1.5GHz Speed Dual-Core Intel Atom For Netbooks Coming 2Q

A dual-core version of the Intel Atom processor for netbooks in the second quarter will be launched this year, “said Intel CEO Paul Otellini call during the recent gains.

Intel is expected to be the 1.83 GHz single-core Atom N475 CPU release this year, according to Fudzilla. It has the same clock rate as the TDP and N470, but it will support DDR3 memory of the N470 DDR2 insted.

Since Intel already has a dual-core Atom for small desktops, Nettops called, is probably Otellini reference to a dual-core design for the netbook device and small market. Currently, Intel only offers single-core Atom processors for Asus netbooks.
“The next innovation is coming out on Atom Dual-Core, which comes out in the second quarter,” Otellini said during the earnings call last week.
“I still think it will turn to a significant growth in fiscal Netbook-over-year. Features and integration (silicon) the technical buttons are here,” he said.
Going dual-core Atom processor could benefit in a big way. The tiny chips far behind Intel processors in mainstream performance. Although most of this is to chip design context – it is designed to be economical would undoubtedly be to increase performance for critical operations such as multi-tasking with power consumption, not high performance – a dual-core design for netbooks.
