Sony announces P Series Lifestyle PC, world’s lightest 8-inch notebook

Sony just the latest addition to notebook line-up – the 8-inch P-series VAIO lifestyle PC. The laptop has wireless WAN 3G Mobile Broadband (Verizon), 802.11n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, 1600 x 768 resolution, and an 8 hours battery life.
The Vaio P-series will also be Windows Vista and an additional “Instant start-mode” for accessing media such as videos and music. The instant start-mode offers the Sony Xross Media Bar interface interface, which Sony have so many fans, because it is like the PS3 and PSP menus. The device comes in garnet red, emerald green, black onyx, white crystal and classic black, will be available from tomorrow.

LAS VEGAS (CES Booth # 14200), Jan. 7, 2009 – Sony announced today the packages from the world’s lightest 8-inch notebooks to the new VAIO P Series lifestyle PC.
About the size of a business envelope and about as thin as a mobile phone, the VAIO lifestyle PC weighs only 1.4 kg and is small enough to slip in a pocket or purse, while the full integration of PC functions.
The model includes a high resolution, 1600 x 768, LED-backlit 8-inch Ultra-Wide Display (diagonal), making it easy to everything from tables on the entire Web pages, no side-to-side Scrolling necessary. It also includes Sony‘s XBRITE-ECO LCD technology, producing images in brilliant detail for razor-sharp display On-The-Go.
Stylish enough to everywhere, the device is in a series of eye-catching colors, including garnet red, emerald green, black onyx, white and classic black crystal. Matching bags and Bluetooth color-coordinated mice available to the look.
“The P-Series lifestyle VAIO PC is your portal to the world, providing entertainment and computing in a head-turning device that is small enough to be in the bag,” said Mike Abary, Senior Vice President of Product Marketing VAIO at Sony Electronics. “Designed for the fashionista in all of us, it is the ideal companion.”
Designed to create the illusion of a larger notebook, the VAIO Lifestyle PC offers a comfortable typing experience by extending the keyboard to the outer limits of the chassis number maximize the input area. The spacing between the keys was also developed to help typos, which is ideal for long fingernails.
The notebook includes built-in wireless WAN 3G mobile broadband, 802.11n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth technologies. Users can switch between different wireless options for the most efficient connection – Wi-Fi to work in a coffee shop, Bluetooth for peripherals and mobile broadband service on the Verizon Wireless nationwide network, if you are outside the reach of hotspots (subscription required).
The device has up to four hours of battery life using the supplied standard battery capacity and eight hours with the large capacity battery pack (sold separately).
It also includes real-time GPS functionality, making it easy to find restaurants, hotels and special attractions. Destinations can be found simply by entering an address or keyword and then after the turn-by-turn directions. The Lifestyle PC even estimated travel times, so you know how far you are from a target. No Internet connection is required in the United States or Canada.
The device also has an instant-mode option to start directly into Sony Xross Media Bar interface, so you can start quickly and have access to music, videos, photos and the Internet. A built-in webcam lets you video chat with family, friends and colleagues. A third-party service is required.
The PC comes with the Windows Vista operating system, Office applications and supports all software programs routinely in full-size notebooks. A Windows utility agreement was an easy way to organize all open documents or Web pages with one touch, positioning them neatly side by side on a single screen.
The P-Series VAIO Lifestyle PC is available for pre-orders tomorrow online at www.sony.com PR pSeries. There will also be sold at Sony Style stores later this month and at other major retailers across the country starting in February.
