Toshiba yesterday announced the addition of a 128 GB Solid State Drive (SSD) into the Portege R500 ultra-portable 12.1-inch laptop.

oshiba s 2 4 pound Portege R500-S5007V is the world s lightest notebook with a 128 GB SSD and DVD Super Multi drive and one of the world s thinnest with a SSD and DVD Super Multi drive, Press release says.

Together with the 128 GB Serial ATA SSD and DVD burner, Toshiba Portege R500-S5007V functions Intel s Core 2 Duo U7700 Ultra Low Voltage to 1.33 GHz processor, 2 GB of RAM, Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950 , a wireless module supporting 802.11n standard, Gigabit Ethernet port and Bluetooth. Laptop s 12.1a display has a resolution of 1280-by-800 pixels and LED backlighting.

According to Toshiba, the R500-S5007V has a battery life of ore than eight hours .

The notebook runs Windows Vista operating system.
