Dell Mini 10 netbook limited to 1GB of RAM

Dell Mini 10 netbook limited to 1GB of RAMAfter the Direct2Dell blog, Dell mini 10 “packs a punch,” but that is not in relation to the maximum allowed RAM. It turns out that the Mini 10 will be “fixed 1GB of RAM, which means that you can not decide to make it at a later date. The reason for the 1 GB on shipping through the Netbook licensing requirements that they are with Microsoft. This is understandable, but they are not required to determine the RAM.

Admittedly, Windows XP or Ubuntu for this question is (in most cases) well with 1 GB of RAM, but why limit you if you do not, especially if a RAM upgrade is so cheap nowadays. I upgrade my Eee PC 1000h with 2 GB of RAM for under $ 30. Personally, if you have a 10-inch Netbook, which is basically a large reason for the mini 10 and look to another manufacturer like Asus or Acer.

Nokia Sparrow multi-core computer running Linux

Nokia Sparrow multi-core computer running Linux

ARM’s Multi-Core Chip Sparrow was announced just last week, and Nokia is already working on the first compact mobile computer with a few blow-out data, Linux OS on this CPU. But not your hopes – this Nokia device is planned for 2011 release.
Eldar has to play with the first prototypes and is mighty interesting.

The design of the Nokia device Sparrow Netbook not the current trend of more half-way, with some resemblance to Nokia N800 Internet Tablet.

It will have multi-slide keyboard, with various layouts key shows you how to push them in different directions. The display pages in different directions for different functions – think Nokia N97 Tilt display.

The new Nokia-based computer has a very interesting keyboard with diamond-shaped, raised buttons inverted to each other. At first glance, it seems very uncomfortable – the buttons are quite small (about half as large as normal key), the device itself actually is quite small. But if you start thinking about it, it works very well. It is very difficult to meet several key with a finger, even on purpose.

The Nokia Sparrow computer has a novel, transparent widget-based interface. Each application gets its own semi-transparent widget to view its contents in. Several applications can be stored in memory “for months”. For example, when writing a document or e-mail, only with Swipe your finger across the screen and semi-transparent panels with active or pre-set applications and content pop-up. Select one and you can use it at once.

Well, it is now. I asked our Ilinca to some of the musings before. What with all the things in the translation is lost, and not really very exhaustive description of visual Eldar, I am sure it is quite far from reality

Gigabyte’s M1022, S1024, T1028 netbooks

Gigabyte's M1022, S1024, T1028 netbooks

Gigabyte said it would show a trio of new netbooks at CeBIT this week, and all three are now out of their less than secretive whereabouts and their public debut.

While all three pack of more or less the same standard Netbook information, they differ somewhat from each other at the edges, with the M1022 “Booktop” particularly coming together with a fairly unique in that dock keeps the system vertically and you can monitor connector and your choice of peripherals.

The T1028 also things a step further by providing a tablet form, as you can see above, while the ThinNote s1024 keeps things a bit more simple with a thin, more business-design.

Medion S1211 ‘Hello Kitty’ Netbook

Medion

Medion is the latest manufacturer to another device to the ever-growing Netbook market with the release of their mini-S1211 laptop. With a design with the Japanese cartoon character Hello Kitty, it is a popular choice with children of all ages.

Available in a choice of white or black, the case weighs 1.2 kilograms, with a design and dimensions to most existing Netbook on the market. Powered by Windows XP Home Edition software, there is currently no option to create a Linux-based operating system.

Components are standard Netbook fare, with a 1.6 GHz Intel Atom N70 processor, 1024MB of DDR2 memory and an integrated Intel GMA 950 graphics card. A large 160GB hard drive and a 3-in-1 flash memory card storage also impressive.

Unusually for a Netbook, High-Speed 802.11n Wi-Fi connectivity is. Equally unusual is the comprehensive software package, the Corel WordPerfect Office X3 and Bull Guard Internet Security. CyberLink PowerDVD is also, although Medion has no integrated optical drive.

ASUS T91: The Netbook-like Tablet PC

ASUS T91: The Netbook-like Tablet PC

Like the Eee PC 900-series, the T91 with a 8.9-inch display with a resolution of 1024 600 resolution, the screen is a resistive touch screen, similar to the original UMPCs.

Bit-tech do not care for the non-replaceable battery, even though ASUS expects five hours battery life with the Z520 Silverthorne Atom platform from Intel. I am in agreement with them, and also with the commantary to the T91 keyboard. For the prototype, ASUS, with its older-style keyboard and should layout. That before publication as ASUS plans to use the keyboard Chiclete on their new model 1000HE.

ASUS uses a 32GB SSD drive for the T91 and if that is not enough, you have a good option. The T91 offers a special “disk-expander” Memory card slot. Simply pop in a card to store the permanent storage, bit-tech, although no details, I assume this feature is similar to the original Acer Aspire One offers.

Perhaps the best news of all this is the expected price. After bit-tech, the T91 sit between 1000HE and S101. Although you can not just compare spec to spec, which is amazing when you think about a close cousin, the Fujitsu P16 0-series of tablet PCs are the same size, but for three to four times more.

Toshiba Satellite P305D S8900

Toshiba Satellite P305D S8900

We love nothing more than a budget notebook that does not look or feel like one. The Toshiba Satellite P305D S8900 has an elegant design, a sharp 17-inch display, and a good sound quality. The excessive height of the demo version and short battery life could be a few people, but budget-conscious buyer looking for a multimedia-centric desktop replacement will not be disappointed.

As with other Satellite notebooks, including the A305 and M305D, P305D has the Toshiba Fusion Finish. In a word, it is smooth. Inside and outside, it has a glossy black finish with a gold-striped pattern on. Even the touchpad is fine stripes (albeit in a black-on-black color scheme)
