iiView Showcases A2 Netbook

On the Windows-7 press event today, we have a little surprise. iiView, a Singapore-based provider, presented a sexy Netbook with a generous 12.1-inch display.

Cyril Alonzo, Chief Executive Officer of iiView, said that instead of just another Netbook to the already saturated market, it will become a desirable product. A page from the Apple MacBook Air, the iiView A2 is a sleek Atom-based mini-laptop. In fact, the design is so similar that even the monitor and USB port is hidden inside a flap on the side.

Specifications are:

  • Atom 1.6GHz processor
  • 2GB RAM
  • Intel 945 chipset
  • 12.1-inch 1,280 x 800-pixel resolution
  • 320GB HDD
  • Two USB ports, mini-HDMI port, 2-in-1 headphone/mic jack
  • 802.11b/g, 10/100 Ethernet
  • Six-cell battery
  • Windows 7 RC1 with Vista Home Premium license

Interestingly enough, this Netbook comes preinstalled with Windows 7 RC1. Cyril said the reason is that Vista is not a sufficient practical experience on a Netbook. Fortunately, because the machine comes with a Vista Home Premium license is required for the free upgrade to Windows 7 Home Premium if it starts on 22 October. The iiView A2 will be in Singapore next week. We have a review unit on hand, so look for a complete overview of this sexy machine soon.
