transcode with Oxelon Media Converter, it took 1 minute and 12 seconds. Although this is only 5 seconds longer than the Gateway NV7915u (1:07), it is still 20 seconds slower than the average.

Verdict

The Toshiba Satellite L505-GS5035 should work for most users’ needs, and at $ 699, it provides a good balance between performance and price. For $ 50 less you could for more space on the screen with the same powerful 17-inch Gateway NV7915u who choose a better webcam and an HDMI port. If you want to hold on to a 15.6-inch display, but the L505 offers good value and a wealth of configuration options.

Toshiba Satellite L505D-ES5025 Review

The entry-level Toshiba Satellite L505D-ES5025 evolved from its predecessor, the Satellite L505D-S5996 by another 1 GB of RAM, the party, stepping up the AMD Turion CPU II and associated integrated ATI graphics chip with a notch ( albeit for an additional $ 250). It packages that are bulky, but these parts in the same housing. The Satellite L505D-ES5025 performance and battery life is marginally better than the previous model, but that does not say much. The system of weak audio does not do it any favors, nor his weak keyboard. There are better entry-level options, such as the Acer Aspire AS5740-6378, which has an i5 Core CPU for only $ 10 more, and the Dell Inspiron i1545-4583JBK, better build quality and battery life features.

Design

The Satellite line has never stood out for its design and the L505D-ES5025 does not alter this fact. It uses a silver plastic chassis, horizontal pinstripes with rolling over them. The laptop measures 10.2 by 15.1 by 1.5 inches (HWD). It is about a half inch deeper than the Dell Inspiron 1545 and a few grams heavier, with a weight of 6.0 pounds. Toshiba manages to press in a separate numeric keypad on the right side of the keyboard, but I’m not sure how useful, if you do not spend the majority of your day typing in numbers, is in Excel. The keyboard does not provide the best feel to travel with a lot. The buttons sit higher out of the chassis, when we want to bridge the gap between the keys and the edge of the keyboard deck looks like a magnet for dust and dirt.

On the positive side, the touchpad has a matt finish and a responsive feel. We also like the large mouse buttons, which provide a good trip and none of the loud clacking sound you get from many low-end laptops.

BUY TOSHIBA SATELLITE L505D-ES5025 NOW AT A REDUCED PRICE!

The 15.6-inch display offers a native resolution of 1,366 x 768, the standard for greatness. The screen is bright with good viewing angle. The widescreen display (16:9 aspect ratio) is convenient when working with documents side by side in Windows 7 Home Premium, and it is also good movies. What does not help the film experience is brutally poor audio system. At the maximum volume, shine, the two integrated stereo speakers sound tinny like that one little way of knowing if they are sitting directly in front of the film dialogue laptop.

Features

The Satellite L505D-ES5025 ports and connectors are of the most part, run of the mill. One of the three USB 2.0 ports, eSATA port double as convenient for those for the fast transfer of data to an external drive. Ethernet and modem ports enable the wired networking options, while 802.11n Wi-Fi wireless connectivity is concerned. Some entry-level laptops, including the Dell Inspiron 1545, only feature 802.11b/g standard. On the front you will find an always appreciated volume control and a card reader.

Performance

Toshiba Satellite L505D The ES5025 features of the 2.3 GHz AMD Turion II M520 CPU, 4 GB of RAM, a 320GB hard drive and integrated ATI Radeon HD 4200 graphics card. The AMD-based configuration provides a slight edge in performance over similarly priced laptops that have Intel Pentium Dual Core T4400 processor. For example, the Satellite L505D 7 percent was faster faster than the Dell Inspiron 1545 and 19 percent as the HP G60-630us, two low-end notebooks, that have the Pentium T4400 chip, in PCMark Vantage, an examination of the measures overall performance of a laptop. Image processing was a mixed bag, with Toshiba before finishing the above Dell and HP in Cinebench R10, but behind the two on our Photoshop CS4 benchmark test.

The laptop uses a standard 6-cell battery (44Whr) and ran for 31 minutes longer than its predecessor on MobileMark 2007, but its battery life is still bleak, lasting only 2 hours 41 minutes on the bench. You can about an hour more from other laptops that expect a 6-cell battery feature.

The bad battery life Dooms Satellite L505D-the ES5025, but it would be difficult to offer it to other entry-level laptop, the superior performance (Acer Aspire AS5740-6378 recommended) or better design (Dell Inspiron 1545-4583JBK).
