HP Mini 311 esteemed in Europe

HP Mini 311 esteemed in Europe

HP has not officially announced, the HP Mini 311 at. But a flood of information about the upcoming 11.6 inches notebook with NVIDIA graphics ION has been spilled over the last few days. And now it looks like a pre-production model makes the rounds. Netbook News.it has posted some hands-on photos and a little information about the performance of the laptop.

The notebook has a 11.6 inches, 1366 x 768 pixel display, 1GB of RAM and a 160 GB hard drive. It sports a 1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 CPU and NVIDIA GPU-ION, which means they should be capable of 1080p HD video from the hard drive handle, although it is likely with high-quality Flash video battle, as the Adobe Flash is based on the CPU not the GPU.

After News.it Netbook, the HP Mini 311 (or more properly, the Compaq Mini 311c, is named as the European model), significantly better than the Samsung N510 in 3dMark2006 benchmarks. This could be because the HP has more laptop dedicated video memory, but since it is a pre-production unit I, all test results with a grain of salt or two.

OLPC XO Laptop 1.5 with VIA processor

OLPC XO Laptop 1.5 with VIA processor

It’s been a few months because I have heard nothing about renewing the OLPC XO laptop 1.5. but it looks like the new model is close enough to reality to have a working prototype in circulation. The folks at the OLPC Learning Club in DC was a little hands-on time with a prototype of XO 1.5 last night.

The new model replaces the 433MHz AMD Geode CPU in the original XO laptop with a 1-GHz with a variable speed VIA C7-M processor. The video shows a comparison between the new model and an overclocked XO 1 with the AMD processor running at 500MHz.

Both models are pretty quick, given the slow speed of the processors. But the VIA C7-M upgrade provides a new model in any case an advantage. As you can see in the picture above, there are no major cosmetic differences between the original XO and the new version. We have to wait for the XO 2.0, a visual refresh to get big.

Shuttle launches Atom powered all-in-one desktop with OpenSUSE Linux

Compact computer maker Shuttle has been offering Linux desktops for a while, and barebone systems with no operating system at all. Perhaps it should come as no surprise that the company is the latest all-in-one desktop with Linux. But I’m always surprised a little.

The shuttle X500V is a dual-core 1.6GHz Intel Atom 330 CPU, 1 GB of RAM and a 160 GB hard drive – all the information you expect the delivery of a computer with Windows XP. But instead, it runs OpenSUSE 11.1 Linux.

The computer measures about 15.4 “12,9″ x 1.4″ and features a 15.6 inch, 1366 x 768 pixel touchscreen display, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, Ethernet, VGA output (for a second monitor, I suppose), and 5 USB ports. It is not in the United States.

Stash your laptop in a stylish newspaper sleeve

Stash your laptop in a stylish newspaper sleeve

We are big fans of laptop bags that looked like nothing of the sort, but the laptop sleeve from Mitemite takes the idea a step further.

Made of the plasticised material, the sleeve is designed to look like a folder broadsheet newspaper, and five “have issues” from around the world available to general – Le Pais, La Vanguardia, The Herald Tribune, La Gretezza Dello Sport and Frankfurt.

The sleeve measures 377 x 275 x 34mm and is intended for use, an Apple MacBook Pro, but there is no reason why he will not be used, similarly sized laptops.

Apple MacBook Air owners have a similar option, the newspaper sleeve available from Italia Craft. The case is to minimize wool-free cloth to (the risk from static electricity) and is similar to an anonymous vintage newspaper.
