Asus UL20A Laptop Review

The Asus UL20A is the smallest and cheapest member of the new Asus UL family. Like its big brother, has the Asus UL30A the UL20A one chiclet keyboard Winodws 7 Home Premium and an Intel Core 2 Duo SU7300 CULV Processor. But the laptop has a smaller 12.1-inch display, 2GB of RAM and a 250GB hard drive.
The UL20A is a little bit bigger than the Acer Aspire 1410, which has a 11.6-inch screen. But the difference is hardly noticeable.

Due to the smaller screen size, the UL20A also has a smaller keyboard than the Asus UL30A touchpad. The keyboard is still quite large and easy to use, but I think that Asus should be about dropping out of the special Home, End, Page Up and Page Down keys on the right side of the keyboard to make a little more room for the rest have thought the keys.
The touchpad supports multi-touch gestures such as pinching to zoom. But for some reason does not support two-finger scrolling out of the box. Instead, you can scroll through your finger up and down the right side of the touchpad, or left and right at the bottom. Like the Asus Eee PC 1005HA supports the touchpad “ChiralMotion,” which lets you continuously twhirling navigate with your finger. I tried to watch the download and installation of the Asus UL30A touchpad driver to see if it has two-finger scrolling support, but it does not work. I kind of did not realize how much I would miss this feature until I tried using a laptop that looks and feels so much like the UL30A missing but the two-finger scrolling.

In relation to the size of the laptop is nearly perfect. It is not much bigger than a 10-inch netbook, but the 12.1-inch display is large enough that I do not squint to read the text on the 1366 x 768 pixel screen. The processor and graphics are identical to the Asus UL30A is, so that performance should be pretty good for the playback of HD video or performance CPU-intensive tasks such as audio or video transcoding. But this is UL20A ship with less RAM than the larger model, so that may affect performance to some degree.
